You guys remind me of when i was young. I just found your channel. Glad you are doing it. I just sold my business and all i own and will be adventuring again shortly. I am fortunate to retire at 50. Enjoy it while you are young.
What a gift, Pirate Sassafras- thank you! So many favorite moments, had to watch twice! I am so looking forward to your upcoming GGR video updates! I dig your spirit and creativity!
Can’t love this enough! An amazing journey, and the creative way you produced the video makes the narrative even more intimate and compelling. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more voyages!
Congratulations on your Passage. And y’all did an amazing job working together. Oh I almost forgot HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! You will love it there in the French Polynesia.
Very Nice Video. Good Editing. Loved the N 0.00.000 shot,, obviously proved you were at the equator. These were good times that will be remembered forever by all the crew. Today is Dec 30,,,,,,, Happy New Year.
Sassafras - you are a complete and utter JOY to watch (and a pisser to boot!) and mermen - y'all ain't bad yourselves not to mention easy on the eyes - Darcee
Enjoyed the video though in the beginning it said "destination" Tuamotus... I may have missed/skipped a few minutes of viewing. Did you decide to bypass those atolls or not get quite far enough East to swing by them? Back in 1977 I did Hilo to Marquesas, Tuamotus, and Tahiti.... Where do you go next? I'm always wondering, what do you do for navigation if you lose all electrics including radio and GPS? We had neither back then, but cracked open a step by step instruction book with forms to fill in. Plus we had very high quality sextants. Managed to find HIva Oa on the 23rd day. Having no bananas on board probably helped us. But also no cold beer... due to lack of power for a refrigerator. That sail was my first time ever on a sail boat...and my last time...but truly one of the best adventures of my life. Puts the oceans in perspective, something you don't get flying over them in jets, while watching a movie. Will subscribe to learn of the next destination.
Hi! We aborted the Tuamotus after there was the electrical fire so we ended up going direct to Papeete, but I did sail to the Tuamotus after I got things fixed in Tahiti. Apologies for not mentioning that in the video. I didn’t lose my electronics, but if I did I also have a sextant and now I am talking a second celestial navigation course
Well I can’t remember exactly where I learned to do it, one of my mystical friends taught me. I was told recently that I do it slightly wrong because you are supposed to ask the pendulum to stop motion in between questions. But it really has guided me a lot. On the way to Hawaii I lost the use of my engine and was low on batteries so I couldn’t keep any of my systems on. Including my navigation lights, which were LED at the time. At night I would pray and then use the pendulum to ask if I needed to turn on my navigation lights. Every night it said no except for one night and that night I woke up to another vessel passing me within 1 NM. It was a no moon night and without the lights it could have been disastrous.
Hi! Thanks for watching. Yea, the sail from Hawaii to French Polynesia is not a downwind trip. You have to make a lot of easting before the equator, only then can you fall off the wind but not by much only down to a beam :)
another great adventure olivia!…i still love you! how do you manage without a dodger?…that panda is really a sweet stout little yacht…good job to the capable crew…bungies on the fruit hammock…real aloe vera plant aboard for burns / …limes and jalapeños for ceviche…cilantro …i cried when bananas got tossed … epic video!…xo
Awe! Thank you for watching and for all the hot tips! Yes to bungies in the hammocks! I have been using string to weave the tops closed but it ain’t working. Aloe! I wish! If I could get a plant to sit still and survive onboard I’d have a whole garden! Even at anchor mine die, but I promise I have a very green thumb on shore. Sorry about the bananas 😬
i shoulda known you have it all covered…but maybe i’ll send you a real banana hammock that i don’t wear anymore since getting arrested at a hotel for wearing …i didn’t know there was a front and back to these things … you know i still love you O!… A
Hahaha 😂 oh noooo not the bananas 😮I brought a banana flavored candy once on a trip in Oz and the captain could smell it and instantly told me to throw it away asap then blamed me that we didn’t catch fish cuz the fact it was banana flavored 😂
Just had a second look at this: thank you for turning film/video back into an artform again. Vestiges of that Maya Deren influence is still there, I'm expecting doo-wop to blindside me at any segue, the editing is tight and the color grading (are you doing that?) looks good. That NY accent -- oh my God -- it's not just the accent, it's that detached boredom nuance that only a New Yorker could recognize. And, oh yeah, the sailing thing was cool too!
Awe! Thank you for watching it again! Haha blindsided by doo-wop. I do the color grading in premiere pro. There is a lut that I use in there then i pump up the saturation and contrast, sometimes adding more black. Each clip takes me about 5 minutes max to fine tune color-wise, so it’s a bit time consuming, but I’m obsessed with color so in the end it’s worth it :)
Oh no! and did you stay on board? I guess you did but found out later that you could have squeezed yourself out (not sure if it is the right english expression) without troubles as polynesian coast guard are not US coast guards. Thank you to have put together the video of the crossing. Good that all of you three got on together so well. I imagine the highlight of the smell of a fresh loaf of bread coming out from the oven. Bravo, you have done it!!!!...from these islands my prefered one is Huahine but i think from your personnality and your taste, you will like most Bora Bora....you even look like this island. Let's see....after the repairs.
Honestly they just stay in good condition, I use them, wash them with regular water, dry them immediately and stow them in a cabinet below the stove. The bottom of one has some rust spots but for the most part they are perfect!

@@wildernessofwaves Been in 35 knots on a whale watching trip in 2002 with Prince of whales with green water covering the windows .Don't think we will push it that hard on the sail trip but we will rock. Going to have to work of Christmas and New years gluten and walk my as of as its like pulling a mussel lifting my legs over the station's Happy New Year .
Just found your channel. Loved it…. loved the chatter and personality and humour and pendulum of Olivia. Loved the added chemistry of Silva and Josh! What a wonderful way to passage plan: swing s pendulum. I’m going to do that Excellent presentation. And not over the top! ⛵️
Awe thank you so much for sailing along! I’m so happy you are digging the content. Pendulums are the best! I’ve got an amethyst one and a rose quartz one!
You did hear diesel sounds sometimes because i only had 200 watts of solar and on days when there wasn’t sun I had to use the alternator on the engine to charge the batteries. We also used the engine a couple of times to power the boat when there wasn’t wind, but that was rare as we had good winds most of the way. You can check out my sailing blog which chronicles my journey day by day if you want to know more of the nitty gritty.
>>>>> If you feel like you're going crazy it's probably bcuz U are sleep deprived. I would like to see the guys allow U to skip 1 or 2 shifts to make sure U can get enough sleep, otherwise, mistakes can be made, that could cost someone their life.
This is the only crossing I did with crew, the rest have been solo (9k + NM alone), I got way more rest than ever before which was awesome! But agree maybe a schedule with shorter watches at night would be good!
Considering Neptune’s origins i believe he loves wine because Romans didn’t drink rum or spirits, they drank wine or mead rather. The ancient offerings would have been closer to the wine I had vs rum
@@wildernessofwaves Well said! BUT tens of thousands of liters of wine sank to the bottom of the sea during and after the Hellinc wars. Barbary pirates turned rum as the offering, western countries followed. Remember Poseidon was the precursor of Neptune.... Like your ideas and channel 👍🇺🇸
Fun....total bucket of junk but it did it :)) Why couldn't you leave the boat till Monday? Some matrix customs garbage? Great vid :)) Better than all the glossy ego ones....felt psycadelic in places :)
Yay, I am so happy you liked it! Well it’s because customs wasn’t open until Monday, so there we were, on land but still shackled to the boat. Thank you so much for sailing along!
Hi, thank you so much for watching! I don’t have a generator. I use the alternator on the engine to charge batteries when there isn’t enough sun for the solar. The engine is right under the companionway steps and it’s pretty loud when I’m close to it. I have some of the heat proof foam padding (not sure of technical name) on the walls surrounding it but could probably use some more
