I heard this in a way I hadn't heard before. Bravi!
😍🤗🤔😲😪😢😢😓😁
Wonderfully acted and sung. Krassimira actually looks as if she's dying and still produces exquisite sound. Jonas too. Very sensitively performed. There is something enclosed about the sound as if in the dead space of the vault. I'd like to have it on DVD.

voix et jeu exceptionnels, magnifique !
Magnifica interpretación-!!
So where are they supposed to be in this scene? Obviously they have not been entombed inside a vault beneath the altar of Phtah. And what are the sacerdoti doing creeping up on them like that? It looks like they've been set free on the piazza, out in the open air, not buried alive.
Interpretation und Sänger/innen exzellent! ! Es geht um die große Liebe! Verdi brachte es in Musik!
Magnifico.
Wunderschöne Stimmen !!!
So emotional, physical and believable. And so not boring! Many thanks for sharing this.
Több mint csodálatos !❤
So Aida slashes her wrists. The original libretto was dramatic enough for Verdi, but not for this director.
I love the singers. They deserve better than this. I attended a similar staging of Lucia di Lammermoore (sp.) with the cast in contemporary costumes. The men looked like mafiosi. The women like housewives. Little in the way of scenery. This is what opera has become?
Yes. Very sad. In ten years or so, nobody will attend operas if productions continue with all the ugliness.@@shirleyrombough8173
Divina diva!!!!

Wunderbares Finale...danke
Wonderful singing.
BRAVOOOOO¡¡¡¡¡
Absolutely fabulous. I wish they'd do it together at the Met (she is in it this season).

It seems to be what is often called ' a stylish new production '. This usually means that they have skimped on on the costumes, and done away with scenery entirely.. It might as well be a concert-version of the opera.
I hate "stylish new productions." The voices here are beautiful. Imagine this as a traditional production with these two artists. And the suicide. Bah. So unnecessary and distracting. I doubt this is what Verdi had in mind.
Verdi had not had in mind this godforsaken production , and he had had in mind a true tenor , not what we hear here .
@@Nangis123 He'd better train his voice to sing Nabucco, Rigoletto or Simon Boccanegra, it's so dark in the lower and midle register it seems a miscast for Radamés.
I think there would be composers turning in their graves to see some stagings of their operas.
Pauline Davy
Indeed. And the level of the singing would kill them again right away.
Beautifully sung, but the conceit robs the finale of much of its thematic beauty. The idea that Aida cuts her wrists here is ridiculous and self-serving. In the original conception, she joins Radames as he is sealed in a tomb and they await their fate together (either suffocation or starvation, but presumably over a long period of time yet together and in sync). Their spirits join together as they are transformed by death. This choice here makes the moment all about her, and rather than join her fate to his she dies first and quickly, leaving him to comfort her and presumably live quite a long time after her bereft and alone. Where's the beauty in that?
Agree. It's a shame because the staging otherwise is great and the singing ain't bad (to say the least!).

They look like cave people. Frightening. The beautiful music is lost in this gory scene. How can somebody produce such a horrific scene to this heavenly music?
creaturepa : I totally agree !!!
Fantastica, meravigliosa , stupenda porcheria, come rovinare un capolavoro...

I am always amazed by how Jonas moves his skull....am I the only one? HAHAHAHAHA

I have always held the belief that Aida and Radames both aceepted their fate. Directors should keep faith with composers' intentions. Innovation yes, but this ending is a smack in the face of Verdi's great finale.
👍👍👍🎶🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏♥️🌹
The best lit knees in opera!

Bravo,Saluti a Bulgaria ,Sofia.
exactly,@Adriana Stecconi ! he is an oktoberfest tenor...
are you a relative/friend/just fan of Angela? this explains your comment

Is Kaufmann wearing Air Jordans?
I think you'll find that they are called river Jordans.thank you, I needed to tell a joke.
@@johnpickford4222 Thanks for the quick reply.
The lighting the scenery the staging: preposterous.

Jonas can have this squeezed, strained tone to his voice. You hear it in the opening of this sequence, and at several other places. Any vocal expert know what he's doing? It doesn't sound natural to me. When I listen to someone like Mario del Monaco the voice sounds so natural.
Great singing. The barebones set with the crowd walking up on them at conclusion is very distracting.

The composer is not just turning in his grave, he's getting a work out...
I know I should be paying more attention to the music, but WTH are they wearing? LOL

Jonas is to hotttttt
I just can’t warm to Hoffman, but everyone has their preferences.
You dumb? For starters he’s called Kaufmann.
Lentissima
Dramatica Aria
Great performance, however, is different from the usual.
I don't think that Verdi would be happy with this production. This act (scene) is not acceptable.
@Stefania Nope . Unfortunately this is not different from the "usual" , this is the new "usual"
@@judithbereczky4114 wait till you see the Paris production on Arte tomorrow . This one is wonderful compared to that one.
@@catherinecozzano2580 I will not watch this production. I read a lot of this production. In addition Jonas Kaufmann is not my favorite. My model for all tenors is Franco Corelli ( and the other tenors from the Golden Age). Also, tomorrow I will be watching the MET streaming of Turandot with Marcello Giordani, still a honest tenor and not microphone singer and the whole cast is good, too.
@@judithbereczky4114 You will miss some great singers but not the production. The MET Turandot is spectacular.
Theatrics aside, the singing was exquisite.
Great performans! Great voices both of them !
But I am FURIOUS about all the modern " directors" , costume designers, etc., who simply destroy the magic of opera, and are not true to the epoch. Obviously they are poor, poor guys, coming from a poor, poor families , with no stile, no culture, no feeling...
For this reason I stopped going to the opera...😪
Last time I went, was in Arena di Verona, 2 years ago : Aida, with the original costumes from 2 spectacles from 19 century( don't remember the exact year).
Das finde ich auch....that is why I don't like to see so many wunderbare opern.....die widerlich modernitat....so hasslich...
The singing talent is superb. The staging is definitely more modern in this production but I don't mind a different perspective. To me, both styles of production portray the emotion in the story which ultimately comes back to the artistry of the singers which is magnificent,
Ignore the staging. Just listen to the music sung by greatest dramatic tenor since Domingo
Yes, just close your eyes and listen. No sense looking at this silly staging. If we write enough negative comments maybe they won't do it next time.
Beautiful singing and acting. The staging not so much.
Great performance by the singers, but the landscape, the sport trousers, the snickers and the blood stains hugely diminish the reputation of the stage director. That solution is a shame.
Finale elegante,raffinato.....bello ma..........togliete il video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sung beautifully and dramtically-- but why, why, why does some idiot stage director not trust Verdi and the librettist. Verdi was a brilliant composer and dramatist. So some director changes the story-- adds another "cause of death." Ridiculous-- the whole point is that they are entombed alive and we hear the crowd and Amnesia from outside as they meet their fate and run out of air. Don't you think that if they had wanted a death by wrist-slitting Verdi would have written music for it? I am not opposed to creativity with time and place etc as we see in some productions of this and that-- but you can't change the story line. But Bravi to Drassimira & Kaufmann!!
Did you intend to change Amneris to Amnesia? I changed Melania to Melanomia on purpose, since 2016!
@@shirleyrombough8173 Funny-- I can assure you that spell check turned Amneris to Amnesia. But that would make a great bitchy comment if the Amneris were not good-- and forgettable.
Amnesia? Is she the precursor to Melanomia? You know- the trump wife?
@@JamesKoenig - Amneris was not a villain in the way that Melanomia is. The latter totally embraces her villainous husband's worst, most inhumane policies. And Amneris prayed for peace for both Aida, her rival, and Radames, he her betrayor.
Kaufmann forever !!!!
Nothing wrong with Stoyanova, she is just wonderful!
Yes she is.
I think she is fantastic!!!
Ugh, These stage directors and costume people can really get on my last nerve. I have never seen two people look so unlike Aida and Radames, not to mention this cutting of the wrists an stupid blood everywhere. This is one of the reasons I always check the staging an costumes before I buy a ticket for the opera.
I only watch operas that were produced before 2000. Franco Zeffirelli, Otto Schenk and several more were true artists, creating the most wonderful, rich, wholesome stages and costumes and now we have these barbarians who are intentionally ruining the beauty and the music of operas with their politics. Shame.
If today’s singers “super stars” were true artists they would refuse to take part in operas with contemporary, ugly, empty staging and costumes.
@@judithbereczky4114 Eactly.
@@judithbereczky4114 Today's artist are so concerned more with getting a"job" than about their art. What can we expect with 22 year olds making debuts with Aida and Wagner? Combine that with directors who have no desire to respect the music and libretto, and this is what we get.
@@judithbereczky4114 Nobody cares whether you sit alone in your room listening to old stagings. It means more tickets and enjoyment for the opera lovers. We can do without old hags in the gods moaning constantly.
