It sounds hyperbolic, but Book Club has absolutely changed my life and opened me up to an entire world I never thought I'd experience. They deserve all the good that comes their way.
Book Club definitely feels different from Boiler Room because it’s more genuine and fun, and it brings the attention back to the music, instead of creating this facade of the console being an altar.
totally. In a way, Boiler Room kinda ruined DJ culture for me. But Book Club saved it. At least for me. And that’s why Tinzo + Jojo became popular for doing what they love. Ppl feel that purity of just loving and playing music. It also made me like wanting to be at the party.
Me, my wife, and my 4 kids (ages 6-13) listen to the new Book Club Radio set every weekend during game night. I'm so grateful to have found them. The way they present music highlights why we are all drawn to music in the first place. I grew up with small house parties and I never thought I'd be able to recapture that feeling - let alone be able to share that feeling with my family. Cheers!
I used to go out every weekend to clubs in London, and Ibiza, one or two in the US. This was pre-iPhone time. I'm 49 now. Watching these guys having fun with their excellent and diverse sets makes me pine for the times I went out. What makes their gigs reminiscent of the time I had was the no-phones policy. What a great approach! it pains me to watch a set and see all those lights from cameras pointing at the DJ. Also the crowds at Book Club gigs look so good. Back in the 90's you could go to an indie club on a Friday and a house club on the Saturday and see the same people. You see the crowds in these videos, they are the same people! cool kids, nerds, fashionistas... Book Club feels like a throwback to really good times.
What a breathe of fresh air to come across this….. As a 50 yo I have been in the music scene for many years so know what it’s like to be in the biz and to come across Tinzo and Jojo the organic , natural state of being rather than the pretentious, self righteous state of mind is in and of itself a wonderful thing to see and feel. Keep up the amazing work !
Tinzo , you and your brother are making the Beautiful come to life ! I was once in the scene as one half of the duo Technasia….. We were active between ‘97 and ‘06 and released various techno ep’s and lp’s that you can still find. You guys are really on the right track pushing through music to the masses and I am on the sidelines cheering you both ! Your passion and light shines right through in your performances 🙌 Hoping to catch you somewhere in the 🌎 one of these days ! Sending you love and blessings 🙏🏼❤️✨
@@amil9609 I'm going to have to bump this comment, so those younger folks in the comment section understand who you are. Folks: Technasia is TECHNO ROYALTY! Go search and buy everything they did. I won't give you names, so you can discover the bangers for yourself. Amil, perhaps by now you've seen a bit more of what the Book Club crew does, and it really is wonderful to see a generation finally carrying the torch of our era. Lots of us older folks recognize their ethos, which frankly I didn't think would ever come back. A PLEASURE to see you in the comment section, and THANK YOU for your amazing music.
Tinzo & Jojo, y’all are bringing the total package. The Librarian’s Manifesto is awesome & your authenticity is refreshing. What you’re creating is this generation’s Studio 54 with the paradox of being inclusive yet exclusive. What a time to be alive!
i say exactly the same words to my best friend when we had diner tonight.. 20 years to wait for the music of all music.. they r a pure miracle.. the soundzzz of tomorrow
I got to see them at Coachella, and I got to meet and talk to them after their set. It was magical, and they're SO incredibly nice. This interview was delightful. They inspire me to want to DJ one day ❤❤
My favorite rule is "Face each other instead of the DJ." All the non-BCR sets where people are just right on top of the DJ, trying to be seen, is so cringe. As DJ's go, solo Tinzo and solo Supergloss and maybe Dana Montana, are the only DJ's where I like about 90% of their stuff, a really high ratio for how picky I am.
I am a young boy with 49 years. You both get the essence of clubbing from the 90's and beginning of the 00's wenn we all go with friends and the happiness from others around us is what give us the high. The smile and the contact with others is the most. Don't doing always the same mix is the most thanks for that. I can't understand the new generation that put always the same music with no remixes.
Sorry for the long comment but had to share my feelings. Ya'll. Seriously Bravo. This interview well captures the 'magic' of Book Club Radio to me. Congrats Derrick! Tinzo & Jojo's personalities draw you in. Somethings spoken, somethings not. It seems BCR success is a mixture of personality, passion, and providence. Also, it's just a time when youtube dj set ambiance is on the rise. There billions of other dj sets on YT, but none quiet capture the vibrancy of the people, the mixes, the feeling of a good time in the same way. A little context - I put on BCR in the house while I'm cleaning. When I'm entertaining. When I'm cooking. When I'm at my computer in the zone. When I'm biking to work. It's sometimes about the visual vibe backdrop that makes your living room feel populated with people, but in moments of privacy. It's both casual and energetic at the same time. Its a performance but not performative. Also just damn good mixes that each have their own identity so you never get tired of them b/c they all have their own flavor. Congrats on the success. You all make a piece of home for me! Cheers!
I absolutely love Book Club Radio and would add that it acts as a portal for its fans bc we can engage with the party. That's what makes it unique, the way you can feel like you're at a party with friends, whereas in a movie the club scene or house party is limited to a few minutes. My brother and I are 4.5 years apart and love music, too, but clubs aren't really welcoming for those over 40...that isn't as open to our age group like it'd possibly be in metro areas like NYC. It makes you feel voyeuristic if 20+ years separate you from the majority, and the scene is often less about enjoying the music and dancing in the company of like-minded music lovers and more about play-acting in a neverending selfie. Book Club Radio doesn't filter, doesn't discriminate, and feels real, and that's clearly thanks to Jojo and Tinzo. Thank you for featuring their story!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤This popped up on my feed because I'm sure UA-cam thought it was a real “book club” and I'm happy for the confusion. As I started looking at Book Club’svideo list I realized I've listened to a set before but I'm definitely listening to more now. Love their story!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love book club radio. I listen to a set most days just doing stuff around the house. I love hearing all of their creativity and attention to detail they all put in their sets. The more I learn about this club the more i love it!
It does feel different, the music choice and variety is really good. Jojo had a set with the doors in it and my wife loves it, and she doesn't listen to dance music. Tinzo had a eurodance set that had the best energy! They also just have really positive energy. I love watching them learn and the guest DJs they have on are also all really impressive(Flotussin, 🤯🤯.) They also UA-cam really well with marking tracks on the timeline. I appreciate them.
I ran across book club radio several months back looking for jazzy house. All the videos look so fun and remind me of my early 90's days playing private parties. The vibes of BCR parties are refreshing. And the DJ s not only groove the crowd , they also enjoy and believe in the music played. I was so sad when the rooftop 80s rock set was pulled but somehow was cleared and reposted. Always looking forward to new sets now.
The Librarian's manifesto is on point and it's how I used to go clubbling in the 90's dance scene in Toronto, NY and Chicago. I support your promotion of the manifest.
This was a great podcast and a really insightful chat. For me BCR takes me back to those early days of dance culture where it was all about the music. Sure the DJs were well known, but the booth was not a fully lit throne to their skills and often was just a small stage in a corner with barely and lighting. People came to dance and be with friends. Those warehouse parties and illegal raves were a special time and Tinzo & Jojo seem to have captured that vibe and re energized it for the current generation. I look forward to more and will tap my feet to the beat from the other side of the Atlantic.
Book Club Radio has genuinely been one of the best experiences i have seen on youtube in the past couple years! 🎉 congrats on your success and i wish to attend one day lol
Oh they are so lovely! I recently discover Book Club Radio and it's now my go-to, absolutely obsessed, I love their energy. I think what's different about them is that it is so relatable, makes you feel so close to them.
Boiler room has tons of ppl with their phones pointed right at the dj, space miami clubs has everyone too tired to move or posing. BCR looks like a great time!
Imma an old music head and am so grateful for all your mixes. I even it play it during my Muay Thai sessions with my clients!! Keep doing what you’re all doing! Much Love from Bay Ridge BK!
Tbh, I used to go to the Brooklyn Mirage a lot, and always been around people who complained, pushed and shoved. I couldn’t really dance. Awesome community and much praise to you both! 🤍🪱
Book club came across my page and changed my world they’re doing incredible work that the world needs to see it feels much more community oriented and personal in a way I’m thrilled to see more of!!! See yall when you come to La!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this chat. Stumbled upon their basement videos a few times from my UA-cam algo and glad to hear the intention behind the series. Also, wow Derrick, you are such a good host. Impressed with the thoughtful questions and how you ended the conversation with a comparison on your own journey. Big fan
Book Club is so special because of the depth of intention in every single element. ❤ What a fascinating and thoughtful interview! I really appreciate your calm insightful demeanor, Derrick. ✨
Subconsciously, I've gravitated to Book Club Radio away from the big channels because I really relate to the mixes. Tinzo's and Jojo's song choices feel like a rich narrative is unfolding as I listen, a story being told, as opposed to the named DJs trying to please their live audience with their and other DJs' hits; hence, they are a more intimate, relatable, personal listening experience for me. And not subconsciously, I hate it when the DJ is introduced by an MC (looking at you, Boiler Room). In fact, I've left comments on their channel for them to cut those two minutes out as they're for the attendees who were there. On UA-cam, we click the links for the music, so cut to the needle drop already. Book Club Radio does that, and I'm really appreciative. These are little things that mean a bunch to me.
I listen to House sets online and the algorithm fed me a Jojo set in a NY loft. People had butter fly wings on and it was still daylight. I was hooked from there. I listen to all of the Tinzo and Jojo stuff and have shared with a few friends who love it now also. Good stuff, it was great to hear them talk about it.
I got to see them in Los Angeles, and the energy really is just different. It feels more personal and friendly than a lot of other sets. Such a great vibe!
Good podcast, I feel like I got to know Tinzo and JoJo better and learn where they're coming from. I learned a lot about how the channel started and I'm surprised how quickly their channel has grown, Thank you!
Yo lo sigo desde el principio y son originales y incluso las secciones de la música de los 90 suenan como en la época que yo bailaba en la disco en los 90
These are the vibes for me when I go to an edm show. I'm there for the atmosphere, the music, a drink in hand, and the vibes. While most everyone is facing the DJ with their phones out, I'm just dancing/vibing. This is what I want to bring to my (future) DJ sets. Just vibes. There for the music. Can't wait to be at one of the shows soon.

So glad to bump into this cause this was somehting I was hoping to hear. So cool to put voices to their faces cause I always see them thru the music they play. Awesome convo - wish it lasted longer lol
Brilliant interview Derrick. We came across them via U Tube and appreciated their eclectic mixes . Their natural vibe and flow of their music and their energy. They have an old school new school vibe. As someone in their 50's they play to us and the younger generation of which can be hard to do, to incorporate different genres and they all come together and appreciate them. They are lovers of good tunes and wanting people to enjoy them too!
Personally the Groovey Disco was not our go to it was the the other more eclectic varied dance tracks but we can see why thst video took off as its the sound of now or what many younger people listen to. As we know now, social media has a huge outreach and especially for the younger generation but Tinzo & Jo Jo play tracks from the past that incorporates people that just love music...
watching so closely this interview, I mean all feels so natural,, I paused halfway to write my comment. Book Club Radio, Tinzo and Jojo do you realise what you have done , created , how wonderful people you are?? Not only as a former theater techninician , mainly as a fan I’ll always support you! Cheers, me
I am from Canada and stumbled on Groovy Disco and R&B video just like you stated in the interview. Fantastic and since then I am a huge fan. I am 60 years old and a total fan. I would love someday travel and attend one of your party. Keep doing what you started ... fans around the world
Big fan of BCR for the music, the vibe, and keeping PLUR alive. As a late 40's dj in Wisconsin that observation had a poignant sting. 57:50 "Basement Rave in Milwaukee" does not carry the gravitas of "Basement Rave in NYC"
Watching this on mute while Nostalgic Rock House Music is playing lol. All their shows brings me to its respective themes. Thank you for the music T&J xoxo from PH ❤
when the host said " I feel like we have a lot in common" --totally rings true. this is how i got attached to the bookclubradio channel and Tinzo and Jojo. You guys play the music that i wanted to play and have played during our shows in downtown las vegas. you gave the same vibes and i think everyone resonated with that. Where are these announcements coming from so i can plan to party with you guys next time im in NYC?
It’s funny because I thought boiler room was biting off of book club lol book club is way more enjoyable. In my opinion. I love you guys so much. Thank you for everything you do!
My era was the late 90s early 00s, and since 2005 the scene and the music took a direction that didn't work for me. The algorithm turned me onto Book Club when they were below 300 subs. After a few tracks and reading about them, I was keyed in. I know from the comments that tons of us older folks really see what Book Club is doing as a continuation of the scene and culture from our era. It's amazing to see the younger generation adopting the ethos we had back in the day, PLUR if you will, with the added point that we didn't have back then, eliminating phones one the dance floor. On top of that, they both have GREAT taste in music. Boiler Room has been lame for 10yrs already, but they bring a different crowd. Those folks can stay there. Book Club has that authentic underground vibe that will pull in the folks you would want at a party. Looking forward to where they go!
Well, I really loved the parties, and knew they were onto something genuine and exciting. But now I really respect them so much more. They did not stumble into this success. They honed the tools, were earnest, and worked hard. Plus they are genuine fans of the music, the process, and making people happy. I work at home and very much look forward to new sets. I catch myself getting entranced watching the people dancing, respecting each other, and genuinely having a great time. I hope Jojo and Tinzo can hold onto that, just like they are saying they want to. It makes me a little nervous to see the trajectory of the party sizes. Would love to see some smaller groups again. That's part of the magic all this came out of.
Thank you to JoJo for his take on the easeness of being a DJ, however the DJ's in Book Club are SOOOO good at what they do, that I think the ability to get a great mix and choose the right songs may not be the easiest thing to do, and where the real skill comes out. Full caveat: I'm NOT a DJ! :)
This may be a purely subjective Hot Take from the IRL vs Digital question…. But I think they’re not the same experience. I’ll get the hour-ish BCR set going, headphones on, cell phone face down and absolutely jam out in my little space til an almost hypnotic dissociative vibe sets in. It’s such a fun and unlonely effect that is much easier to experience in a solo digital atmosphere. Just my 2 cents. thanks for this content.
Lookin forward to c u play @The Chop Shop. Don’t forget to visit Gramophone record store when you’re in the Chi !! Or Reckless record store here in da Chi. Giving some love to Tommy Sunshine from Brooklyn too. Last seen him play @ Site 1A in Milwaukee. Would luv to see him in a line up with you!! Midwest luv from da Chi ✌️🙌 Luv the no phone rule too. Wisconsin, maybe contrary to belief, has a very good underground electronic music scene. Milwaukee, Chicago, and The Twin cities . Drop bass records, Enemy records, intellephunk, hush sound, DVS1 ,Dustin Zahn. Movement 2024 was epic. Plur ✌️
Personally I like how they are disguised as a Book Club. In fact I think they should remain a Book Club and have "library membership" and have shelves of books like an old Borders store. Imagine a rave in a Borders store.
😊 I love your music! My favorite thing is how diverse you are. You have exposed me to new music. I'm deep in the application mountains and both of your music gets me through the day. I can't wait to see more stuff!
I wanna to say that they’ve had an influence on COLDCUES which seems to have taken some notes of librarian’s manifesto, at least from what I’ve seen🤷♂️(I HOPE TO CATCH TINZO n JOJO sometime in the future hopefully one day they perform in FL)
It sounds hyperbolic, but Book Club has absolutely changed my life and opened me up to an entire world I never thought I'd experience.

This was a great Episode Derrick - learnt a lot from you guys!
I'd never heard their voices before!
JoJo and Tinzo Rock! Awesome dance mixes!
Great mixes - very upbeat, motivating and positive. Thank you!
Keep doing what you started ... fans around the world
Tinzo and Jojo are unique people who spread HAPPINESS... Thank you for us! 🔊😎
That rooftop set is a monster
Crazy to see how much they've grown!
when the host said " I feel like we have a lot in common" --totally rings true. this is how i got attached to the bookclubradio channel and Tinzo and Jojo. You guys play the music that i wanted to play and have played during our shows in downtown las vegas. you gave the same vibes and i think everyone resonated with that. Where are these announcements coming from so i can plan to party with you guys next time im in NYC?
Whoah, Jojo worked for PBS??!!! ❤❤❤
Absolutely brilliant interview, well done Derrick. I love BCR and thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Thank you.
BCR IS THE BEST OF EVENTS, CULTURE, MUSIC, LIFESTYLE, AND PEOPLE ❗🎶🎵🎵🎧💯🔥🔥☯️✌️👍🤗😎
So cute, lovable , talented , amzing , I wish I was younger and in NY so I could come to one of your parties, amazing
What a Co-Inky-Dink, I was just searching for video interviews on these guys. I only found an old article interview
Well done interview!
Was great to learn more about the backgrounds of T&J as well as BCR
Coachella???!!! WTFFFFFF!!! CONGRATU-F-ULATIONS! 👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🤩🤩🤩
They are really do a great job for the rave culture
I just came across black house radio and I think the feel is similar in that it feels like you're part of a house party.
Tinzo and Jojo have amazing taste and talent ,i wish them the best!!
Thank you for this enjoyable conversation!
Cool podcast, wholesome convo. Book Worm 4 life!
Bookworm stolen and applied to myself
Fantastic interview
Hope these guys keep it up. Didnt know rhey were siblings
Bless the both of you. As for the interviewer you are great
Cool, never new they were sis/bro, terrific innovative workings🎉
😊 I love your music! My favorite thing is how diverse you are. You have exposed me to new music. I'm deep in the application mountains and both of your music gets me through the day. I can't wait to see more stuff!
They are amazing!!
Really love their music 😍
Derrick nice props to David Mancusos Loft and PLUR. These parties have achieved the vibe.
Great interview, love it
I have been listening to their channel for a while now, very very good.
💜💜💜 these interview...love me some book club radio....🖤🖤🖤🖤
I wanna to say that they’ve had an influence on COLDCUES which seems to have taken some notes of librarian’s manifesto, at least from what I’ve seen🤷♂️(I HOPE TO CATCH TINZO n JOJO sometime in the future hopefully one day they perform in FL)
let me be just insufferable for a moment but...
Oiii! Oiiii! FILIPINOOOO 🇵🇭
Book Club is fun and happy. Keep it up!
Shit, they just reinvented PLUR - LOL!
PLAYING AT COACHELLA NO WAY THATS AWESOME ❤🎉
who else is catching a tinzo+jojo b2b live set on their tour?
Beautifully said “boiler rooms don’t look cinematic” at 10:55 by Jojo
Thus was an amazing interview ❤❤❤
DJing a party is how DJ's enjoy parties.
hey Derrick!! where are your glasses from???
Book club radio is the sheeeez
yay!! i love book club radio!!!
