Homelander has a really counter-intuitive idiosyncrasy where he wants people to challenge him rather than simply have a department of yes-men, but he also can't stand it when his authority or image is undermined. He needs to have his ego stroked, but also be advised rather than capitulated to at every turn. It's a knife's edge to walk, and he will more often than not simply co-opt your advice and pervert its intentions for his own ends.

He's DEFINITELY more intelligent than average, season 1 emphasized that. Even here, he figured out exactly what would appeal to Sage enough to get her on The Seven. He's just too heavily ruled by his emotions, which Sage isn't. On top of being much smarter.
I would say homelander is definitely smart he has planned some insane plans in previous seasons such as making super terrorist and outsmarting stan edgar
Does anyone else feel like Joe Kessler is another vision of Butcher's, like Becca? I don't really know why, but it feels that way. Like how he was obscured from the window's view in the breakroom, how Butcher put the alcohol in his drink, how Joe didn't touch his drink. It just gave me The Six Sense vibes.
