    Another way to hide screws is by removing a factory screw from the hinges and replace with a 3". Also keeps your hinges from sagging over time

      I was gonna say the same thing but seen you beat me to it. Most doors come with 1 hinge screw missing already on each hinge to put a longer screw in it. Throw a quick clamp up on the header and you don't have to mess with an air bag. It keeps the frame flush to the wall too 🤣

    Next on your list should be a laser level. As someone who installs lots of doors I'm going to say a laser is my number 1 tool that's sped up installation. I have some of these and they're nice as a pair of helping hands to keep you from fumbling so much, not having to reach back and forth for a level is a huge time saver. I still check the hinge side of the jambl and the threshold with a good old Stabila but 90 percent of the time no more adjustment is needed after just using a laser. Trim screws are also pretty high on my list for installing exterior doors.

    7:17 I would also recommend installing a jamb brace or a piece of aluminum between the door casing and the framing. Drill out a hole for the deadbolt and add a deadbolt sleeve over the door edge (the door itself) where the bolt extends from the door into the casing. The reason for this is the deadbolt will still hold but the aluminum door will literally peel away from the center core and will allow entry. The deadbolt sleeve will hold the door together under the stress along with the jamb brace and will successfully secure your house. I have taken so many burglary reports where this has happened so I hope this helps anyone out there and prevents them from having to go through the devastation of having their privacy and belongings violated. Also use steel lag bolts or screws that will bite into the door frame for added strength.

    Great stuff, made it look easy and it's because I've made the same errors but it needed some reinstalling:
    1. Before you set the door in the space, put your level up and around on the framing to visualize how the framing is "trapezoiding" so that you don't end up pulling the jamb out of square when you set your (anchoring) screws. That way, you can put a shim behind the door jamb at your screw location and the jamb will stay square. Likewise on the deadbolt strike plate screws.
    2. As a Canuckistanian, am sure you are more familiar with Roberts drive than Phillips screws. Phillips work fine because as you demonstrated in your video, a more "cam-out resistant" head can cause breakage if you aren't deliberate while you are driving it; but you need the right size phillips bit tip and you need to drive it straight into the head of the fastener. Inevitably, you'll need to use Phillips head, unfortunately or not, and being specific instead of just saying you hate 'em repeatedly helps to keep from camming out (some people say "stripping" the head).
    3. If you aren't concerned about fasteners with a different head, you can set longer screws through the empty hinge plate holes on the hinge side, also a good way of hiding your anchors when you don't have weather stripping.
    Right on Vancouver Carpenter, and I appreciate your Adidas Superstars too.

    In my experience with Phillips head screws going into wood, drill a pilot hole and reap the rewards. They should be Robertson in my opinion, a superior screw. You might want to check out the documentary on the Robertson screw, it’s quite interesting.

    • @joansparky4439

      Sqaure heads (that's what they are called over here in Oz) are as useless as Philips.
      Same for the internal hex ones..
      Best grip are the ones with Torx drive.

    • @Zak6959
      @Zak6959 3 роки тому

      It’s a matter of experience and cost of tools you already own. They did not have a bits back in the day like they do today. Impact drivers have a square drive just like a Robertson head screwdriver does. Also it depends upon the application of the fastener. If it’s in wood plastic etc. I have no problem with either of them. But if it’s in steel, aluminum etc., that makes the difference.

      I use them for that and they are great. With many commercial doors, the frame gets installed on its own then the door is attached to the hinges. I sit the door where I want it, then put the bag right under the centre and use my foot to pump it like he did. It easily lifts the entire door until the hinges line up. Both steel doors and the commercial grade solid-core wood doors which are over 100lbs each.

    First, realy like following you and you and have shown m new ways to do things, like the Supertaper. They do not have them here in Norway, so the company that importa Columbia has taken in a few and we are now testing it for them.
    Althoug the Airbag is a good help, the Viking arm is probably better.
    Here we always take the door out of the frame, The hindges for both interior and exterior door are easy to do this with. What I would recomens is using Essve frame scews, Once they are fully screwed into the frame, you can adjust the frame to the inside since they both pull and push. I use the type with. the larger head, most frames come pre drilles but also have a counter sink drill if not. Then plug the hole with a plastic plug. They also have with a smaller head that can easilybe tucked under the weather stripping.
    The screws are also great if you are straightning up a wall instead of using shims.
    I too am both a carpenter and painter.
    Great videos and keep up the good work.

    • @Drunken.Kitten
      @Drunken.Kitten 3 роки тому +1

      Doors come with 3" #8/#10 install screws most time or just use a standard construction screw. When drilled in middle and away from the edge of the wood it will never split. Being so close to the edge is what causes lumber to split, the force of the screws is sent up the grain and with noting to stop it it will snap off towards the edge.

    Leave the door in the jamb, lay it down, and case the outside prior to install. Place the cased door and jamb in the rough opening, nail the casing to the jack/trimmer stud. Much faster, easier, and no need for the Winbag.

    I also install 3" screws on the hinge side of the door after seeing a video of someone kicking in a door at the hinges.

      Same thing for the striker plate. I drill a pilot hole first to prevent splitting the stud and/or the door jamb.

    I need that bag. I had to install doors without help. The doors are not level still.
    I would have drilled for the screws first though.

    Hi! :) You lack a video of how to make window frames / windowsill / linings with only drywall and no lists! how to mud that? and this has become so popular esp here in Norway. Can you make the video?

    You don't need to remove the weather stripping. Put the long screws in the hinge hole nearest the middle of the jamb. Save time. Those little bags are indispensable for solid core doors.
