Mike Shinoda said it sounded too similar to Numb, which is why they thought people wouldn't like another song in that style haha. But obviously it's an amazing song which deserves to be heard.
Mike said it sounded too similar to numb, but it WAS completed in 2003, they just found it and didn't change anything.
Mike said something like "when you make 20 songs for an album and you have to pick 12, you put them all in order from favourite to least, and Lost was the 13th pick, so it just about didn't make it, if only because it sounded a lot like Numb".
nevertheless, I honestly love this song and I'm glad they rediscovered it! looking forward to Meteora 20th anniversary edition, there's a track called "Fighting Myself" which I'm very eager to hear in full!

Mike said in some interview that this song has similar vibe to "Numb", and they kept Numb in the album instead of Lost.

Being a Linkin Park Fan back at the original album all the way until today I'm still a big Linkin Park Fan they were a van before they're time. They say greatness is never recognized in his own time

In addition to what others said about why it wasn’t on the album. Mike also said it was recorded and mastered back when they were making Meteora and that it is unchanged for this release.

Glad to see you reacting to more LP. There's actually a few more songs you could react to if you are ever up for it. There's the album "Hybrid Theory EP" ("part of me", "and one", "carousel") that was released about a year before "Hybrid Theory". There's also a few "unreleased" sort of demo songs that didn't make other albums and they ended up releasing them years later etc. Some of them are pretty good. Think you reacted to one of them in the past (across the line).

Dude, this song is a fucking BANGER! The more I listen, the more I love it. The chorus is just perfect Chester. Lyrics speak to so many right now. We are all feeling a little "Lost" in a mind of confusion. Pretending life is just great.
When this was released I got up at 5am in the UK the song ripped my heart out & I will say it now I cried

Its the 20th anniversary of meteora, they're releasing a box set of a bunch of unreleased songs and demos

I've listened to Meteora from start to finish more times than I can ever try to put into a number. I have owned 3 copies of the record because they were played so much and would wear out and get scratched over time. Hybrid Theory was kickass but for whatever reason Meteora was something special to me. There is no other album like it in existence.
Lost is the Twin of Numb
This video and song was made back when they made the Meteora album except for they had the option to put numb on there or lost and they decided to put numb on the album. So this is a song from twenty years ago they finished produced and just never released

You should defidently go through and react to meteora
They can only have 12 songs on the album. Business stuff. This was #13. Number 12 was numb, and this was deemed as too similar and Numb superior. This is a very good song. Just imagine if they got this and all their unreleased songs fully produced and released, all the good it would've done for millions of people.

Only ACDC is the one that has a new singer and people loved the new song. It really depends on the song they create. Most of the time the magic is gone or completely different which is why it doesn't work.
This sounds more like Dead By Sunrise than Linkin Park imo

The other new song More The Victim sounds a little bit like Dead By Sunrise. There is a punk rock feel in chorus and especialy in the bridge.
