I am 78, BP2 and only take buproprion and its been working for a long time. But it took me some time to learn to really focus on managing my mental health. Once you get it all can go far better than you ever imagined. I don't ever have have bouts of serious depression these days. But I also think that BP gets better with age. I admire your courage for being so open and sharing.
I want to thank you for posting your video. I have been dealing mental disorders for over 40 years. I have seen multiple psychiatrists and therapists who have always diagnosed me with severe depression, anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, and PTSD. I have been prescribed so many different anti-depressant medications. I've signed myself into Psychiatric Hospitals 4 times for suicidal thoughts. I recently found a therapist about 3 years ago who I can say is the best therapist I've ever had. She is the first and only one who diagnosed me with Bipolar. One may think this would upset me, however, I was relieved after researching what Bipolarism is all about. It truly describes what I've been truly dealing with all these years. The fact that it took so many years for someone to take the time and effort to understand what I actually have, was a Blessing. She also referred me to a new Psychiatrist. It's still a up hill battle but I now feel I am finally on my way to learn how to deal with my mental illness. To all that may take the time and read my post, never give up.
Did u had tonscilectomy??
I found out at 29 😭🙌 i wasn’t happy but atleast I know & can overcome it and be better
I was diagnosed really late in life after 4 psychoic episodes. I felt so relieved to know and I feel like my life began when I finally got on medication. The shame is so much better now that I know. I'm so glad you have a good support system and made it through!!!
I'm having the same problems now with getting constantly diagnosed with anxiety and depression even though the psychiatrist don't want to hear about my 'manic/psychotic' episode.😢😢😢
I totally agree with you. It took over 20 years after my diagnosis to find the medication that works best for me. It is different for all of us. One size does not fit all.
I really appreciate sharing your journey with us. Very admirable 🙏
Thank you so much! :)
Please don’t take MJ it make your brain worst . Go to Dr Amen or let at his video .
Thank you for sharing.
My quack psychiatrist diagnost me as Bipolar II because all hell broke loose after I stopped Zoloft cold turkey. She said it 'unmasked' the depression as bipolar. When I see the commercials for Caplyta, I just change the channel. I am a pilot, flying is the one thing I enjoy, and I would be disqualified if I took antipsychotics. or mood stabs. Psychiatry is a baby boom 1950s profession.
Thanks for sharing.
This was very helpful
I always strongly believed i was bipolar 2 but today i was diagnosed as such
And next week will finish my assessment and be meditation bound after the next appt i appreciate your sharing
You're not alone!
I also waited 40 years for my correct diagnose BPII.Tried a lot of different anti depressants. None of them ever worked. Since 3 years on Lithium and stable. Bipolar disorder runs in my family. Wish you all the best. It's so important that we talk more about our experiences. It helps yourself and it can also help others. Love from Spain.
Shit I'm really really scared of the medication I don't want to go through all that😭😭😭😭
No you do not. Trust me. Go carnivore diet. It’s the only cure. Zero side effects. I’m on zero meds. Carnivore diet is literal gold. I try to spend the awareness. Don’t take my word for it…try it.
I’m on a bit of a mix bag. currently I’m taking Agomelatine, Fluoxetine, Vyvanse, and Lamotrigine
Sadly I had 40+ side effects to lithium. Some serious ones included memory loss (within 20 seconds) it was actually terrifying, I had hallucinations and saw people that weren't there in lights (I'm not schiz) tremors, weak, etc. Everyone in the book it was terrible. Then I was throwing it up daily for awhile so I took myself off
I get it! Some medications have caused a lot of side effects, everyone is different so we have to keep trying with finding the right ones with the help of our doctors :) I hope you find the ones that will work!
Shit i'm pretty sure i'm bi-polar but fucking A, all these side effects makes me not wanna get medication. thank you for your honestly and perspective
I REALLY WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ADHD you mentioned!
Me too. I also have diagnosed bipolar 2 and (possible) ADHD (awaiting diagnosis).
anone who is being diagnosed adhd in adulthood is either from a home with parents who didn't care to notice their child behavior as concerning or ignored their child all together.... Or is a young adult trying to score speed to stay skinny and get shit done. It baffles me how parents coulf be blind to ADHD.... It's distraction and loud and creates stress in the family. School age is when it is the most noticeabl; though their progress in school, feedback from teachers, ability to focus, complete chores, and finally ability to communicate calmly with their parents, peers, and friends, focus on school projects, athletics, activities, ability to keep their space acceptably in order and not lose their things all the time. Crappy parents are the reason that their child never never got medical attention for this because it is at its height during school age years. Maybe they are too scared to face that their child is a spaz??? Idk But what I do know is the sudden spike in diagnosis in adults or anyone over the age of 15 is either girls wanting amphetamines so they can keep slim and skinny, and college kids jonesing for speed..
No shame boo. I was diagnosed adhd at 7,but the meds gave me digestion issues so around 4th grade we stopped ...... Then came college and my 20's and I was determined to be on adderall ritalin stackers the whole shabang! (enter the eating disorder era )... Well that's the WORST thing to do if you have BP (besides not prioritize sleep)
My point is if you got this far managing your life acceptably then stop shopping for a diagnosis thats #trending and own your lack of self discipline and laziness... That is what is most likely happening. Or maybe you really did have shitty parents? Who knows @@camellia8625
Is Lamotrigine and Lithium still working well for you? Would love to hear an update. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 in 2007 and have been on the medication merry-go-round for years. Ive been on just about everything I think. Currently on Lamotrigine but dont like it that much although at first it was good. Trying to stop it as the reading ive done about side effects isnt to good. Never had Lithium and dont think I want to as regular blood tests are required. Not actually sure what Im going to try next to be honest. Im glad things are going well for you. Have you ever had eating issues with the medications or Libido issues if you dont mind me asking? As some meds can effect both those areas which also isnt good either. Thanks and tke care❤
I feel your pain. Been there. Do the carnivore diet. Seriously. Try it for 30 days. Your mind will be blown. I’m on carnivore diet and zero medications. I don’t need them but you have to stick with it. It takes a lot of discipline but once you start feeling super good, you won’t want to quit. Good luck! Just trying to spread the awareness. NO PSYCH DR will ever tell you about this. Drs are not even taught hardly nothing with nutrition. Only drugs drugs drugs! Why?? Because drugs and big pharma is a CASH COW! It’s SAD!
Thank you for posting this. I may be prescribed lithium this week and I’m scared.
Hi! You’re not alone 🫶🏻 it’s not easy starting a new med and it can be scary but at least from experience when I found the right one (in my case lithium) my quality of life truly improved! Make sure to be vocal with your doctor on any changes you feel or any side effects. Best of luck :)
I had tried various medications over the years but nothing stabilised my mood. I then decided to take Lithium and my mood stabilised. I have been on it for almost 10 years. Best thing I ever did.
@@aasmahsohbat4557 thank you. I started it 4 days ago... I am more scared that it doesn't work... Putting on weight too
@@lilyjane1011
I did gain some weight but that was due to bad eating habits. If you incorporate a good diet into your routine you can maintain a healthy weight. For me I had to choose between weight gain and quality of life. I would choose the latter every time. My life has improved significantly.
Hi. Did you experienced severe hair loss and acne like rashes due to lithium? I'm currently facing it 😭
Man, I'm so mad I got on wellbutrin 3 days ago, and I started feeling good, but I now have a rash on my right hip !
I have bipolar 1, ADD, and Generalized anxiey disorder..I didn't know people made videos like this so thankyou! Every since I was a kid I was having anxiety attacks, emotional rollercoaster, depressed, manic, hyper, shy, and angry. I finally told my parents I need to see a therapist when I was 15! I am glad. I am 27 now and work full time, and i college.
Currently I have been taking more than normal amount of drugs. Normally I ONLY take lamotrigine but I just was suicideal, spent 1200 on fillers (a non-surgical rhinoplasty) and dyed some of my hair purple and have been super angry lately. So now and the last 2 months I take every morning all at once: 200 mg lamotrigine, 2mg lorazepam, 100 mg Seroquel. And 300mg Gapapentin twice a day as needed for anxiety. I also utilize marijuana
Is marijuana help bipolardisorder i want to know about this
Marijuana triggered my mania and I was hospitalized for 4 months
@@daniifeanyi1897marijuana is literally THE worst drug out there for bipolar! It sends me into a severe paranoia panic attack like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. You feel like you are slowly losing your entire mind and going insane/dying! I really don’t understand someone who TRULY has bipolar and can actually feel better from marijuana. No f***ing thank you.
I felt a lot pannic attacs and like afraid all the time with lithium also i got sick from my vejiga i started to go unormally to the bathroom
I have never been as sick with a medication than on seroquel. Worst nightmares of my life, would wake up far too early because of it, constant obsession with food, would eat non stop, terrible qtomach pains and so on...
After many years of Lithium I started getting Ispidous Diabetes - urinating through out the night. Kidney problems so I had to stop Luthium. I also know a 22yr old whose kidneys packed up due to Lithium.
Does he need a transplant
That happened to me too with lithium I left it 15 years after but I am still
Sick going t the bathroom
I’m back after 11 month that been commented on this video my doctor just put me on olanzapine 7 weeks ago I feel more stable and no longer anxious like before
began medication 2 weeks ago in a mixed state. Llithium, zyprexa and zoloft plus sleep meds when needed.
The less medications, the better...
Better use one at a time, give it time to work, then put on a second medication and so on...
What's your current dosage for lithium mine is 900mg. I started 8 weeks ago.
I hurd bad things about Zyprexa plz look it up
For me and my Bipolar 2 the combination of 600mg of Lithium and 2.5mg of zypraxia has helped stabilise my mood.
october I cut 40% of my lithium and quit everything but occasional sleep meds. In February I made radical change to my life situations by going to Africa. I returned late April, soon realised my mental problem was a family "solution". A role I hadn't even know, consciously.... I was playing. I quit, both my role and the rest of my Lithium three months ago. I still fall, loose hope, get stuck in fear but rarely more than for hours and I get stronger with every time I get back up, every step I take and every boundary I manage to set and uphold against toxic/abusive behaviours wherever it comes from.
No depression except the first week back home and I have not been even close to hypomania for more than two years. Its taken years but I have finally healed my both my Bipolar and my ADHD and in September I am going back to the mother land. The home that took me 61 years to find 🙏🇰🇪❤️
Your beautiful and smart! Tx
At this point all mood stabilizers I’ve tried are not cutting it and I just wanna try lithium I have nothing to lose and the pros seems to outway the cons I’m done being scared bro
Don't be scared. Love from Spain.
I also went manic after about 4 months of fluoxetine (Prozac)
It’s so hard to go through that. You’re not alone :)
@@victoriafernandezmh thank you. In the process of being diagnosed so all is good here x
Hi Victoria, hope you don’t mind me asking, but have you found Lamotrigine it be energizing and motivating? I am a BDII sufferer and suffer with lack of both these two issues.
Would love to hear from you, cheer,
Also, appreciate you posting your journey and experience.
is it okay to take lamotrigine with citalopram?Ive been having mood swings all year but have only been diagnosed with major depression
I take Lamotrigine with Escitalopram and I have bipolar 2. If you have unipolar depression I would ask my doctor why I'm on a mood stabilizer such as Lamotrigine
Victoria that is what I take Seroquel and Lamotrigine. I've been taking for about 3 years or so and I like the stability and stuff but I don't like the side effects. I wonder if I should try Lithium too. I thought Lithium was only for BP 1 people?
Hi! :) I would consult with your doctor, it has worked for me but of course everyone is different
I thought Lithium was also for Bipolar 1 not 2. I might be wrong
@@anthonymiller6081 it is mostly used for bipolar 1.
Did they ever try to see if you have Bipolar 3 (basically medication gives you bipolar symptoms but once those meds are discontinued you no longer experience bipolar symptoms?)
They did not! Had not heard about that actually, but my symptoms showed a lot through the mood swings and depression but that anti depressant really made it evident!
Hi I’m interested, do you have anything to read about this?
Hi, Lithium is well known for causing acne. Can u share how u cured ur acne problem?
Hi! I worked with my doctor to lower the meds a bit as well as going on birth control pills that helped control :) make sure to talk to your doctor to see what options there are that work best for you!
Nanakris Doggie; Lithium is also notorious 4 causing psoriasis. When I was on Lithium less than 38 yrs ago, I developed adult on-set psoriasis. Though I had 2 relatives (both on my mom's side) who had psoriasis (was wrongfully informed that my psoriasis was hereditary), neither 1 had it medication-induced; mine was.
My doctor might prescribe me lithium. The abilify he gave me isn’t working with my mood instability and upped my dosage to 15mg. He thinks I may have bipolar disorder type 2 but I think it’s borderline personality being that my mood swings are faster.
lithium w klonopin was the best mix for me. but I can’t take it now cause I take an anti inflammatory in the daily. hopefully I can take it again one day
Lithium cause kidney failure long term please watch out
@@AverageJoe1006 great I already have kidney issues smh thanks for info
@@ericayoung9504 doctors should test on your kidneys before giving lithium. I was only short on it but i couldnt stand the constant need to drink and the increased urination and those tablets are gross to swallow. I am now on 100 mg lamictal not sure what it does though but i experience less side effects then lithium. But i am a recovering opiod addict so maybe my brains need more time to balance out. They think i have bp2 but after so many diagnoses and still dont know for sure. Mental health problems i hate them. 🤯🔫
@@AverageJoe1006 that’s interesting. I was on that for a while I think that’s the one they say sometimes gives ppl a rash? I don’t remember it doing much. idk I have a chronic muscle condition so that effects my kidneys as well idk it’s hard finding balance lol
Lamictal is good for bipolar depression, was that the case for you?
*And did that help with anhedonia?, if you had it
What dose of lithium are you on? Right now the low dose effects me pretty roughly
450, I used to take 900, but with the guidance of my doctor I’ve been able to take it down!
what serum blood level of lithium does 450mg give you? and what is the minimum therapeutic range for lithium?
I have by polar tipe 2 and so scared of meds I have lots of eager I can't stan noise I always want quiet at all timeS :( I need help
Try olanzapine and lamictal both.
Yes!!! That's me right now. So saddened by not living.

Hello - can you please tell me the name of your doctor. My daughter has Bipolar Disorder II and we need a good doctor for her. Please help. Thanks
Dear it’s not an answer. Try diet Keto or carnivore please just don’t start medication I’ve been on them 25 years doesn’t work.
in my opinion seraquel is the worst medication to take.
I think it works for some people, but personally for me it wasn’t always the best. It did help me reach stability though
Serqual has been amazing for me. Sleep good and wake up great. I take 600mg day n night. And 50mg during the day if I start spinning during the day? Bipolar type 2
I love seroquil but I work mornings so I have to take it on my days off and it helps me catch up on sleep. But if I tried taking it daily I would not be able to function so yeah I can see why youd hate it.
Was horrible for me
Wow and you can function normaly with so huge dose?😊@@michelledalzell7187
We cant control the thoughts, excpecialy people with ocd..😊
It’s so hard! But we can learn tools to make it easier :)
@@victoriafernandezmh it is still impossible to control something that is intrusive, like intrusive thoughts, imagies..but yes if brain an d other parts doing good, we can change the focus, ect..
All the best ;)
Quetiapine/ seroquel does nothing for my depression. No bipolarmed ever did and ssri makes me crazy
I can t imagine going through this doctors pills!!!! Pffffffffffffffft Pffffffffffffffft
Did your acne go away?
I currently take Latuda, Wellbutrin, lexapro and Klonopin. I also am on adhd medication along with some other things.
Oh man… 😢
I had depression and anxiety and panic attacks between 2019 and 2020 my first medication was Xanax for sleep then I come off it then took olanzapine for 2 weeks and feel euphoric for the first time stoped it and still didn’t diagnosed with bipolar but I don’t feel myself at all what should I do ??
You should go to a psychiatrist to see what could be causing you to feel like that and find solutions :) it’s good that you are self aware, that will help so much in feeling better
How many people with bipolar has tonscilectomy?? Answer almost 70 percent
😮 I did when I was 13 and adenoids
hi gorgeous im don
i have bipolar type 2 disorder
With all the side effects I’m convinced it’s not worth taking medications at all.
It depends yeah
Thanks god there is medication
@@elyousfi5661 lol
i take effexor and abilify, but im gonna ask about getting on buspar next psych visit
I dont recommend lithium you get worst from your health than before on other things maybe they should look alternatives
I think your right all meds suck to be honest. I don't think ther3 is actually 1 single medication that doesn't have side effects from weight gain, sexual side effects, tremors, headaches, sweating, just about everything. What did people do years ago without Meds,
So beautiful you are ❤
Quit with touching your hair, just sayin.
You are not helpful.
