    He did not build it, the Soviet internet infrastructure was already being built by the 80s and already in 1990 the Soviet Union had a vast network of intranet solutions throughout the country, the ground work was already there, Soviet Union had some of the most talented and well educated software engineers and computer engineers in the entire world at the time, the internet was merely just an extension to their already well established intranet network that had been in development since the late 50s

      He was 6 when the family immigrated to the states, so yeah he's American. 😄

    He didn't build "Russian Internet". The government and military network was built in Soviet Union in later 1960-s, based on own protocols and mainframes.

    I can see the controllability of the local servers but it seems to sacrifice its reach outside Russia. Its good if you don't want the USA on those servers as the USA is already implemented global server surveillance. Seems more defensive and controlling local information is just an added bonus.

    Wait, what? I was in Russia in 2002. Everyone had internet. Even their cellphones worked in subways. In the US the phones still don't work in tunnels... but somehow Bloomberg guy here says only 9% of russians had internet in 2004?! Looks like like I stumbled onto one of those fake news things... and that LADA car model they showed is from early 70's not early 2000's... why would he have a car like that?

      That's besides the point. I'm questioning how you know the Russians were more than 9% connected. But as for the US, I'm sure the country was at least 66% connected, even back in 2002. And yes, even Oklahoma is probably more than 90% connected today.
