@@sirmcswagalot6224 A movie like 'The Platform' won't need to exist when we finally become intelligent enough to feel other people's suffering as our own. And that time will surely come in the near future coz working together as a team is the best chance we've got to survive as a species.
Nice analysis. Liked the part about the "boring" things; Ellie thanking him for fulfilling his promise of adventure to her by doing the "boring" things
I'm not crying.... you are! Honestly, this was amazing. I also love breaking down themes in movies and TV shows, but the time and thought you put into this shows through, and I absolutely cannot wait for more.
I hope this movie is never forgotten much like the early 60s, 90s and 2000s classics we still have today. That it may show future dreamers that they too can enact their dreams into reality with their own version of Ellie [fem or male]. This movie inspired me to go to publishing and quit my previous job four years ago. Life has its own little adventures. And surely, when I first saw this movie I wasn't a child I was an adult, and still am, and it made me cry with joy. 😢😢 We all need a version of Ellie in our lives but still know that we can be independent dreamers in this grey, convoluted, crazy world.
I've only seen Up once, and it was a beautiful, emotional experience. I remember feeling quite melancholic at the final shot of the film, I don't think I'd understood how positive it was meant to be. Bittersweet, but beautiful!
I'm the type of viewer that usually just watches, enjoys, and leaves a like on the way out- just wanna hop in the conversation for a second and say I'm glad you're doing this! Looking forward to the next one.
i think you picked a really good idea for this video. these types of docu/analysis videos about movies or shows that people have nostalgia for tend to do very well.
Gosh, I'm SOBBING. Thank you for this. Not only a wonderful analysis (I love video essays), but really, coincidentally striking to me in my personal life. I can't wait to see what you publish next! Thanks SVB
Very well said, my dear. It is an excellent video from an excellent channel. I look forward to seeing your other essays, and I look forward to more excellent analysis.
A really excellent evaluation. I gained appreciation for the movie and never felt like I was sitting through any convoluted overthinking or forced perspective. Reminds of Every Frame a Painting - a piece of art.
Thank you for this. What you did hear was beautiful and some parts that you elaborated on nearly brought me to tears. What you pointed out with many of these symbols I feel have connections to many aspects of everyone’s lives and I can’t wait to see what you bring next!
I've seen this movie several times and you've brought me new appreciation for it. I always think I'm ready for it, except, it's a terrible day for rain.
Believe it or not, it was your reading of the Stone by Stone short story that made me want to check this out and I have to say, I was not disappointed. Not only did you perfectly catch the emotion of the film, you explored several themes that I didn't even think of. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane, and I thank you for that. And I almost made it through the whole thing without tearing up, but that last sentence, "...while she may be gone, their love never will be - and for him, adventure is still out there," really got to me. Manly tears, of course :). Looking forward to more stuff!
You really are a great content creator. You deserve thousands of subscribers . Your voice is so pleasant and nice. Will always continue supporting you!
I absolutely LOVE this video. I am so glad one of the hardest working overwatch content creators is also putting their genius into film analysis! I am so excited for every video to come! Beautiful stuff my man, keep on going :)
From being one of the best Overwatch content creator to being one of the best cinema content creators. This video was amazing, thank you SVB, looking forward to the next one.
Very insightful... we used this movie to demonstrate a spiritual principal at our retreat. But you knocked it out of the park, inspiring more take-aways. Thank you!
What a great way to start the new channel. You got me crying at work. Maybe around the holiday season you could do a video on Klaus. It's not only my new favorite Christmas movie but probably one of the best animated movies to come out in recent years.
I found your channel a few days ago and I've been streaming each video. That is until my best friend Ben saw me crying and asked me 'If it makes you so sad why are you still watching that channel's video?' My reply was 'He is a great storyteller and narrator. He should do voice acting or recording for ebooks' Today I came back for more and I'm fully subscribed. I will be happy to support your work through Patreon. Thank you for the happy tears!
Wow..... Just wow. You did an amazing job with this video, it really shows that you put a lot of work into this. That was honestly quite moving. I knew there was a reason I love your OW content, this just shows you make great content no matter what! I can't wait to see what else you have planned for this channel! Maybe you could take a look at Looper or The Grey, two of my personal favorite films.
Excellent video. This movie is just so beautiful and one of my favorite animated films. Even just watching a video essay about the movie fucks me up emotionally and I teared up several times during the movie.
Even if you've lost someone you loved, you still have 7.67 billion of us to live for and live with. Humans are all there is to humanity. The relationships that we have with our fellow human beings, the bond of love & care that we share with each other as an intelligent species, the work that we do together as a team to ensure the survival and well-being of our species is what ultimately matters.
Geez, even this analysis made me cry!! One detail that I just can't figure out..... Just *who* took the pictures *of* Carl and Ellie during their time together?
Before selfies, stand-alone tripod stands were used for film and photographic cameras. So, I guess it was mounted on a tripod? Or before the beginning of the movie they had Kevin, the bird, take the pictures, he disappeared when Ellie passed away, then Carl forgets about him and Kevin comes back into the frame when it needs to be saved by Muntz. So... many questions.
that was a fantastic start to your new channel, svb! been sitting here with tears in my eyes for most of it because that’s what UP does to me, especially when you so expertedly show of all those wonderful core themes n the characters growth. what a great essay about a great movie :)
Ever since you announced in the stream that this channel was coming and gave a sneaky preview, I have been waiting for today! Greetings The_real_Tracer_main
Just came from your stream: try Dorohedoro - it is crazy, turbulent and fun and the dystopian setting is very interesting. Even the "villians" are sympathetic and have their family dynamic. En for example is an cold evil mafia boss but he really cares for his weak subordinates etc.
Great film analysis, really! Actually, when you were talking about Carl donning Russell's sash, I noticed that he was accidentally covering the gap in it! This holds a deep meaning, both for Carl and Russell's lives! It might represent how Carl's emptiness was being put to an end at the realisation of what true adventure means, and also be foreshadowing how, both for Russell and Carl, spending time together as a(n) (almost) family was going to be their great adventure! :')
SVB! You should do an analysis on the new game "Maquette". It's quite a short game, but it made me cry just as hard as the movie Up. There's a lot of symbolism and beauty in it that I know you'll appreciate.
i haven't thought about this movie in a long time - i'm glad i got to revisit it with your insightful look at the symbolism. i hope you will be taking a look at some of the miyazaki movies like maybe princess mononoke or howl's moving castle :)
the one scene that i think is so powerful is when he finally reads that part of the book and gets that closure he's been longing for. and he literally unburdens himself by shoving the physical weight off his house that was holding him back.
Finally got the time to watch this video. Thank you for this. It was really informative and actually touching on an emotional level as well. Once i have the time, i have to watch Up again

Criminally under-rated channel
The breakdown was perfect
I remembre watching this classic when I was a kid, it was very entertaining. But as I rewarched now, I'm reflecting about my existence
Im crying hard when carl notices ellie's last message and when he give russell the ellie's badge. This movie is beautiful :')
Very insightful analysis thank you.
i never realized how symbolic this movie is. great video svb

Super well done, and I very much enjoyed it. Avatar: The Last Airbender would be so fun to watch you break down.
