    I am neat picking but , in order for your torque to be accurate the wrench handle and torque wrench must be in straight alignment. Otherwise the length from your grip to the center of the axis of the nut will change. Torque is measured weight over distance. Or in this instance pounds over feet. Good video

      In this application it is not that important. tighter is really better within reason.

      Actually everyone says 90 degrees between torque wrench and nut wrench.....

    Did you thread the bolt handle?
    Is your torque wrench set to 70 ft lbs? Did you compensate for the center to center distance on the wrench?

      good n snug is all you need..... use the torque on the scope rings and bases always deburr the rings remove all sharp edges or it will dig into your scope
