Sausage roll versus 250V.

- A popular British snack tested for electrical conductivity at a spicy 248V in the Presto Hotdogger that was sent by Kim Sleep.
This food test was suggested by Vince the crew chief. I may redo it with a couple of forks for better contact and more open electro-cooking.

"The sausage roll has malfunctioned." Words I never expected to hear unless I was watching Wallace & Gromit.
Who knows? That line might be in their next movie. Funny.
@@thomaslevy2119 Big Clive could be a character in an upcoming Wallace & Gromit movie.
Once you reach a certain age or beer intake, the odds of hearing it from the 'lady of the house' goes up quickly.😆
Probably due to excessive gravy pressure.

I've surprised you haven't tried pickles in this thing yet. Pickles glow when you run current through them and I know you love strange lights.

"Unprofessional sausage molestation" sounds like something you'd find on another popular video site..
But it's been through Google Translate six times.

Next time you stuff a sausage roll in and it breaks, solder it back together?
The hot dogger was designed to work at 120V but it's getting 240V so to get it to cook sausages at the design specification, stick two sausages in series.
This man's doin' that brain thinkin'!
Thats not how this w... you know what.. im just gonna look away..
Clive needs to hook up a 15Amp Variac to the hot dogger and run it at 120vac. I believe there would be less arc'n and burnt food.

@@markkrusemer526 he could much better control the cooking with the variac!

"I'm a bit concerned about my broken sausage, now..."
I'd be concerned if my sausage were broken too. Them things are resilient but when they break...
They break hard
As I said, Any man would be concerned.
I could literally feel Clive sighing in remorse of that statement lol
@@AndrewBeals I have actually broken my sausage before. It's quite unpleasant
@@thomasvlaskampiii6850 Yeah it's always unpleasant when one breaks their sausage. Makes it much more difficult to stick it in the bun.
@@RedHeadForester Its even more unpleasant when it's the bun that caused the break in the first place

*Just what we needed on a damp Thursday evening, watching Big Clive pierce his sausage.*
Did you just bodge wire a pastry?
Yeah, I think he did....
Aw, thanks Clive. Now I’m hungry for sausage rolls.
Given I’m an expat 7000 miles away, there’s no way to acquire one, even a crappy one from the coop.
American-style breakfast sausage links (e.g. Jimmy Dean brand) make an entirely adequate substitute. Just wrap them in a bit of (savory!) flaky or shortcrust pastry dough, cut them in half if you prefer bite-sized, and bake.
Fatty, salty sausage makes better rolls, since the fat carries the salt as it soaks into the pastry. Lean sausage makes for dry rolls and lower-salt sausage leaves them bland.
Don't try to use puff pastry or filo/phyllo; it doesn't turn out very well at all.
the amount of content this machine has gotten you is awesome. Give the guy who donated it a trophy!!
3:57 - 4:10 ish pretty much sums up most Big Clive videos. Love your work!

Most entertaining thing I've seen on UA-cam in DAYS!
Would you dare to try a kipper? Could do it outside to avoid stinking up the workshop and see how many cats turn up :)
Thanks Clive, I've had a rotten day and you made me smile and laugh!
Clive, when the sausage roll goes high resistance you should increase the voltage. Put a neon transformer to good use!
Actually a microwave transformer would probably work much better but be much more dangerous.
And in case of fire.... it all could be suspended above a tub of water. Big Clive will be wearing heavy duty rubber gloves ! Hehehebebebe
I've forgotten, have we tested a fully populated hot dog electrocutor? Curious if it draws current linearly with number it hit dogs.
I think he had it fully populated. The current should increase linearly with the number of hot dogs because all the hot dogs are connected in parallel.
@@eDoc2020 yes he did
This is possibly the most informative thing I've seen all week.
You had me at the first slice. You really ought to consider a cooking channel for electrical engineers.
Love to see this unit back on the channel 😁

“Let’s unplug it and interfere with the sausage”... 🤣😂 Sir Clive, there is a whole other market awaiting your innuendos! Just think, a t-shirt with those exact words would be amazing! Also, I would pay happily for a “errr... one moment, please” t-shirt!
This device must have been invented by CMOT Dibbler.
Care for a sausage in-a-bun?
Amazingly, the thing Clive tried to electrocute probably resembles a proper sausage about as much as one of Dibbler's.
cut my own throat Dibbler .. there's a name i've not heard in years ..

Big Clive: bringing fresh sausage exposure to UA-cam for your viewing pleasure.
Hey Clive, love the anticts! Fab!. Right at the end "where you said "I got to eat a sausage roll", you sounded like Ivor Cutler when he said in one of his crazy ditties, "I ate a ladies bun".!!!!
This video had me in stitches when you have captions on 🤣🤣
Had one in the mid-70's. The base slid into the top like a drawer. Worked well.
Put a link here if you know of any other video on youtube (released before this one) to use the phrase "an unprofessional sausage molestation"
None on UA-cam, I think you need Pornhub for that... Plenty there!
Thank you for being crazy too. It makes me feel more secure about the things that happen in my home shop. :)
"Bit concerned about my brokem sausage now" - Theres a memorable quote with many layers
This contraption really reminds me of one of my first electrical inventions, an electric hob. It was a biscuit tin with a wire sellotaped to the inside of the lid, and one sellotaped to the inside of the tin. Then I asked my dad to put a mains plug on it for me (he didn't thankfully)
"Its an unprofessional sausage molestation..." picking up some Mrs. Doubtfire vibes there!
When we tested the capacitance of a Johnsonville brat we loaded them diagonally...
My takeaway is that sausage rolls can be used as a substitute for 600mA slow-blow fuses.
O.....K.... this is just weird. But strangely satisfying. Thank you Clive
Took that to bits, very entertaining!
Coming up: A Project Farm style assessment of 5 different brands of sausage roll.
Complete with lubricity test, hot dogger test, and all the trimmings!
He does take all his video ideas from the comments, so we might be able to get him to do it, especially if someone sent him the test materials.
That's a good idea especially the lubricity test.
That is one wicked-looking Hotdogger! The one that I got c. 1980 was all sheet metal for the current-carrying elements. As I recall, it was far more effective at heating the plastic case to the point of outgassing some noxious chemicals than it was at heating a wiener.
I just got one of these at a flea market for $5. I was so excited to just see it there.
I used to cook hotdogs in one of these all the time when I was a kid in the 70s. Still remember the scorched taste of the electrocuted hotdogs. Truly a unique way of cooking them that I've not seen since.
I'm a bit partial to a good sausage roll. Pastry is just amazing in general.
This however looks far from being a good sausage roll. There seems to be much more cereal than meat related content in it.
@@Thermalions Clive knew it would not work properly and who only buys one of them?
Probably need to add moisture to the filling but I expect the crust would not be adequately heated without spoiling the filling.
Glad you were able to enjoy it; hope it doesn't result as I fear: frequent, urgent, lengthy visits to the … what is your term, "water closet"?

"I'm trying to get a good connection to my sausage roll here..." I laughed through the whole thing.
We had one of these things as a shop project in high school. It had no protection devices whatsoever. Just the raw mains connected to the spikes.
Thats the quality content im looking for
Clive has the best content on youtube.... Period.
We had one of those in maybe the early or mid 70's. Made the hot dogs taste quite metallic.
I used a Presto "Hot dogger" back in the 1950s; back then, it was still plastic, but the top was hinged (and opaque). Electrodes were carbon cones (probably better for you than pot metal). Red body with a white lid.
Hi Clive, have you tried making a lasagne in this thing yet; & would Wall's 'Viennetta' fit in nicely for 'a bridge too phut'? : )
Tune in next week to watch Clive re-wire his house with soggy noodles
You should make like a hot press (panini press) with current from one side to the other. By pressing it together you can get a good contact and hold things together. And baked parts that reduce in current means that after a while pretty much all parts get baked.
Is there resistance between the mains plug and the connectors under the lid, if so, could it be modified to better accept 240 volt, as boring as that would be
Jam bits in everywhere, broken sausage, salty goodness, unprofessional sausage molestation, fizzing popping noises, snapped when he put it in and when you thought it was all over.... there was another little burst of action.... and Clive ate all the sausage at the end.... 🌭
The Mrs ended up asking wtf i was watching 😂😂😂
We all know what’s on Big Clives mind haha!!
You’re the best UA-camr by far haha!! You should do live streams!!
You could install the test roll at a bias as the top and bottom rail are uniform. There's no need for the roll to be installed at a 90° angle.
Pretty sure this thing is Clive new favorite kitchen gadget. Not that we're complaining.
Sausage Rolls in a Bun were popular at our school tuckshop
Wouldn't it be easier to fit the full size roll more diagonally?

Perhaps this wasn't the most optimal sausage seating position

Aw, what did that sausage roll do to deserve such a fate?...
Seriously though, this channel takes me to some weird places and I love it. Good job Clive 😄
Hi Big Clive have you tried one of those flexible cheese strings cheeses in the hot dogger, or a peperami if not perhaps you could try these when you test the sausage rolls again.
Thanks for the great videos, keep them coming when you can.
best wishes fella
"let's interfere with a sausage roll in here", you do have a way with words 😂
I remember my mom bought one of these hot dog cookers years ago. It didn’t work very well; the hot dogs were almost burnt and dried out on the ends but barely luke warm in the middle.
I wonder what a passively connected scope would display?
"let's bridge these two ends with pastry" brilliant
The sausage rolls we get in the northeastern US are basically a hot dog in a factory bun. The "pastry" isn't very pastry-like, honestly I think they'd work amazingly in a Hotdogger.
You're worth every penny, Clive.
I had that identical model of hot dogger. Kielbasa just sort of pops. As I recall , it was really inconsistent , and you had to keep the spikes clean.
Carbonized hot dog gunk can be difficult to clean off.
The cheap hotdogs worked better than the pricier ones , as I recall..
If you have any access to a step-up transformer, Id be really curious to see some experiments with various voltages.
Mattersons smoked sausage might work well?
I honestly didnt think i wold see this thing again
