Positivity and optimism is the essence of what sets Babymetal apart from most of the metal scene. Before I became a Babymetal fan I was pretty over most of metal because I was tired of negativity and they I discovered them and their uplifting take on metal and I was hooked. Babymetal are often described as "happy metal" and that's pretty fitting, IMO.
Nice one.🦊'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times.
They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well. As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards.
As you saw, in the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (Well spotted with the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them. Not many people spot that).
They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly, as you said, was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time .... and she let it go. We all know Moa wouldn't hurt a fly.
This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".
Nice! This song is about finding courage to fight through adversity together, to accomplish one’s goals.
Good catch at the end! The 3 ghosts represents the girl’s inner demons, as their own image is reflected in the eyes.
At the time of the song’s release, Babymetal was starting to explode onto the international stage. Given their unique style, they received a lot of gatekeeping hate. So the message is really poignant as Babymetal fought hard through it to push forward. But ultimately, it’s about overcoming one’s self doubt and inner demons.

"Karate" is one of their stronger weapons along with "Road Of Resistance" from 2nd album "Metal Resistance" released in 2016. It's an uplifting song about keep fighting besides the obstacles no matter what, and if you take a closer look at the end you'll see in the eyes of their rivals that they're fighting against no other than themselves.
Some fans also find anime vibes on BabyMetal songs, the only other song I could find with anime vibes besides this one and "Divine Attack - Shingeki", is "Syncopation" another banger.
They watched several footage before making this song, one of those were "Karate Kid" old movie, that's why you see MoaMetal catching a bug, that's a reference to the movie, after this she became the bug catcher expert when traveling on live tour lol. The bats and the concrete blocks testing strength is another infamous Karate reference.
Btw just in case, the band playing behind in this MV are hired actors, they got their own set of musicians when performing live called Kami Band, they're not always the same musicians but currently this year they've been playing with a westerners band unlike early era after 2012 when they had a Japanese band.
You can enjoy the live version with the blaster sound of the East Kami Band watching Download Festival 2016 among many others but this one is safe to react. Now with that being said, last weekend they played this at Rock Am Ring Festival in Germany and they did it like never before plus new super cool outfits or battle dresses, it was really beautiful and there's a proshot clip around but I'm not sure if that is safe for a reaction, you can try if you want, trust me, it'll worth the effort.
Also another cool version to watch and meet the new Metalverse subgroup is Karate live at PIA Arena MM 2023, they got their own songs but you can start with this introduction.

yes, they are fighting themselves, their greatest enemy.
What i love about this video is the hidden eggs in it. First, right when Su drops her punch to destroy the blocks, look at her hand before it hits. It is the fox sign. Second at the end look at tge eyes and you see the girls reflection showing which one it is. This song is all about getting up after being knocked down and keep going.
Love the positive messages of all their songs.
Babymetal never tells us the meanings of songs or videos (or at leaset almost never), its art and you are allowed for it to have whatever meaning makes sense to you.

Great reaction! Yes those were the Babymetal girls in the reflection of the eyes. As for the other thing reflected in the eye, I'm not too sure, but if I were to guess, I'd guess it's the Babymetal logo as they really like pushing the logo whenever they can.
One thing I'm curious about and just thought about after watching this reaction video. It just occurred to me, but what happened to the demon dude that knocked the girls down? lol Just thought of that! I guess the girls overkilled him with their "super moves" as you called it? lol
