With such salacious exploration of analog filtering in the beginning, no doubt the Chemical Brothers will around to chastise you soon. Sounds good, my friend. Glad to see you around.

Nice exploration! The se-3x sounds great, has a good feature set and for me also the perfect form factor. Pity that it's a little too expensive that I could justify it for my use. I might have to look up a second-hand se-1x.

Thanks! It's certainly not an impulse buy. Having owned it for about six months I feel it's worth every penny though. The amount of territory you can cover with six filter circuits is insane. I originally justified the price by selling my rack. This was the closest thing to a rack with patch memory I could find.
The SE-1X is a beast as well. The SEM and Moog filters cover a lot of sonic territory; especially with the drive settings. I owned a Moog Boomstar for a couple years and it was my favorite mono that whole time. The SE-3X hits just as hard and is like having the whole Boomstar line (minus the CS-80).

Does the knobs wiggle? How firm they are in comparison to you other synths?

Knob wiggle isn't excessive. If you look closely you can see slight movement at times. I wouldn't use the side of my finger to adjust them. Knobs feel similar to Dreadbox. Overall build quality is excellent in my opinion.

@impurfekt thanks. Yeah I'm asking becouse I'm trying to pull the trigger. How much menu diving there is or can you do program only with panel controls + shift buttons?
I was worried the knobs wiggle too much at this price point.

@@Judasz696 My primary complaint about the interface is that is has three dedicated pulse width knobs instead of three dedicated oscillator mix knobs. You have to hold shift then turn each pulse width knob to adjust the corresponding oscillator mix. Then the PW knob position no longer represents where the PW is actually set at.
Aside from this I don't like that the filter circuit choice is not stored with each patch. The filter slope is (BP/LP/HP) but not the actual circuit. It's an independent toggle switch. The volume level is different among the filter circuits so if you don't remember which filter you had used with each patch they won't sound right. Depending on how much you rely on patch memory this can be an issue.
Those are really my only issues with the interface. Most of what you want to do has its own knob. Menus are required to change modulation destinations and LFO settings. SE makes excellent use of the panel size. The layout is superb in my opinion. But I'll never understand the choice to have dedicated PW knobs over dedicated mix knobs.
For a hand made synth the build quality is excellent in my opinion. Factory made synths do have the edge in knob feel though. The Matrix Brute and Pro 3 (the closest competitors) both have a more solid knob feel. They also take up an entire desk.

@impurfekt yeah more sense would have to have pw under shift and mixer on knobs still its bearable for my workflow. Also you can save name of the filter with stats when saving patch.
One guy told me that di mono passive box like telefunken tdp1 is a nice combo with se3x. What are you using in the chain after se3x?

@@Judasz696 I actually sold my synths to fund an obscene modular setup. When I had the SE-3X I tracked into Cubase and added effects that way. The overdrive switch on the SE-3X has two settings and kicks ass. I used it on nearly every patch. Lots of ways to overdrive on the SE-3X.
I used the SE-3X extensively on my last album. It's extremely versatile thanks to all those filter circuits, paraphonic mode and multiple drive settings. The sound is top tier.
