You don't look at a draft through the lens of Bedard. You approach the draft to build your team to be a cup champion. The Oilers have approached their team building "around" McDavid and look what that has gotten them so far.
You're not wrong. I still think the biggest need is a forward. Outside of Bedard, do any of our top prospects truly project to be top liners? Nazar and Moore are nice pieces, but realistically 2nd line players. Ivan Demidov would add incredible skill to the line up. Regardless, they will get a great player whichever way they decide to go.
@@blankname6629 I'm aware. None of them project to be elite players. Vlasic is a great shutdown guy, but none of the guys in the pipeline are future #1 D. I'd take Ivan Demidov, but the Michigan State kid would definitely be a great asset, too.

Not enough people are talking about a big name trade. Everyone's pipe dream is Stamkos/Kane, not going to be disappointed if we somehow snag him/them, but we have so much draft capital that we can dish strategically. Looking at teams that need retooling, the Islanders, the Lightning, the Leafs, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in a guy(s) like Barzal, Marner, or Cirelli. People might think they are unmovable but anything is possible.

Why take a gamble on a forward that may or may not pan out when you know you can get a good defenseman right now?
I’m genuinely not positive, but idk if you can just buy a guy out of a KHL contract like that. I know there have been cases where contracts get terminated early in the KHL (even Michkov’s contract might get termed this offseason) but I think you go Demidov regardless. People have likened it to the Pens drafting Crosby then Malkin in back-to-back years, like come on lol
go get marner. he has fallen out of favor in Toronto. article i read from toronto they would be happy for S Jones for Marner. Pull the trigger yesterday
Yea whether it’s Levshunov, Demidov, or anyone else, Celebrini is the only player who should be in the NHL next year. This mindset from Bowman is what (potentially) ruined Kirby Dach and Adam Boqvist’s careers.
Bowman passed on Evan Bouchard and Noah Dobson two of the best young defensemen in the league to draft Boqvist. It looked like a poor decision at the time and looks far worse now.
If I'm not mistaken, both Levshunov & demidov can't play in the NHL until the 25-26 season, they're both locked in for 24/25 already at NCAA/Russia for one more year.
Exactly this team needs to not worry about drafiting top players considering plenty of players drafted in nhl later on are studs but bedard is only 19 id pick up some older bigger players now dhort term kerp bedRd healthy an in about 3 years then stRt spending big on talent let bedard grow rite ow an continue to learn

Totally agree with him on drafting to play immediately and help this team. You CAN'T WAIT for the Russian!! Draft the MSU kid or whichever Forward you think can be in Chicago by mid season.
Move down to 5 with Montreal for the Winnipeg pick and take the best player available at 5. They all work in a rebuild and parlay the two firsts into the top 10 and again take the best available player in a top heavy draft that is thick on authenticity. Good luck Hawks you can't lose a draft this good. 🎨
@@tomrockhill8634 what year of college was Slaggert in? How many years did Nazer play in college? It is very, very rare anyone is drafted and immediately plays in the NHL the following season. If Jason is WAY off, like left field off, then you are somewhere in the lake.
Hawks need to get bigger , they need a star defenceman or a big forward . To me the obvious pick is Levshunov (rare RD with size and skills)or Lindstrom. Yeah i know Demidov is going to be great but you cant have a PP with undersized players like Bedard Nazar

What’s sad is it won’t make a damn bit of difference. Unless the Blackhawks make some major player changes they might pick up two more wins in 2025 with a #2 draft pick. It such a huge waste when these high picks go to shitty teams. Bedard is so small that unless he bulks up he could suffer a career ending injury in any game.
Hawks are going to be bad for the next 5 years if I was the Gm I would try to get as many picks as possible for the next 3-4 years to get assets so they can trade to accelerate their rebuild!
holding steady at #2 is actually a huge win... we had a 72.4% chance of falling out of the top 2
