    The Steens presents magnificent examples of landscape that one can observe simply driving up to the top from Frenchglen. About 3-4 climatic zones & a corresponding variety of the flora & fauna that exist there. The loop road from Frenchglen is still a fine washboard road all the way to the top but the remainder of the loop road down to the highway south of Frenchglen was in pretty bad shape in 2006 & not suitable then for normal passenger vehicles. Perhaps that has changed since then & I would love to get an update since I have not been in the area since 2007. The Steens loop, driving directly up from Frenchglen, remains one of the most memorable 20+ miles I have ever experienced, however living abroad, singing engagements, & recent health issues have kept me from visiting the area since but I will again in 2025 hopefully. Thanks so much for the posting & any more updated info would be really appreciated.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 місяці тому

      Here's hoping that you get to return in 2025, Peter! Hopefully we can too without the wildfire smoke. The entire loop is graded gravel/dirt, and while the whole thing was a washboard mess while we were there, any vehicle could drive it. It truly is a spectacular drive. Thanks so much for watching!

    What a unique video.
    The campsite looked great; wouldn’t mind staying there at all.
    Never expected that scenery from Oregon.
    Loved the Riddle Brothers Ranch and glad that it has been preserved for future generations.
    Really cool mountain scenery up on Steen Mountain.
    The refuge was unusual, but a nice change for the area.
    Diamond Craters was very interesting. Somewhere in the middle of Oregon there is a place where you can hike through lava tubes. I did this when I was a kid, so I don’t remember off hand where they are. One could Google it I suppose. We don’t need to wonder anymore. 🤔

      *Anything* is reasonably priced compared to Pigeon Forge. Well, other than maybe California. When we were there we had perhaps our best stay ever in a privately-run RV park, at Honeysuckle Meadows in Wears Valley ua-cam.com/video/5bPLhzqd5QA/v-deo.html . Absolutely massive sites, wonderfully quiet, terrific owners, and close enough to PF and Gatlinburg to enjoy both, yet far enough away to escape the zoo. It sticks in our minds as one of our highlights of 2020. See you next week!

I think that I saw those guys more than any other band while I was in college. I went to school near Albany, NY and for some reason the Gurus used to play Albany inordinately often for a band from Australia. Maybe one of them had a girlfriend in town, who knows?

      Thank you Tom! We understand, as we recently picked up a Mini 2 to complement our Mavic Pro. The shots in this video atop Steens Mountain took place in way too strong a breeze for the Mini 2, and even the Mavic was none too happy about it. I got it up in the air, got my shots and got back down quickly.
      FYI State Farm offers a standalone Personal Articles Floater policy that takes away a lot of the hesitancy. It's all-risk, zero deductible and replacement cost. You can schedule up to $5,000 in drones and other cameras, computers, etc. for $60/year, and additional increments of $5,000 cost an additional $60. It's stand-alone, so you don't need any other business with State Farm. Just pick it up through a local agent. It gives us incredible peace of mind that should something (anything) happen to the drone, we get a check for a new one.

    Nice work Marc. What is your camera setup when you do kayak filming! Do you use a mounted gimbal? W/GP?

      Thanks TLG! Up until recently I was using a DJI Osmo Pocket gimbal camera mounted on the bow, and an old GoPro 5 on the stern. On the Snake River, however, the Pocket (which isn't waterproof) went for a swim. I bought an Osmo Pocket 2 and did shoot a video with that on the bow, but also picked up a GoPro 9 and in our latest video from Elko that was mounted on the bow, and was also used for the chest-mounted shot. We're still experimenting.

      @@thelawngenius2880 same to you. One of these days we're going to do an episode covering the camera gear we use, as we get asked about it so often. Probably this winter when we're struggling for weekly content. 😄

      That promo code is expired as this video was from 2021. Ask them to apply code GrandAdventure for the 30-day trial.
