For those of you who think that the Beach Boys were so great back in the day, they sounded so good because the group of LA studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew played the instruments on their records. Carol Kaye, a bass player and the only female member of The Wrecking Crew, played the bass line on "Good Vibrations." None of them got credits on the albums. The Wrecking Crew played the instruments for The 5th Dimension (Joe Osborn on bass on "Aquarius"). They were the instrumentalists on most of the hit records of the 1960s and early 1970s that were recorded in LA. There is a documentary about The Wrecking Crew on youtube.
Only for the albums Today-Smile, other than that they were mostly playing themselves. (That's Not Me is one song from this period that they did play, there might be more) And even during that era they sounded so great because Brian Wilson was _directing_ the Wrecking Crew. And obviously the Beach Boys were providing the vocals throughout.
The Wrecking Crew took over completely for Pet Sounds and Smile, that's it. Every other album they're either playing alongside the band or they aren't present at all.

(That's Not Me is one song from this period that they did play, there might be more)
And even during that era they sounded so great because Brian Wilson was _directing_ the Wrecking Crew. And obviously the Beach Boys were providing the vocals throughout.
The Wrecking Crew took over completely for Pet Sounds and Smile, that's it. Every other album they're either playing alongside the band or they aren't present at all.
Wish I had kept that cyanide
Are their voices auto-tuned? I used to listen to the beach boys frequently in highschool and this performance sounds aweful.
Anyone else notice Stamos pretending to be the late and great Dennis Wilson? What a joke when he plays over back beat and pre recorded drum tracks...
