When I riders to Morocco later this year, I'll be taking an old wallet with expired cards and £50 cash in to give away to any robber instead of my real wallet. I'll also have emergency cash in a money belt but most incidents don't happen when you expect them.

i stopped at bourke on the way back from the simpson desert on my bike. i watched two off lead dogs fight in the street and stop traffic, a couple having a yelling match stop briefly to talk to some friends then continue yelling, a drug deal and an all in brawl of 6 women and 6 men. all while getting fuel and a pluto pup for lunch at the servo before leaving.

Quite a few country towns have these type of issues. Won’t get media covering it as it is offensive to some and you get extreme idiots with cancel culture wanting to argue about something they know nothing about.

    • @HerMotorcycleAdventures
      @HerMotorcycleAdventures  3 роки тому +7

Yep. Which is exactly why it's really hard to find truthful media about Bourke. It's suppressed. A few days before I was there a tourist was bashed over the head with a golf club. Not one word in any media. It's not only infuriating, it's dangerous. People end up wondering into these towns with little idea of reality.

There is a camping park just out of town, not far from the steam boat ride, we was told to camp out there out of town by the police,
So we did, no phone reception, 3 original people’s came out that night in a beat up old Ute, demanding we give them out keys to our motorhome
      Or we get killed.....
A local turned up to see if we was ok, fired his riffle , the 3 guys scrambled back to there Ute and fled, we then was escorted to the steam boat location.
People have been unlucky and lost there van, tow car, cash and shoes.
There is another town east of Burke on the same river, very bad as well and the local police saved us just in time ,
They routinely patrol the camp at the river.
See these towns and the originals people have also a drug problem, there in debt to there eye ball to there dealer and we tourist are a means
To get some easy cash. Cars, caravans, motor bikes, all easily disappear never to bee seen again, and they may have only gotten a couple hundred bucks off in credit from there dealer, so there back out again, Your not dealing with stupid ones,
As there already locked up, You get done by a well seasoned pro with a drug habit that needs to be fuelled.
And some of the whites will do you over as well, as they also suffer the addiction and no cash syndrome,
Dealers just love giving credit, then you owe them, steal for them.
      Stay safe

I grabbed some footage, refueled, got food then found myself face to face with a 'not so nice' man. I couldn't believe my luck! Or lack of it more accurately!😐 By the time the sun went down, I was in Queensland. Pondering if I should invest in a car. A big one. I enjoyed your story, and am glad you weren't hurt in addition to being robbed. I also do solo rides here in the US, and can tell you that senior men are also seen as a soft target. Quite a few times I've been 'bullied' for money, and have had one outright attempted robbery. I know it must seem cold blooded, but have you considered carrying a lethal weapon and getting some pro training with it? I find that having them is very comforting while travelling...like having fire extinguishers, or any other safety device. In our more dangerous areas, I even carry a 11"blade bowie knife on my belt as a deterrent. I realize the law sometimes frowns on self defense, but as they say, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Safe travels to you pretty woman.

Couple of queries 1) Are you being 'PC' by NOT stating the ACTUAL problem? - 2) You push the female aspect - Would a male rider have fared any better? ... 3) Police response?
Unfortunately, you'll likely experience 'similar' variations of your 'incident the further North/North West that you venture. Bike security (and associated belongings) is a real problem with the 'locals'.

Hi Sidney! 1)Sadly we live in a world in which delving much deeper into the topic could place the chanel at risk. As a channel creator there's strict protocols that need to be adhered to. I purposely stuck to the key points and let people draw their own conclusions. 2)I guess I can't help but see things from the perspective of a female, but yes, since posting this, I have learned of many similar situations involving men. I believe I was seen as a soft target. I'd barely got off my bike. 3)Yer, about police response, I opted to keep that to myself. I genuinely believe they feel just as frustrated as me.
Ultimately, I'm not a weak individual. I've spent a good amount of time in troubled places around the world, so I can't say that I was surprised. Ultimately there was little I could have done to protect myself further than I had. Hopefully I can steer clear of this kind of stuff moving forward.👍

Prior to covid starting in really early 2020, myself and my dog, would go outback on my bicycle, touring, and camping. Some mighty long journeys. Western NSW but mostly up to western QLD and into eastern NT. Never did we have any problems with locals. The only problems we had were cars, and caravans, getting way to close to us when passing us. Do I go out there, with protection, of course I do, but as of yet have not had to use it in 6 years of outback tripping. Most of my outback trips are between 1500 - 5000km, and we have been lucky so far. You would be much safer on a motorbike or car then on a bicycle, so I would not be worried at all. Just take notice of warnings and use your better judgement, especially those inclings of "this is not safe, I think I will leave" type thoughts. They are the right thoughts to have and listen to them when they come along. It is very safe in Australia, just be careful when riding on the road mixing with traffic.

Hi Ric thanks for your response, being of vintage age I don't have the physical strength to defend myself anymore but was looking at some sort of "attitude adjuster" to take with me and level the playing field should things go bad that would have some calibre of influence, if you get my drift. I will probably be doing the trip around Oz on my own so I do have some safety concerns. That's why I'm following these adventure riders to glean as much as I can about their experiences. I'm not afraid to be on my own but I take your point about listening to that sixth sense and won't have any hesitation in continuing on if I don't feel good about a place to camp for the night. Ric you must be very fit to be cycling those distances, you have my admiration for doing so. Thanks. I have to admit I was pretty angry for a while. It took me a while to be level headed! 😁

Hi Gwyneth I feel sad this happened to you and hope you were able to report this crime. The person guilty is probably a drug addict and will continue to do the same thing to others. I wish you a safe trip to follow your video clips are fun to watch. Stay upright chick and get yourself a Triumph I have an 800cc 2012 XC model plenty of grunt and great for the trails. I wish you the best of luck for the rest of your trip .Stay safe

In regard to your description of the person who robbed me. I reckon you'd be quite accurate. It certainly wouldn't surprise me. 😁 I'm certainly going to need a new bike. However since I'm a little penned in with these border restrictions, I've opted to put meatier tyres on the GS500 for the immediate future, with an eye on a bike update when needed. I'm really curious to see how they perform!

I'll let you use your discernment on that. I don't want to turn this into a political hot potato. But....it is definitely a fair use warning.

It was all over pretty quick. I wasn't going to agitate him. Just give him the money. I do have a feeling he's done this before. It seemed well rehearsed.
