Lewis was thinking of the Yule Lads with the elves, which are actually trolls but the kid friendly-fication of them has resulted in them looking like lil elves

Eh, nordic traditions didn't really have clear distinctions between trolls/elves/goblin/kobolds, they're all vaguely the same thing

I actually learned from an old coworker that there's a shot at the end of Elf wherein Will Farrell has his picture taken in a pose to evoke the famous Bigfoot pictures.

I love the square dog, but I cant believe no one noticed how close it was to pochita from chainsaw man, all he was missing was the chainsaw, and technically pochita is a hell hound. (sort of)

I think the form of Square Dog really captures the hellish nature of a large animal rampaging through a city

If you thought the little Icelandic elves were cool before, wait until you learn they're called the YULE LADS. No, seriously. That's their name.
And each one has a gimmick. One of them has a huge nose, one is a peeping tom, one likes to slam doors in the night, one of them steals and eats candles, one of them is very short etc. etc.
They have names like Skyr Gobbler, Meat Hook, Stumpy. Etc.

The elves are a way different thing
They used to be evil until some Icelandic sailors who had visited the Netherlands in the mid 20th century came home and said "Hey over there in the mystical east of Holland there's a saint who leaves gifts in shoes in December lets do that to our kids but use monsters from our own Folklore and have thirteen of them so it will be even better". Before the canonical 13 were established by a popular poem in the 1932 basically every fjord and valley had their own set of Yule Lads which varied in numbers with some Lads overlapping between places but many being totally unique to one location.
Eventually they became basically just Coca Cola Santa Claus but mischievous and stupid.
Also they own a giant cat that eats everyone who doesn't clothes for Christmas and their mother is a legendary child eating ogress first mentioned in The Poetic Edda in the 13th century.
Lewis actually killed it this episode with the builds
Holy hell, Nilesy' US map caused me physical damage.
I was scrolling comments early and disparagingly wondered how well you could recreate Scotland in Minecraft... and then I saw Nilesy's map and immediately took 4d10 psychic damage
Alternate universe where New England joined Canada and New Jersey migrated south of the mason dixon line
Now you know how we Europeans feel basically any time an American tries to draw a map of Europe
What's crazy is that at one point gorillas were considered cryptids by the Western world.

Fun fact, the 3 headed dragon/hydra meme that they're referencing is King Ghidorah from the Godzilla films, specifically making fun of the King of the Monsters film from a few years back in which Ghidorah's third head is kind of a dumbass in it.

"this guy's thighs are three elves thick" sounds weirdly like it could be a compliment for like... orcs or bugbear or something. "He's so muscular/hot"/a replacement for "could bench a house" and I love it ^^
Or it could be something from DeviantArt where a person has legs so fat they're wider than a house

Boba's lego talk is another level
Bit odd that they consider pheonix mythological, but thunderbird a cryptid. Surely either both are myths, or both are cryptids.
I think the Thunderbird has been reinterpreted/appropriated as a cryptid, so it's both.
The main difference is whether there are people who think they are real. Much like Bigfoot, there are plenty of people who think the thunderbird is real and just hard to find. There aren't many people out there arguing the phoenix is real.
I guess maybe one is a more recent myth? But also definitely comes from a white European perspective...

Speaking of cryptids and scary things: the reason the uncanny valley exists in human perception is because we evolved the ability to be able to detect something that looks like a human but isn't
Though it is suggested this was a way to identify 'sick' humans, ones suffering from a variety of illnesses both mental and physical, that might be dangerous to other early humans. So it's less 'there were things that mimic humans' and more 'Gerry over there is acting weird, doing strange things and frothing at the mouth we should avoid/kill him before he's a problem for the rest of the tribe'
If you want to get grass with /fill you need to use the ID grass_block. "grass_block" is ID for the dirt block with a layer of grass on top of it. "grass" is the ID for the decorative and intangible block that grows on top of "grass_block." When you use "grass" instead of "grass_block" it's only spawning the plant, the only reason the grass blocks are underneath the plant is because the map was just built on top of grass blocks.
Basically, use /fill x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2 grass_block

I like how none of them even mentioned that phoenixes dont even have eggs. Rising from their ashes is like their whole thing. They aren’t even on fire most of the time because when they set fire they die and turn to ash which they then are reborn from.
