Yes she does! So does Geoff, I'm so used to his deep voice that I love the songs that showcase his higher register.
The way Layne and Caesar also looked at Geoff when he changed costumes was just as epic as the way Ashley looked at him,
it amazes me that people miss the fact that Geoff changes outfits!
Ashley had to talk Geoff into doing it.

Geoff is wearing the same shorts as Ashley too. That part gets everyone.
Not a green screen, but a printed backdrop with plants in the forefront. They do everything themselves, including getting on a ladder to hang that backdrop! Ashley's outfit was rented (?) and they sent two sizes to make sure they would fit. That's how Geoff had the same shorts and blouse that she had.
They have a new one coming out in a few days - you are going to love it!

I was able to see the early release of the video because I'm a patron, and when they began Isabela's part, I was thinking, 'Oh, Ashley is gorgeous, especially with the lighting, and the slow-mo and the petals floating through the air, and LOOK at the way Geoff is looking at her with such admiration, I'm getting jealous!" And then a few seconds later I was doubled over with laughter and thinking, "Oh, my bad, he wasn't admiring her, he was just longing to wear that blouse!"
Layne's side eye at Geoff during his solo just killed me... XD

Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Did anyone take notice that it was Cesar that hit the high note before Ashley came in behind him ? Cesar has a very wide range.
Caesar would make a perfect live action version of Felix.
One other thing I'm not sure you noticed was Layne and Caesar's facial expressions during Geoff's costume change. They are hilarious.
If they ever make a music theater version of this they're going to have to cast these guys for at least that song

Geoff wore the top and pink shorts Ashley was wearing. I missed the shorts the first time. The character transforms, so the purple light shining on Ashley, then Geoff then Cesar showed they were singing as that character. Love this video.
Voiceplay never ceases to amaze me. This is fabulous and when it first dropped I never laughed so hard in my life and loved every microsecond of it.
7:57 Did you notice the drop in Geoff's base? He's going waaaaaay down there and keeps the note going while Cesar sings "Bella, your boyfriend's here!"
Geoff is portraying Camilo the Shapeshifter and his costume change is because he is stealing Ashley‘s line and channeling Isabella for the second half of that section. They filmed it a double speed and then slowed it down because otherwise the petals kind of fell to the ground but it really paid off because of his hair flip and the gently wafting hand in the breeze.
You finally got Geoff’s costume change. Yay! But you have been the only reactor who caught Ashley had the prophecy stones. Go you!
Eli's part during the overlapping melodies is so *damn* *pretty*

Fantabulous Maggie! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one as much as I did. So many things to see and hear whenever voiceplay puts out a video. All those little touches they do so well. I just knew you'd love it. Everybody was great Ashley Diane making another appearance rocked this part IMO. But as always they gave the exact right parts to each person. And that moment where Geoff takes over her solo & her outfit... priceless! Layne... crushing it in this one. I could just go on and on about all of them!

Ashley was with them in "If I Were a Rich Man / Girl" (Fiddler on the Roof), and did that up-and-down riff ending in "what?" (Gwen Stefani style). Her voice is amazing!
Maggie, you absolutely made no comment about Geoff wearing same outfit as Ashley during the flower petal solos. You just glossed over the whole thing. I thought you were more observant than that. It was a priceless comic relief addition to the song.

Having listened to this video and your reaction dozens of times in total, I'm convinced that the extra "S" you heard from Ashley on "mischievous" was actually one of Layne's cymbal noises happening at just the right time to sort of blend into her inflection. Also, I can't get over your face when Geoff drops that G1! 😂

That's a 'Geoff 1'. It's his easy note that he can hit without any struggle.
The vocalist who sings in my husbands band has taught me a few things about singing jazz. For example, sliding notes is one thing. You see, to a non singer these things are something one would not know about unless they choose to learn, and I love learning even if I can not sing myself.
I have not sung in many decades. When I was in high school (hint: the President was bald) we had a doowop quartet. The baritone and tenor were pretty good, the alto was passable. Me? The only reason they made me the bass was that I was the only one around who could reach those notes. Knowing how is nice. Doing is another matter
Geoff's costume change fits into the Encanto plot, because in the original, his earlier part "7 foot frame, rats along his back" isn't really Bruno singing, it's Camilo the shape-shifter looking like Bruno, what Geoff is wearing in most of the video. Then when Ashley sings Isabela's part with the lighting change and petals, Geoff (as Camilo?) finishes the Isabela part in her costume. Oh, and plus, it's hilarious! :)
Its not actually a green screen but a background created in unreal engine and layered while editing by Lain, incredible. Great reaction to a great video thanks Maggie you always make me smile.
No. Layne used a picture and editing software to make it look like a painting. (The same software that he used in Pattycake Productions latest video, Villians.). It was then printed onto vinyl and hung as a backdrop. Layne told us this during the live feed from the shoot as he was letting us see the set.
As far as I know, the only time they used Unreal Engine was when Eli made the backgrounds for My Mother Told Me during the pandemic when they each had to film separately.
A new Voiceplay release is not complete until I have seen the Maggie Renee reaction to it. Epical as always. Always a good time. 🤫

You are the only one to notice Geoff wearing the same top as Ashley!! Nobody else that has reviewed this song has noticed that change, so congratulations to you for seeing that!!
Ashley sings "mischievous" (three-syllable pronunciation, favored e.g. in the Received Pronunciation, /MISS-chiv-uss/; I don't know if that's how she would normally pronounce the word, or if she's copying the original, which also pronounces it the same way). The extra "s" you're hearing is from one of the other singers, singing a syncopated part.
If I were to sing it in my Midwest speech pattern, my instinct would be to skip the short pause after "in", allowing the stressed syllable in "mischievous" to fall in the same place:
Original: Bruno walks in with a miss chiv uss grin
Midwest: Bruno walks in with a miss CHEEV ee uss grin

Yes, it was Ashley that convinced Geoff to make the costume change. Notice the look on Ashley Diane's face when Geoff takes over her lines. So not only does he admire and put on the same clothes, but steals her moment in the song. And she is not at all pleased by the development. It really is fun to go back and watch the faces of the others react to something someone else is doing. Look at Layne's facial expression when Cesar says "THUNDER" and the annoyance on Ashley's face for being interrupted while telling her story. Voiceplay's facial expressions are priceless.

Hey Maggie! Great review. I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but in the ending, Layne is apparently doing something that he calls “inhale singing.” So that last line he does is with his breath first going in, then out, then in again. (If you’re like me you’ll now go back and listen to that 10 more time to figure out how the he!! he does that?! I still don’t know.)

He also takes the bass line when Geoff "shape-shifts".
Geoff's shirt change was a hint that his role wasn't Bruno but instead he is playing Camilo who is a shapeshifter.

A little behind the scenes info, apparently it was Ashley that convinced Geoff to change into the costume for that line, since his and her parts were sung by the same character, lol
"We don't talk about Bruno~" is what it sounded like Layne was singing, but it was like he inhaled the "we" and "Bruno" when he was hitting those low notes, because they sound muffled.
If you watch it on that one part he's not only wearing her shirt he's wearing her pants, and Ashley's the one that talked him into doing this part because it was normally supposed to be hers

I was a bit confused on my first listen as well. She does sing ”mischievous”, but the backing vocals kinda make it sound like there’s an extra s in there
Ashley Diane is a good friend of Cesar - born born in Puerto Rico. Yes Geoff was also wearing the same pink shorts. He is playing the shape shifter in the film. Layne's idea but Geoff makes a great Disney Princess. And yes Cesar is gay so the words about the man of his dreams were approppriate.
You must watch If I Were a Rich Man/Girl. Ashley Diane really is amazing, she sings with a vocal jazz quartet called Resolve. Her performances with the guys,however, are epic! I love her text painting (I think that is the right term) coming up to the end she sings a bit of Delores' part and her descending run on "Falling SAND" hits me in the gut.
Geoff was playing Camilo...the shapeshifter, took Isabela's second verse......hence the clothing change, it is said that Geoff's blouse is 1 size larger than the one worn by Ashley.....it was Ashley's suggestion for Geoff to do costume change, and good sport that he is, why not?.........LOL..........>^^< at this llistening 1 month out, and 1.8 million views........WHAT?

His C2 sounds like a C1 because his voice is kind of gnarly and have lots of overtones, then our brains might construct the C1 from those overtones. Also the C2 ticks in his voice might be the edges of a C1 square wave. Maybe the same thing really.
