It’s weird how a game will sit in stock for a good while, being discounted every month but once it’s finally sold out, it’s considered valuable and then people will buy it. Blue Reflection on PS4 is a perfect example of a $45 game for over a year to $180+ in a few months
I think a lot of that has to do with this current collecting mentality of "I want it because it's rare!" I see so many people who aren't interested at all in a game until it's suddenly rare or hard to get, and this mindset really has gotten worse over the years. People were hyping up the Bayonetta 1 switch physical cart as this uber rare object and everybody should buy it, but it just sits in stock on Amazon now readily available to buy. And no one even cares or talks about it.
i got the second game second light in its wrapping still, cost me £20 and i might keep it that was. Koei Temco games never lose value, well at least the Atelier type games anyway lol
I’m glad that you still collect for Xbox and not just strictly PlayStation even though that’s what your channel is. You don’t throw shade and you’re always fair and that’s why I’ve loved your channel and content the past 2 years I’ve been watching. Don’t matter if someone decides to play on Xbox or PlayStation, as long as we’re playing and enjoying games that’s all that matters.
The Getaway is an amazing game. So much nostalgia and awe from when i was a kid. Cruising around London in an is200 is one of my favourite gaming past-times. No map and the directions given by the car’s indicators. Being a brit, games set in the UK can have my bias.
Last time when I was in North Carolina, I went to Gamers Alley and they had tons of retro games, including Xbox, Wii, PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP/Vita and many other system games with lots of rare games there. It was like a retro paradise for me who grew up on all the Playstation consoles since the PS1 and PS2.
Yeah it's always the cardboard box cases for these old games that go up the most, because they have a notorious track record of being lost/destroyed during their usage, however once plastic cases started to be introduced everything changed for the better, Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness complete with case and Manual and Inserts is more cheap than buying a pristine copy of Pokemon Emerald in box, that's for sure.
I bought the original copy of Medievil and Medivil II like new back in 2019 from eBay. Psychonauts II is one that I been thinking about getting a psychical copy of. That was a great deal for that game! I really enjoy seeing these videos of the new games you scored Ryan. The feeling is mutual collecting classic games and magazines. You deserved all the treasures you got your hands on doing the great job you do with your videos. What's cool is you do videos and share what you score from the work you do doing these videos. It only makes sense for the channel and takes many down a trip down memory lane right along with you seeing these classics.
That Emerald copy is beautiful! I will NEVER own that so I have to enjoy it vicariously through you. Congrats on the great additions to the collection, dude!
Always got love for the people that keeps physical media alive. I can’t splurge over $1,000 like that, but knowing that those games are in good hands puts me at ease.
I love watching people collect games and preserve them. I have a sort of related story. I found these two copies of Mario and Luigi partners in time and yoshi's island DS sealed at nearby anime convention and before that I'd seen a bunch of game collection videos probably even yours at some point. Obviously brought those two home. Thanks for being an inspiration to me as a collector and a gamer!
8:35 Seeing modern Pokémon Emerald prices always reminds me of how grateful and lucky I was to get a boxed copy for £30 like 4-5 years back. The box isn't perfect, it has some small scratches here and there but obviously for the price, it's nothing to complain about. So happy that for all the GBA Pokémon games it's the one I managed to get boxed again, since I lost the box of my original copy. That being said, I did also manage to get a Japanese boxed Ruby and Sapphire for £30 last year, which again was stupid lucky.
Love these videos Ryan. Obviously with the cost you can't do these more frequently but it's always enjoyable to see what you're up to in the collecting space. A bit of fresh air where your other content is almost exclusively news.
Danganronpa and Gravity Rush are two of the Vita's best games. It's a real shame that the system didn't fare better. I think it's the system that deserved a bigger user base the most after only the Dreamcast.
You can blame Sony for that, they set the vita up for failure out of the gate. They dropped support for it way too quickly, they insisted on proprietary memory sticks, etc.
I also went to my first retro game convention this year and I can definitely relate to the money part. Whatever amount you take with you is how much you're gonna spend there because they have just so much cool stuff. Thankfully I "only" took around 100-150 bucks myself, lol.
Storytime: Last year I went home to catch up with my parents for the first time after covid lockdowns. I'm sitting with Mum and she goes "Do you wanna take your leftover games with you?" This confused me as I already had all of my games from growing up at home, but I said "Sure". I kid you not, Mum brings out CIB Firered, Leafgreen, AND Emerald. I had the carts of course, but all those years ago she had the foresight to unpack all the manuals, posters, inserts, boxes etc and flat pack them until I was old enough to appreciate their true value (monetarily and sentimentally) I took them home and reconstructed them CIB with the carts and displayed them front and center of my collection. It was a wonderful afternoon that I hold dear. It almost felt like getting a new game as a kid, reading the manuals over and over again in the car until you were home to play it. Love you, Mum
This was wonderful. These videos are amazing to see so many classic games spanning different genres and consoles always is fun to see. Thanks for sharing such great pickups. Cool video. ^_^
Just beat Ghost Trick an hour ago on switch and when I continued watching this video just now where I left off that was the first game you opened. Really recommend it! You’ll definitely love it I bet!
That's been my go-to trick for conventions and why I go to them at least once a year; to pickup common games. The shipping adds up buying them online, and sometimes you can get an even better deal if you pickup a handful from the same vendor. I still pickup a few big hitters, more expensive games; or at least I'm on the lookout for them-- but it's not the reason.
I watch your videos every time they come across my feed. I finally became a subscriber because of those 🔥 pants! I got a real kick out of your unironic enthusiasm. Stay real, Mystic!
Can really see how ecstatic you are about the Emerald pickup Ryan, so happy you finally got it bro! Thankful to still have my original copy; surprisingly my parents kept it around. I live in Brooklyn, NY, but I think next year I’m going to try to make it out to Too Many and pick up some CIB Advance games. Would be awesome to chat with you then!
8:29 That's crazy I remember walking into blockbuster when it was new and seeing it all over the shelves. Never cared about it since I already played sapphire.
Recently I got a complete DS Lite, DSi, Wii, a loose PS2. Many childhood games for the DS and PS2 also I completed many loose games I had. It was quite expensive for me but I am so happy. These were my childhood and just to hold them again feels so special.
I really enjoyed this video. You inspired me because I have fireRed game box manual. So I went on eBay and bought the poster , insert for the box and gba wireless adapter to complete my copy. Now I need an acrylic case
Pokémon GB/GBA games are the only games in my collection that are repros. Of course I’d love a genuine copy, but I am also glad I can let my kids play them without worrying too much 😅
The only Pokémon game I have is FireRed for GBA. It’s official but my dog got it and it’s in really rough shape but it still works. I’m glad I can play it without worrying about bringing down the price. Also I really want to get some repros of some Pokémon games because I would love to play some original GB Pokémon without paying a jillion dollars
Honestly, repros aren't too bad as long as people aren't trying to pass them off as genuine. Repros are especially good for as you said young kids. They can experience older games without worrying about prices and you don't have to worry about them losing or ruining an original copy since repros are cheap, lol.
Repros are fine, especially if you aren't interested in trading or battling as some have weird compatibility issues. But if you're just wanting to replay the classic games, yeah buy the $15 repro of FireRed instead of the $100 OEM cart. I have repros of the GBA Fire Emblem games because I just wanted to play them on original hardware, and they both worked great and I had a blast beating them for the first time.
I don’t know what it is exactly, but I’m DIGGING Ryan’s energy in this video. I have ADHD and sometimes zone out, but I was fixated the whole time haha.
I recently went to my parents house, a place I haven't lived at in over a decade now, and finally started going through all my stuff there (I know, bad on me). Found in the back corner of my closet all the boxes and cases for my Pokemon games (Gen 3-Gen 7, unfortunately not all of them). I was beyond ecstatic. Unfortunately, younger me didn't feel the internal cardboard piece that held the game in place was worth keeping, but the boxes are pristine and they have all the manuals, posters and what not in the box. Real shame about the one singular piece I got rid of. But they do look good on my shelf now.
Looking at the money spent… I’m super glad PS+ extra/premium exist. Sure I don’t “own” stuff… but it’s stuff I wouldn’t have been able to play regardless! As of now I’m very much positive on my money spent on subscription.
As someone who also is on a looooong journey to complete the mainline Pokémon series, it really sucks that one of my favorite series also ended up being one of the most expensive to collect for nowadays. And they aren’t even rare games, they all sold incredibly well!
I have a feeling a huge reason game boy stuff in general is so expensive is because there's so many loose carts, and not a lot of the actual boxes around. I know I threw mine out when I was a kid. about 15 years ago, I re bought all mainline Pokemon GB games and they were 1/5 of the price as they are now. It's insane. I know some DS games are getting exxy as well but I doubt they'd ever reach as high just because the cases are less disposable
@@JimsGameRoom I also threw out all my GB/GBA boxes as a kid, they were cardboard you didn’t need them. Now, I’m kicking myself for getting rid of good copies of Fire Red and Emerald
Pokemon games sold incredibly well, the attrition rate on them was incredibly high as well. I only can imagine what some of these carts went through during their lifetime. Makes me wonder out of the millions of carts sold, how many are still in working conditions, let alone CIB?
You walked into the scene and I said to my friend, “this m’fer is wearing leopard pants!” And then what did you mention right away? Those badass pants! 😂
I don't make it back to one of my parents' houses often but I went back recently and asked for all my childhood games, they sold them all at a garage sale 😮💨my heart and sould was crushed. Now, I'm like you. Gotta spend half my salary for the next year and a half buying back my childhood before the prices get completely outrageous. Thankfully, it wasn't that many games and I'm gonna collect what I had pretty much. Not gonna collect too much more than that.
SuperMarioLand for 60 dollars. I bought that game in 1992 for 2400 Belgian Franks. ( before the Euro, 60€). I am almost 53 now, and i have to say, Damn, Nintendo keeps his prices up for sooo long! Greetz from a 52 year old Belgian, white guy, living minutes from the sea😄
Just came across your channel. Awesome stuff. New subscriber. I was at TooManyGames as well. Awesome pickups and congrats on emerald. I'm going for a complete north american wii set
Ghost Trick is a wonderful game, but I believe that the touchscreen controls on the DS are much better than the button controls I used for the Switch version's demo.
wish as a kid i knew how the value of these things would skyrocket, i had the pokewalker soulsilver box and remember throwing the box and losing the game and walker after moving
..... Seriously glad i own a physical copy legit of Emerald, never selling it lol. My battery died in it and the label a bit worse for wear but otherwise works great. Somehow my battery still works in my Yellow and Silver copies after all these years though!
Really does seem to be a big disparity in prices between the US and UK. $50 for Gravity Rush on Vita is about $20 or so more than you would pay here. Even a normally overpriced shop like CEX sells it for around $30. Same with Medievil, that's about $23. And the big one. Mint from CEX = $330
Thanks for this info! I’ll look for a UK copy now (have to double check if the Vita is region-locked) as I don’t mind the PAL rating on front for some savings.
Too many games deserves its name, I walked out with more games than I have ever got at any store and/or convention and a not so good looking and sounding ps2. Although I spent 4 hours in a line to get and autograph one of the days.
I remember one time my brother had some gba games a friend had shipped to him and he gave me a couple, 2 of them were loose copy’s of leaf green and firered and so I researched them, saw how much they went for and after confirming they were real sold them for 150 bucks for the both. It was then I realized how much these games go for
I had to laugh at the leopard trousers, all power to you, man. If you dig them thats all that matters. His Golden Age 2 instead of Golden Axe 2 was funny, too. Ryan has cash to burn if he can spend that much money on a game, but whatever brings him joy, who am i to judge. I am older than Ryan, i assume, as my first console at age 6 in 1991 was the Sega Mega Drive, box in white with a big Sonic in the middle. I have never owned or played a Pokemon game in all my years, but i understand it's a big thing for people, especially if they can charge that amount for an old handheld game. Some nice pick-ups, i have the Getaway, the sequel, shame the third game never came to fruition & the developer moved into vr or ps eye toy stuff, Gangs of London was a loose spin-off, still have my copy, it's not great but serviceable. I never owned a Nintendo console until the Gamecube, loved that machine, and have owned each subsequent console since but no backtracking for me to pick up old hardware & games at inflated prices as i prefer a bargain plus no nostalgia for games i haven't played to suck me down the rabbit hole. Your collection is ever growing, my man. Soon, you will need to shoot another cabinet assembly video to house your steadily amassing collection. Great content as always.
Will have to check out Gangs of London, didn’t know it was a spin-off. At first I thought it was a UMD movie of Gangs of New York with alternate cover art, as I just took a quick glance haha
If you ever get or are looking for a physical lost odyssey, make sure to buy the Japanese version. It's cheaper, comes with proper disc holders so doesn't have the bent 4th disc like most Western released versions have, and just looks better. Also can be played in English on Xbox One BC
Ryan was more excited about getting leopard print pants than any video game in his life😂
💀

It really is crazy. This seems to be happening a lot with Switch games which to me is crazy given it's still technically "current gen"
Hey Ryan pls don’t stop making these pickup videos they make me very happy and more enthusiastic on collecting video games
I was gonna say the same thing but from a poor man’s perspective. I cannot fathom bringing $1000 cash to a convention.

500 dollars for a pokemon game. The world has gone nuts
Part of the problem is people buying it unfortunately
As long as people buy them they will continue to sell them at these absurd prices. So vote with your wallet.
Yeah, the most expensive games are mostly Nintendo for some reason.

That Klonoa Empire of Dreams CiB is really awesome. I hope to have a CiB copy some day.
lovely video ryan as usual . love this new series keep it up cheers
Just came across your channel. Awesome stuff. New subscriber. I was at TooManyGames as well. Awesome pickups and congrats on emerald. I'm going for a complete north american wii set
Good luck on the Wii set!
Ghost Trick is a wonderful game, but I believe that the touchscreen controls on the DS are much better than the button controls I used for the Switch version's demo.
KLONOA!! wahoo!! Love that series so much
The same happened with me when watching that Dreadge trailer haha
I still have the Nightmare in Dream Land commercial song burned into my brain two decades later.
this man is incapable of missing
Leopard pants and another one of these videos I like! I’m ready lol!!
Good decision on the acrylic case. Makes it look even better.
“I achieved my goal!” he’s just like me fr
I was thinking about The Getaway and you show it ten seconds later 😂😂
wish as a kid i knew how the value of these things would skyrocket, i had the pokewalker soulsilver box and remember throwing the box and losing the game and walker after moving
..... Seriously glad i own a physical copy legit of Emerald, never selling it lol. My battery died in it and the label a bit worse for wear but otherwise works great. Somehow my battery still works in my Yellow and Silver copies after all these years though!
I'm here for the pants and Melissa.
And the PAL release of Medievil runs at the correct speed. The NTSC version is a bit too fast. One of the few rare instances...
Too many games deserves its name, I walked out with more games than I have ever got at any store and/or convention and a not so good looking and sounding ps2. Although I spent 4 hours in a line to get and autograph one of the days.
Henry hatsworth is an amazing game, also pretty difficult.
You now own my fav game of all time.
Is it Emerald?
@@BespokeSlipp FF8
Glad your getting out and about I found spawn wave through you
Great selection of games and one especially BIG one!
Love your work❤❤
Got a CIB PAL copy of Emerald in the UK last year for £120, but box was more beat up than yours, nice find!
Got a pretty nice one last year for £150 myself got to be one of my favourites in my collection
