Please raise a glass for my grandfather. He passed on Sunday from pancreatic cancer at age 70. A true mentor. Taught me how to drink hard liquor neat. He liked Tequila and Rum. I went with a Rum finished Balvenie 14. He left behind a legacy of happiness that is truly unrivaled. Thank you fellow MBs. His name was Antonio Herdocia. Her-doe-see-uh.
I've never drank a drop of whisky, but you two are SO GOOD, I watch you every chance I get! Thanks for the fabulous education in economics history--I'm loving Daniel month!!!--and for the hilarity!
My brother also has Aspergers. He's 35 so the experiences are a bit different at this stage, but having grown up with him, and then later worked in mental health and disability services, I can tell you that while support isn't what it should be (you're probably aware), it's SO much better than it used to be. You know how to find me if you want to talk.
I have an unopened bottle of the beast. May have to open 'er up. Oh, and I like Dalmore when properly presented. Sadly official bottlings aren't. (normally)
Douglas Laing also does some fantastic single cask, cask strength bottlings labeled "Old Particular". There is a local shop in the SF Bay Area that offers some superb exclusive store bottlings that are usually better than any official bottlings from the distillery. Recently I had a Highland Park 20 Year Old and a Bowmore 20 Year Old that were to die for!
1) David Tennant was my favorite Doctor. 2) Tyrion Lannister would be the one fictional character I'd have a glass of whiskey with. No contest there. Keep up the great content, gentlemen!
Leave it to Psmith! I am so happy to hear Wodehouse mentioned here. 'Leave it to Psmith' was my first introduction to him, and to this day he remains my favorite comic author. No one else warms the cockles of my heart quite like Wodehouse.
I love the Epicurean, I always get fresh cut grass and brown sugar from it. I get brown sugar from every Douglas Laing actually, especially The Gauldrons. Really wanna try the cask strength Epicurean.
Tom Baker was the best for me. Several favorites as everyone! I kept seeing the Epicurean at the store and never pulled the trigger. Thanks for the review!
As if I needed anymore reasons to love y'all, here I find out y'all are Whovians as well ❤️ Peter Capaldi became my favorite for that very reason, Daniel. I love them all, but his Doctor really resonated with me.
Capaldi is great Dr Who ... For me, there was no really bad Doctor, maybe Im not that fan of 3rd, but otherwise I like them all. And also the laydy at the moment is doing good job in my opinion.
You should totally review Glen Garioch 12, it's an extremely characterful malt. An advanced drinker's whisky. And as someone else already pointed out, it's pronounced glen geer-ee.
Any plans to review Mortlach? Their relaunched lineup is much more affordable than the previous releases and the 16 Distiller's Dram is just fantastic!
Thought I'd ask the community. I'm finally going to splurge on a fancier bottle. Now, currently it is between Hibiki Harmony and Longmorn 16. Now the Japanese whiskey scene is completely new to me and holds a certain level of novelty, which is intriguing. But I've heard so many good things about Longmorn.. Brace yourselves.. in my country the Hibiki, is 85e and 96 for the Longmorn. Thoughts?
Wow, those prices are making me green with envy! What a tough decision to make though. The Longmorn 16 is rich, full bodied, and quite complex. It's comparable to the Glenlivet 18 or even the 21. The Hibiki Harmony is lighter and friendlier (as Rex would say), with more orange/citrus and cinnamon/black pepper flavours. It's an easy sipper. I would say go with the Hibiki Harmony just because its so hard to find for a reasonable price. They are both great whiskies though, enjoy whichever one you pick!
@@greg_d90s Yeah, the Longmorn is not the old heavily revered one. Which makes me lean towards Hibiki.. But thanks anyway. W8 ur saying it's cheaper than for you? What country are you from?
@@biffii5568 Ah I see. The new Longmorn 16 is still great but I would definitely take the Hibiki Harmony over it. The Hibiki is just one of those blended whiskeys that you have to buy when you see it plus it has splendid flavour. I live in Canada, specifically Ontario. Prices and availability are pretty mediocre here. Everything is sold through one store called the LCBO, which is provincial regulated and basically a government endorsed monopoly. The only way to get better prices or more selection is to go to the States or cross provincial borders (LCBO only operates in Ontario), both of which involve many hours of travel. Here are some current prices to give you an idea of things for us: Dalmore 12 - $100.00 CAD Lagavulin 16 - $130.00 CAD Aberlour 12 - $69.95 CAD Talisker 10 - $110.95 CAD Ardbeg 10 - $100.10 CAD Oban 14 - $115.99 CAD Glenlivet 18 - $149.95 CAD Monkey Shoulder - $69.95 CAD You get the idea :(
@@greg_d90s Very similar prices! Finland, has the same deal in regards to alkohol distribution. 1 Monopoly and it's expensive, however, decent assortment if you're in big cities.
I know this is old but you really should try the Gauldrons. It's Campbeltown so you know it's most likely Glen Scotia predominantly but damn is that good. I haven't yet tried The Epicurean (always tempted by it).
Hello Rex and Daniel, I’ve been watching your show for a couple of months now and absolutely love it. There is no better show with both knowledge and expertise as well as humor anywhere else on the internet. I have a quick question what is your opinion on investing in rare whisk[e]ys or 001 barrel releases? I have a 001 bottle of Stranahan’s Sherry Cask and don’t know if I should save it or enjoy it’s sweet sweet nectar.
You should definitely try Douglas Laings "Rock Oyster"! My favourite from the same range of "regional malts". Its just lovely - touch of smoke to keep it interesting but not overwhelming like Big Peat (also nice one but not as refined)
Got my first bottle of Laphroaig yesterday. The Quarter Cask was on for $8 off locally in Ontario ($72). Oh lord I'm BUYING THIS AGAIN. I had at one time suggested Alberta Premium Dark Horse. I now feel that it is entirely Vanilla Candy and uninteresting except that its 45%.
Guys, there is a "cheap" blend you need to try. The Queen Margot from the Lidl supermarket in the UK. It has been blended under the guidance of Richard Paterson. It is pretty good.
I recently watched the `Rock Oyster Blended Malt Scotch, Douglas Laing` and his video. I picked up both the Rock Oyster and the Timorous Beastie. I am glad both bottles were only $35 each. I was not impressed at all with the Timorous Beastie after trying it a few times over a weeks time. If you are into young highlands and distilleries like Macallan and Glenlivet, it might be for you. But, was a hard pass for me and wish I would have skipped or possibly gone for the Epicurean. Disclaimer, I do really enjoy some highlands like Benromach, Glendronach, Aberlour, and Benriach to name a few. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by the Rock Oyster. I left additional thoughts on the other video's page.
Hello you S blended people. Why you only drink out of a Glencairn? I have them myself. But I sudgest maybe try or talk about diffrent kind of whiskey glasses. For example the Norlan whiskey glass maybe? Im a bit curious if you could do a comparision? Thanx for your channel :-)
yeah, talking too quickly means I skip over what I meant to say. The larger production in my head with distilleries that share whisky for blending are almost entirely coming from Glenkinchie and Auchentoshan. Bladnoch is contributing some as well, but Annandale is mostly focused on building up stocks. Daftmill is a baby, and so is "Glasgow Distillery". You are 100% correct thought. Lowland distilleries are growing every year! Great news IMO.
Im probably bigger fan of Laings blended malts then Compass box. Their price point fits me better. Have Big peat christmas at the moment and it is one hell of whisky, at cask strength for 50 something. Yay
I've got a weird pairing that works way too good. My Favourite of the remarkable regional Malts is the Timorous Beastie. Had a Sample Pack once and also i am a Peathead the Beastie took home the Medal. ALSO! It works way too good with white asparagus and Sauce Hollandaise. Can't wait for asparagus Season.
Breaking out the Dr. Who you fricking MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS! I was lucky enough to get into that years ago from a co-worker, it's been a wild ride ever since! :D
"Amaretto pound cake in a greenhouse." You should trademark that name so you can claim royalties from the scotch malt whisky society when they inevitably use it as the name of one of their releases!
I don't know which fictional character to choose, there are too many good choices. I'll say it's a tie between Han Solo just before the beginning of Star Wars Episode IV, and Hunter from The Dear Hunter's main albums, probably during Act 3.
If I had a chance to have dinner with a Dr. Who character it would be the love o my life the illustious (LOL) enigmatic stunning Dr. River Song. Annnnd I know I'm mixing fiction a bit here but, it would be at MILLIWAYS (the Restaurant at the end of the Universe) along with Ford, Arthur, and those. Oh and BTW, I am really dating myself here but mr. T.S. Baker is my Dr. of choice with David Tennant a close second .👍
Doctor Who is nothing compaired to "Super Hik", who is a character from a cartoon called Allan Ford which is huge in europe and especially in Italy. To make the long story short he is drhnk all the time and steals from the poor to give to rich! How crazy and awesome is that!

[Squeak], that was hard to boil down...I mean, for [Squeak] sake, Capaldi’s Doctor plays guitar. Also, weirdly enough, Tennant calls Rose a Timorous Beastie in the episode Tooth and Claw.
There are more than two distilleries in the Lowlands... and considering The Epicurean is a blend, it's possible they're using a bit of ghost distillery products See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowland_single_malts for a list of Lowland distilleries

Good job!
I guess your life is now complete. Lol. Maybe you should be a Patreon as well so that can get a bigger still so they can put out more whiskey.
Joe Green I’m broke as a joke, but I’ll try sending a whiskey in time
Peter Capaldi was the older gentleman that played the previous Dr. Who

Yes! P.G. Wodehouse! Love the Jeeves books. I would want to have a drink with Gandalf or Thom Merelin.

Never had bad stuff from Douglas Laing. Thats impossible 😄
