In my 3 or so years of keeping fish and planted aquariums I've never used artificial lighting. My 2 tanks are put near the window on purpose and fish and plants love it. Every month or so when it starts raining and sky gets cloudy my tiger barbs start to breed even in my hard tap water. Colours of barbs and tetras on natural daylight/sunlight are simply amazing.

I have been running 2 tanks with cabombas placed right beside a northish facing window which gets plenty on indirect sunlight and i must say...its been amazing . Probably a few strands of algae in one of them because it gets an hour or two of direct light during the afternoon. But its absolutely unnoticeable.
The other tank which doesnt.get any direct sunlight doesnt have any at all.

hey bro, I have a few questions for you. if you know pls answer them.
    1) what's your opinion on yeast DIY Co2 ??
    2) I am from India.the place where I live is extremely hot, approx 95F-105F/35C -41C, for 10 months in a year. so I use an external fan to lower tank's temperature. The problem is water in the tank evaporates quickly approx 1.5 gallons every 2 days. My question is should I use Tap water or RO water to top up the tank ??

Awesome video Dustin! I take advantage of the sun by having my 10 gallon low shallow aquascaping tank on a side table of my computer desk. Every night I open up the curtains so the sun can shine bright but not direct at my tank. I sometimes get direct sunlight if there’s a window that the sun is shinning bright at and then it reflects it on my window which is very cool especially since I live in the 5th floor of an apartment building!

are all your plants in lead weights only or are planted in sand and dirt? or they just sit tied in lead and then the roots enters the substrate as the time pass by…?

Nice video. I have seen Indonesian bucephalandra farmers growing their plants outside with direct sunlight but they will use a shade cloth exactly like yours all the time (no greenhouse). This applies to Bucephalandra and probably Anubias because it replicates the plant´s natural habitat in the jungle rivers (tall trees that partially shade the plant year round). Of course this concept is only good if you live in a tropical country or a place without cold winters with snow and the weather is constant all the time. The Bucephalandras are kept fully submerged with good water flow just the way they like it. I also suspect that your Staurogen reppens will do better if it is kept also outside but shaded. Find the plants origin and replicate it.

*Beansie* not afraid of the history lessons in aquarium videos. So the trick is water changes in tubs with no declor- kills bugs - but doesn’t hurt plants- sunlight makes it dissolve quickly

I don’t have great aquarium lights. ( I’m always broke lol ) BUT my planted tanks are near my WINDOWS. The one closest to the biggest window, is a JUNGLE!
I put some plants in my little patio pond and they exploded! And the two water hyacinths and one water lettuce ended up filling in my entire pond I had to move them into other containers there are so many.
The morning is shady but they get full sun in the middle of the day before the sun moves behind the house.
As for amazing Australian Shepards !
My Astrid is simply the most amazing dog I’ve ever owned. I’ve had German Shepards and Collies. Aussies have those all rolled into one. The are THE most intelligent dogs!
Astrid does “speak “ and she also can “ whisper” I love that dog so much!

Yeah man, that shade cloth makes a world of a difference. 1.0 had a shade tree next to it. My greenhouse doesnt so i had to start using shade cloth as well. Im honestly really curious how your winter will go. I hope its just as you plan and yoir greenhouse stays warm enough. Winters are brutal in greenhouses, especially up here in Oregon.

Cool vid, now where's my shades 😎
I have direct sunlight in summer on my tank for about 4 hours, from 5 pm to 9 pm. I do not have algae in my tank. In summer I reduce my lighting period to 5 hours though, have CO2 on all day, from sunrise to sundown and use a fan to keep water at 75F. There's many people who treat direct sunlight in a tank like poison. It's not such a problem as long as you have balance. If you have direct sunlight + 8 to 12 hours of artificial lighting, too little or no CO2, too little ferts and no cooling of course you get algae.
