Loving this tutorial - it’s the truest to the actual track and not dumbed down! There’s no full runthrough, so putting time stamps in here that I have been referencing to review the demo portions: 6:00 slow demo of basic verse pattern 6:23 from beginning to pre-chorus (“how easy”) 8:54 “more than words” chorus 13:59 long chorus (“what would you do”) 18:21 strumming demo 19:06 outro picking 1 21:54 tapping demo 26:25 outro picking 2
Agreed. I been watching several other tutorials and they skip a lot of changes to make it easier. I'd prefer to play the song correctly and this one does just that! Thank you for the great tutorial! Time to get to work!
Carl- I've been listening to this song since it was released to radio in the early 90s. I've seen all manner of "tutorials" here on UA-cam. Yours is BY FAR the best and MOST accurate! Thank you!
Thank you for tuning the guitar down half a step, one of the only tutorials on youtube that does this. Makes it easier to play with the actual recording. Great lesson!
Great Lesson!!! By far one of the best UA-cam guitar instructors ; Overall teaching method, pace, and verbal instruction. Not to mention the best Video to learn this song Acoustically.
You know ive learned guitar from you more than the whole internet combined. Your no nonsense approach is gold. You do not beg for subscribers like others. I respect that. But i would like to say to the people who are learning this beautiful song. Do subscribe to carl's channel. #respect
Hey Carl...love the turorial. Been playing this wrong for years. The only thing is that after the extended chorus there is a shortened verse where they la di da along to the song, and thats when he does the precussion on the top of the guitar.
My favorite part is the slap where you do a slap and say "you're going to be doing that the entire time so get use to it" That's exactly how I would teach it😂
Dude Marty copies everything Carl plays if u know what I mean. If u check the time between the 2 vids between Carl and Marty, u can see that Carl always has his vids earlier than Marty.
I agree with all of these comments, but I think I should say that BOTH are very good teachers, and both have their own style. I've learned a lot from Marty... and sometimes if I just want the "quick campfire" way to play a song, I'll learn it from Marty. If I want unbelievable accuracy and detail, I'll come here... but really, both will leave you playing the song well if you're a good student... I think they both belong where they do for what they do!
This is great example of your superior 3 camera set up. I tried learning this from another video and was skipping back and forth and having a nightmare with it.
This song is way harder to play than what it seems, or what people seem to make it sound like when they lump it together with other so called "typical rock ballads" of the 80's/90's guitar era. I'll get it down someday...
I thought it was easy too, until i started to play guitar. Man back then i couldnt even play " what's up" of 4 non blondes and this is actually one of the easiest songs you can play😂😂😂😂. I remember, i use to practice so hard that my index bled. I didnt have a mediator. And now i have a real good guitar( okay not that good but its still bettee than my tiny purple guitar for 6-8 years old girls) and my music sounds way better. And I have a mediator. I finally feel like a real musician haha. I hope someday I'll become real good I'll be able to play that song.
Axeman 666- you suck, get outta here. Nobody's a god when they are just learned guitar, any song can be hard depending on your musical/technical ability
Thank you so much! You are really very good and very precise. This helps me to perfect this wonderful song I started learning three months ago. Greetings from Italy! :)
Just a note: The guitar needs to be tuned down by one half step. Carl is actually mentioning that in the beginning but I overheard that several times...
This tutorial is aweseome but I would really like tabs for the tapping part. I cannot tell from this tutorial the transition from one part of the tapping to the 2nd half. After acending back to the A (5th fret), do I decend to get back down to the F# to start the 2nd part. I went back and watched Carl's example but it's too fast for my old ears :(
While you are an outstanding guitarist and this tutorial overall is fantastic, I have to complain about the final part. In the actual recording on the CD, there is quite a significant percussive, almost crunchy sound to that last G chord that he strums. It is not simply strummed with a thumb or index finger the way you did in the tutorial. For almost 20 years, I have been trying to figure out how he creates that sound. I have no idea how the hell he does it! If you have any idea what I'm talking about, or any of the readers of this comment do, please explain to me how to create exactly that sound on the final cord. Thanks again
jawojnicki It's called a rasqueado. It is used mostly in flamenco guitar. It is performed by brushing the tops of your nails across the strings in a sequential pattern. In this case he starts with his little find a follows in order ring, middle , index. Just google rasqueado technique here on youtube and you will see about a bazillion lessons on how it is done. :)
GuitarLessons365Song SUPERB! You rock Carl. Thanks so much and keep the great lessons coming. BTW, if I may make a request - if you don't already have a vid for it - Santana : the lead guitar track for "Smooth", NOT the radio edit, but rather the full album version. I have the sheet music but it seems WRONG in may places. Thanks again!
Hey Carl I want to request a song called one life one soul by Gotthard please teach me how to play it within a month I need it okay..Please reply me..Thank you.
No entiendo lo que dice in inglés y mi nivel de guitarra es muy bajo. Pero algo se, el que es buen maestro hace ver lo difícil como fácil y esto se ve muy fácil a pesar de que no lo es

Thank you for this, I was having difficulty learning this song purely by the tab for it.
Love your videos man, very in-depth as always!
I love the tone of that guitar.🎶🎸
Great tutorial man, really appreciated! I've been playing too much metal lately and I needed something to play that's a little quieter.
You are amazing...brilliant tutor...grace bless you

Awesome lesson! Great instruction, easy to follow. By far the best on the internet (that I have seen)
I saw marty's video then found this one. Holy crap this one is way more complicated because of how accurate it is. Marty might wanna check this out.
marty fakes everything
@stargazer _099 thats what i meant alot of Marty vids are geared to novices he rarely shows note for note..Love Marty!!!
Yet I find Marty to be less clear, he tends to gloss over things, even if he made the song easier...
Dude Marty copies everything Carl plays if u know what I mean. If u check the time between the 2 vids between Carl and Marty, u can see that Carl always has his vids earlier than Marty.

Don’t you add your pinky finger on the last string on the last note on the D chord which would be on the 3rd fret to end it then repeat?
