Not sure if you’ve covered this previously but what is your steam box setup and how long do you normally steam? Also pressurized or non-pressurized?

Looking to do my own nets soon. Can you give some info on what router bit you use to route the groove on the outside of the hoop?

Awesome! You’re going to have a blast. The router bit is from a website called: Nets that honor the fish. If you google that it’ll turn up the site and it’s in their products section. Totally worth every penny! Good luck on your net build!

Nice net! I'm curious to know what you sprayed the net frame with. I make nets too and use a spar varnish mixed with minerals spirits to finish mine but it takes at least ten coats to protect the wood well enough for my friends!

I use two coats of the Dalys Ship n’Shore for penetration and sand between coats. The finish I use is a basic spray exterior gloss poly and I do 5 coats. It builds up really well and has held up beautifully for my nets over the years. I’ve never used a spar/mineral spirit mix but would love to learn more! Is that a 50/50 mix?

The spar varnish I use is made by Last n' Last and the store only had gloss finish. I prefer satin but sometimes you have to use what you can get! I've played around with different ratios and mixing it 50/50 works well. No more than that! The Dalys is hard to find in my area. Thanks for responding and answering my question. Happy New Year!!@@RiverbendWoodworks

How thick are you going on your laminations? Have you considered going thinner and adding maybe one more lamination?

Sorry for the delayed response! The strips for this net are just right at 1/8” thick and I think you’re totally right that going sub-1/8” would be a better choice.
