      This is a hail Mary but, could you possibly do an amp install in the 2014? I just got a kicker 4 channel amp and am a bit lost. Thank you for the videos!

      @@876r876rf If this video gets enough views I would.. it will take some time though, so by then I'm sure you'll be done. It's not very difficult.. probably hardest part is getting the power wire from the battery to the back, and you can see my Compustar Alarm video for getting a wire from the engine side to inside the car. After that the wire can run on the driver side all the way to the back, just have to pull the trim at the bottom (next to the fuel door/trunk release).. along with the RCA outs and front speaker wires from the head unit. You can use new speaker wire and wire up the back speakers directly from the amp, and the front can hook into existing wiring from stereo... you'll need a color diagram for the factory stereo wiring to find the front speaker wires, probably available from the12volt.com . I also have a video for taking off the rear seats, you may have to do that, not sure. One thing I'm really not sure is where to get a good ground in the trunk... and I'm guessing you're installing in the trunk?? Cause some people put it under the driver's seat.. and in that case, there should be easily found ground points in the dash, and I show one in the Compustar Install Video.

      @@876r876rf Here's my Compustar Video: ua-cam.com/video/sR-mdzWnoaI/v-deo.html that shows routing a wire from under hood to inside, and ground point. Once you get the amp powered, it just needs the RCA outs from the stereo plugged into it, and the the speaker outs have to be connected to the speakers instead of the outs from the stereo.

      Thank you, that helps a lot. I'm just confused how I'm going to get wires from the amp all the way back to the front speakers. I have an idea of what to do in general but there are some clear gaps in info so i cant really move forward. I have a 2014 corolla, and i noticed on the drivers side north west of the gas pedal is an ovular cut by toyota in the insulation and you can just pull it right out. I believe that's where it's going to go through.@@CleverFix

    I’m amazed at how easy the stock removal is. When I upgraded the stereo in my 2006 Corolla, years ago, you had to take out the center console and disassemble a good portion of the dash.

    Awesome tutorial as usual Clever. Been thinking of upgrading for a long time. I have installed a 5 channel amp in my 2015 and the stock headunit is not great. Sound quality is key for me. Was thinking of doing this radio over the chinese big screen ones. Do you lose steering wheel controls to change the music?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  28 днів тому

      Thanks! The Steering Wheel controls will continue working with the CRUX SWRTY adapter, however, Pioneer hasn't mapped them very well when listening to radio. All I can do is change volume, and tune to pre-set radio stations. I can't Seek to a new station. The mode button changes from Radio to Bluetooth, USB.. but can't change between AM/FM from the steering wheel. Answering and hanging up calls also works. I bought this one because I know Pioneer lasts a long time, and I'm not sure about the cheap aftermarkets. I never had a good experience with cheap car audio components. The sound quality is definitely improved with the Pioneer, and I really like being able to tune the sound with the equalizer. Thanks for watching!

    i wish i could upgrade to a pioneer unit. Sadly my car has a beats audio soundsystem and important car settings that you make on the stereo which wont work with a different one

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  15 днів тому

      Mine did too, it had door lock and light sensitivity settings, but I can live without them. I hardly ever changed them. If I ever really need to, I kept the old stereo and I can put it back in temporarily.. I guess it just depends how important those settings are. The dealer can likely adjust them also through the OBD port, but they'll charge for it.

  • @adamthewoodworker2571

    Hey. In your opinion, is this a "more necessary"/higher priority upgrade than adding an amp for new speakers?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  9 місяців тому +1

      Amps usually take a Line In, which means an unamplified sound source. The stock stereo doesn't have Line Out,.. so adding an amp doesn't really work. Some amps can work off of already amplified output but they won't have good quality and the quality of the stock stereo is not so great, so even if you manage to put in amp, it will be amplifying a low quality sound source. The stereo upgrade is quite costly, but it would be the first thing to do after upgrading the speakers, if better quality is needed, line outs, and of course the mobile connectivity upgrade.

      Check the description, I used the CRUX SWRTY-61N , I placed an Amazon link there . It creates the "connection" between the car and the stereo and allows steering wheel controls to be kept, as well as reverse camera. And the stock connectors on the car don't need to be cut off. Hope that helps. See more info directly from CRUX: cruxinterfacing.com/product/swrty-61n-radio-replacement-w-swc-oe-rvc-retention-for-toyota-vehicles-2012-up/

    Does the back-up camera show on the new unit you've put in? I'm looking to replace mine since Toyota is quoting me $3000+ for a brand new radio unit or if I have it exchange it is going to cost me $1000+!

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  7 місяців тому +1

      yes, the SWRTY adapter includes backup camera input, so the RCA connector from the car plugs into the SWRTY and it actually has a much better picture than the OEM head unit at night. That's ridiculous $3000.. If you really want another stock one, you can get it from a junk yard very cheap... The sound is way better with Pioneer though.

      @@CleverFix I'm definitely leaning towards just updating the whole thing with a touchscreen unit like you did. More sleek and has more options. And way cheaper! • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  5 місяців тому +1

      The USB is working perfectly on mine still, so I think it's a rare thing, but yes I've seen some reviews about that. The sound is WAY better.. More rich and more frequencies. It makes driving more fun for sure. I played around with the equalizer for a while until I got it to the perfect settings for my ears, and I've had it there since. It took a few days of getting adjusted to it.. I was so used to the more "muted" stock stereo.. a lot more highs from this unit.
      The stock "high" "bass" and "treble" settings are a joke. It was definitely worth the money. I just checked and there's a "used acceptable" and "used - very good" right now on the Amazon link in the description, that are a fairly good price. I've had pretty good luck on the warehouse deals.

      @@CleverFix Ok thanks I appreciate the response, that's definitely what I was hoping since I'm about to install a Sony XAV-AX5500 (on sale locally where I am in Canada) + Kicker speakers all around, I can't stand the stock stereo. Last question, I am planning to do a subwoofer amp install in the future so unfortunately that remote turn on wire (blue/white) can only be used for the antenna in the 2014 Corolla since it can only be ran on one circuit? I want good reception but I also want to be able to install an amp in the future thus I was originally planning to maybe leave it unwrapped so I don't need to take off the tape when I install my amp wiring kit later on.

    Can you still change the vehicle settings with the new head unit?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  Рік тому +2

      No, the vehicle settings are only available on the factory stereo. I don't really need to change anything ever, I'm happy with the usual settings, but I kept the stock stereo just in case. If I ever need to change something, I can always re-install it temporarily. And if I ever want to sell the car for example, I can also pop it right back in, and keep my stereo for the next car.

      @@CleverFixso there's nothing aftermarket that can change the car settings? We're stuck with OEM fot that matter?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  5 місяців тому

      @@emacrz2561Yes, unfortunately only the OEM head unit can interface with the vehicle to change settings. For certain things, like Door lock settings, some Corollas are programmable through a specific sequence of presses of buttons on the door itself .. but for headlight settings and other things, only the head unit can do it. I also believe the dealer can change any settings, without the head unit installed, but they'd charge for it. The only thing I really miss is the fuel efficiency graph.. I can live with the same door/headlight settings.

      This was asked in another comment, so I'll just reply the same reply:
      "Possible short circuit somewhere.. Could be the USB cable is bad, or sometimes the error can show if the speakers are shorted, the terminals of the speakers shouldn't touch any of the car's body, if they do it can short them. I'd take the USB cable out, see if it still happens, and if it happens, then disconnect the speakers one by one.. the rear is easiest to start with."

      Sorry I didn't get the time. It's super simple though, the A-pillar video is pretty much all that's needed. ua-cam.com/video/bDzc7cpNY7I/v-deo.html I double side taped it on the windshield at the top.. Make sure to glue it somewhere where it doesn't obstruct your view if you're picky.. I don't like seeing the black blob in the way t all... It can be placed in such a way that it's not visible at all. The dash side cover just pops off and the wire goes through easily, then I used some zip ties.
