I would like to add that "Explicit Instruction" happens when you are telling students where to place fingers on tools you may be using, directing students with vocal position of lips, tongue, and teeth, instructing students where their eyes should be (explicit teacher strategies). You would this for explicit instruction for decoding. Then you have explicit instruction for comprehension. This is where you would also include metacognition instruction along with the explicit directions on how students will comprehend. Explicit teaching is about the use of specific tools for a particular focus that are consistently, appropriately used in a scheduled manner that students are able to successfully follow your guided directions with little to no error. Beginning teachers sometimes don't have an understanding of "Explicit Instruction." I have found that many beginning teachers must see explicit instruction as it is happening with a group of students to fully understand explicit instruction. It is all about the "Teacher Moves and the student's response to the teacher moves."
Hello, I love the 4 day set up and explanation of these structured literacy lessons. However, there are phonological awareness activities that are missing, the ones about syllables. How could I go about including these during the week?
What does this cover in terms of reading and language arts? Grammar? Phonics? Comprehension? Reading? Is this strictly for learning phonics and reading skills? If homeschooling, will I need more things to teach language arts and grammar? Thank you for your help!

Yes. The pre-assessments cover the major skills in the program. Teachers will be able to use the pre-assessments to identify exactly where students need to begin in the program.
Do you have a list of phonics readers that are used explicitly with this program? I’ve been a member of Guided Readers for awhile and I cannot find a list of books for the EASE program. Or are the books you’re using the boxed set you are selling? I hope not
If you download the getting started guide on the Structured Literacy page on your portal, the list of books for each lesson will be listed in that pdf. If you need further assistance, definitely send us an email at info @ guided readers . com We hope this helps, -GUIDED READERS TEAM
