I've been hunting for 40yrs. I've hunted with and without bait. Bottom line you hold the does the big bucks will come. Bait and food plots keep does and provide nutrition. Big bucks will go to both breeding the does. I have the bucks on my wall to prove my theory.
I went deer hunting for the first time in my life last year at 58 years old using a crossbow on public land in OK. I sat on a small swivel chair right in the middle of a food plot of winter wheat. The food plot had a small island in the middle that had two large trees with some reeds between them. I sat in the reeds between the two trees, the reeds were not dense and I broke off their tops so that I could shoot over them unobstructed, so I wasn't exactly super hidden, just quiet and still. A young buck wandered into the plot a little before 8am on a crisp Nov morning and literally walked right in front of me no further than seven feet away. I let him walk past me to about a 15-17ft distance and I took him. Maybe I was lucky, but the 'You don't see bucks on food plots" claim wasn't true in my first season of hunting.
Ha! Where we hunt in middle GA we see all types of bucks on our food plots and now plots and corn piles. Yeah usually the bigger bucks use those areas at night until the rut kicks in. But they still come to them and will grab a few bites while they are there. This morning (110224) at 8:00 am had a big six, at 8:02 am an eight pointer and at 8:42 am the ten point walked out and ate and of course I had decided to stay home this morning. The ten looks every bit of 6.5 years old, today was the first day time pictures we have gotten of him this year. The last doe picture from that food plot with some corn on it was at about 4:00 am.
Very interesting subject. When you have a group that hunts together, you should have study periods and rules that teach each individual in the group tactics that those in the club possess who have experience. All of you possess a great amount of knowledge but you probably don't share with your buddies. Most hunters like to think that they are the masters and everyone else doesn't have their abilities. When I was growing up it was considered murder to shoot over corn. You had to work really hard to get that doe or buck for the dinner table. But times have changed, and deer are more plentiful. Enjoyed your subject.
Wana bet. My boss shoots monsters off corn piles every year! Got a 170inch beast last year. The bucks dont come to the corn , they come to the does thst are eating the corn. 🤷♂️
I hunt a small 15 acre plot in my back yard... (central Alabama) ... I have about 3-5 resident does that either bed on my land or just off it on the neighbors behind me... From time to time I will have a young buck or two, hang around on my plot but then move on... I feed my does all throughout the season... When the rut hits, you better be on that corn pile... The bucks will come cruise my 15 acres for 2 weeks.... Last season I harvested a 5 point, 8 point and 6 point from same stand, same plot, in a 6 day span...
Similar setup here. 22 wooded acres in NE Ohio. Small 1/4 acre food plot and corn fed during season. Does all over property and have seen 8-12 point bucks almost yearly. I hunt sparingly and always get lot of action each year.
@@SilverBulletNationParents have a small Parcel and have had it for 18 years now. I just went in this summer and started feeding and set up a cell camera. Multiple bucks and does with twins etc. not going to fool with these deer Except to feed until next season. Started pumping Protein and Corn to them just curious what these bucks will turn into, got a 9,3-6points multiple 4’s and a few spikes So dar
I hunt 25 acres but have some huge multi 100 acre lots around me that are very covered. Wind always makes it very difficult for me to even access my spot so it's tough. Lots of does and big bucks but the bucks spook EASY. Frustrating 😆
People give way to much credit to deer. It’s a deer there not capable of critical thinking eventually they all fuck up it’s just a matter of you being there when they do.
Yup. But you can over sit a stand or property and make them want to stay away. But yes . If there in your area. They will likely fuck up. Whatever the situation.
They will mess up. But they won't be messing up around you if your sitting in the same spot every hunt. They will be 400 yards bedded chewing there cudd knowing exactly where your at relaxing watching his does.
I used to hunt on a lease with a bunch of corn sitters. I have sat in the distance and seen many bucks come in around 100 or 150 yards downwind of a corn feeder set up and wait to until dark before getting closer.
Not only losing the use of vast tracts of hunting grounds but the complete loss and obliteration of the ecology in the area..all for this useless misguided garage. It is actually complete madness. It will never balance out. It will never pay for itself and nothing will ever grow or live on it of any consequence.
I had a buck that I chased for 3 years and I think he end up dying. He got so old, just a tank of a deer and I live in North Florida and we don't get too many of those here lol, the only thing I can think of is that he'd been shot or shot at over a bait pile and lived. He would come into corn every single night and I would see him in the mornings. He would want to come in and he would walk around looking at his corn pile but he would never step in the open in the daytime around that corn pile
I like opinionated titles. Gets the blood boiling. Just because someone did a study doesn't mean it's findings are 100% accurate. I've take several big (not 160+) bucks on tiny food plots. Rape turnip has worked well for me in a short pine row near a well used trail at least 50 yards from a pond or creek. One in particular, didn't really need a tractor, 3 does watched me till it up for 20 minutes. When someone tells you you can't, it means they can't.
@@charlessmith7649not quite that long but..yes long and yes not cold. These deer..and they are many, are educated and it's thick..but it all boils down to hunting pressure and human interaction . Every area is different thou.

Wednesday has always been the best when it comes to public land hunting.

This may be true in the south, but here in Wisconsin Kern and food plots are the only way you'll see a deer.
Hopefully, westervelt don't sell all your hunting lease to solar companies like they did to us. They wiped out 5k acres.
Same in Cicero, NY. It ruined alot of different hunting opportunities

We kill big bucks on food plots? Is the title a joke
I agree but I think ( maybe wrong) but there season is like 5+ months so no wonder why? It's not to cold down there like it is in the north
