Could you pin this comment to the top? I am always looking for the "Wir eilen" duett and the time links are so helpful. Thank you so much for what you are doing!!! It's a gift to humanity!
No group does Bach as beautifully as the Netherlands Bach Society. Every one of your performances is thrilling.. Many thanks from a very delighted Amerian listener.
To think that, for a few years, Bach had to write something like this every week! The duet "Wir eilen" is absolutely gorgeous. I am obsessed with this UA-cam channel.
Not only compose it, had it copied by his students, rehearsed it with the singers and musicians and then perform it. This is impossible for humans... except for J. S. Bach.
Hard to believe that he composed this on a Monday and Tuesday, got his family to write it out, rehearsed it on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and then they performed it on Sunday. Then started a new one on Monday and repeat over 200! He da Man! 😎 This performance is amazing! 😍
Hard to believe because it could not have happened the way you describe. It takes a college choir 4-8 weeks to rehearse one Bach cantata. Surely Bach did NOT perform a new cantata every Sunday. He had administrative duties and private lessons to give. He didn't just sit around composing new cantatas. He could not depend on the poor resources of the Thomas-Schule and town musicians. Like his predecessor Johann Kuhnau, Bach depended on talented students from the university to perform his cantatas and even offered them free music lessons in exchange for their participation in the performances.
@@herrickinman9303 There were very few rehearsals. The performances were probably not as perfect as those we are used to in our day and age; on the other hand musicians were trained differently precisely for that purpose. In many instances we know when Bach got the libretto from the poet, when it was approved by the ecclesiastical authorities, and when the cantata was finally played. So this is not a matter of 'it could not have happened', it's more a matter of 'how could it have happened the way it has'. During the first two years in Leipzig, Bach produced 100 cantatas. Hard to imagine how he could have dedicated 4 weeks to each of them! The rehearsals took place on saturday, one day before the religious service.
I first heard this cantata when I was taking an introduction to music course and had to write a paper on it. I sat in our music library for hours listening to it over and over again. I had never heard anything as exquisite as the second movement, the duet.
If any one needs proof of God listen to this heavenly music. Such perfection. Bach was the God's stenographer, and the Netherlands Bach Society is reciting it for the world to hear. Such incredibly vibrant performances. That the land of Spinoza and Rembrandt gives us such glorious sounds. Bravo!

Wederom geweldig!
Opname 1961. Op de andere kant het Magnificat. Prachtige plaat.
En nu, zie, weer een prachtige uitvoering. Jah, Richter was niet 'authentiek'. Who cares.
One of the most underrated cantatas by JSB
Magnificent cantata. Deeply inspires the religious spirit of those who hear it. Only an unique and genius musical like Bach could compose so sublime cantata. The voices are outstanding and the orchestration perfect. Thanks for these moments of unbelievable joy and pleasure.
Meravigliosa esecuzione di una sublime cantata. Il mio grande Bach! Soli Dei Gloria!!
Magnifico, maestoso Bach!
Gracias Netherlands Bach Society!
C'est magnifique. Bach a crée Dieu
What's not to love about this ?... Is it the fragrant duett full of butterflies swinging from flowers to flowers or the majestic choral embracing a delightfull devotion... God or not...? Let's just say this: "chapeau bas !..."
Bravo , bravissimo !
