Intake Upgrade! 2020 L5P Duramax 6.6 Silverado
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- In this video we're performing some upgrades to the engine air intake and turbo piping on a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 SRW with the 6.6 Duramax Turbo Diesel. The customer has supplied us with a Banks Power intake with extra large filter as well as a Banks turbo pipe kit for the L5P Duramax. The turbo pipes are a larger diameter than the stock components and the turbo air inlet horn and Banks air filters massive size will reduce air restriction to the compressor inlet. In upcoming videos we install a Banks Ram air rear diff cover with Amsoil lubricant a Banks Power DPF back exhaust. Next will be a Banks iDash and Derringer Tuner, with Pedal Monster

Glad Troy and Dave were finally able to get the Subaru back together and running. Looks like it was successful since the hood was down. Must be a huge relief after all of the drama with the car.
Dave's not here man.
Beat me to it man@@clbcl5

Yes, nice to see it done. And in record time too. Only took 4 months. Customer must be very happy. 5 star rating for sure!
@@scott.koopmannThat's right. Because while we get the back story the customer just gets told to wait. Don't try that in Ray's shop.
A Banks Buffet. Nice
Nothing beats AMSOIL fluids
12:40 But the whole point of those clamps is so you can put it in the grooves and then just push it into place. It's a quick connect.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to want to see the Subaru come back to life
The entire Banks catalog in the back seat. Sweet!!!!!

Thats A Banks Buffet right there heck yeah 😮 0:28 @Rainman Ray's Repairs
I saw a Banks short on why you need that correction controller on their AirRam intakes... The intake being larger means that you get lower velocity of the air going past the sensor which throws its readings off and can cause an engine management light + limp condition. To combat this, most manufacturers add a velocity stack into the intake which reduces the internal volume but solves the MAF value correction problem.
Instead of doing this, Gale and his team created the MAF correction device so that it sits inline and pulls the readings off the MAF, corrects the values to make sure they're being reported back correctly then feeds them to the ECM, meaning you can have far bigger intakes and not have problems with the MAF failing to pull accurate numbers.
Clever stuff :)
Saw the same video from Banks
Thus far all of Banks bolt on goodies are clever stuff.
Its funny but the same idea they've done on the rearend cover can be done on a transmission bottom plate as well as an oil pan
Forcing the air around the unit helps remove heat better, less heat less friction cooler working componets longer life becuse it has less stress on it.
Plus they just look cool.
I see a lot of stuff aimed at trucks, be nice to see it aimed at cars also.
But honestly I havnt looked.
But with trucks of you can add hp you can also get better gas mileage
And lower emmisions.
Most factory intakes muf the sound.
I put in an after market air intake system & my car wouldn't run it was getting to much air had to pull the intake system😢
@@michaelpressman7203 ouch
To somewhat be expected though because of how modern motors are designed. Their ECMs expect specific parameters and they throw codes if just one of those parameters is out of acceptable bounds. Especially for MAF, MAP, EGT and O2
Hey 👋🏻 Ray. The younger generation has no clue about the character of the Shadow. I know about the Shadow. I also know that the Shadow knows. 😆

We always used a bit of soapy water to lube the hoses. That makes them slide easily.
I've used tire lube...
Where you at bro? Two days no video day, we need 2 videos per day... 1-morning & 1-evening would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! That way I can watch during breakfast and during supper!😁🙂😄
Nice to see the Subaru ready for the road once again. Will be nice to see the Banks items wake up this truck.
Dude ain't play'en! Throwing the Banks catalog at it. Gonna need to get the REAL Allison after all that with the controller.
I've never used lube on Intercooler boots. I use cheap hairspray. It lubes the boot long enough to slide it in place. As the alcohol evaporates, it leave a lacquer behind the helps glue the boots in place reducing the chance of blowing them off. This also works on replacing cycle grips and even golf club grips.
Breakclean works the same.👍
Late, somewhat off topic comment. The neon 'Ray's' sign should go up near the Interstate banner. It's half hidden where it is now.
A trick I have learned when dealing with these silicone boots is to spray it all with 409 cleaner. It acts like an assembly lube and makes thing easier to assemble and when it dries make the boost stick to the pipes and other things very well.
Welcome to project Duramax
I don't know about anyone else. But I get excited when I hear ray say the words. Multi part video!!!!!!!
No apologies necessary. Feel better, Brother.
I wish I lived way closer to you to give my 6 point no the Rainman treatment
Hope you feel better, brother. Smart man knows his limits.
Good morning @Rainman Ray's Repairs
I’ve seen so many Duramax destruction videos, it’s good to see one where the object is to improve one, rather than eliminate it.
Ray I hope you're feeling better and absolutely want to see all the install.
"Low on gumption"
I haven't heard that said since I left the UK 47 years ago!! Hope you feel better soon.
Banks upgrade is the best.
MOAR UPGRADE VIDEOS!!!1!11!
Seriously, these are cool. The diagnostic videos are great, but this is a nice wrinkle to the norm. Keep up the great work!
Good to see in a relatively short period of time your business has done so well you could afford more employees. The Banks cold air intake is well engineered design in comparison to some vehicles you worked on,where I asked what where they thinking.Hope you feel better Have a great weekend
Take care of yourself - health is one the imporatnt things in life. Thanks for video.
Right Cheer ( here) and right Chair ( there ), as they say in Texas !!
Please make a video of the mower repair!
Your attention to detail is what separates you from other mechanics
Hope you're feeling better and it isn't the dreaded 2019 plague.
The air control adapter thingy is so it reads air flow correctly with the new diameter of the pipe. Otherwise it will read less air than in reality and you'll run lean.
Hope you ended up feeling ok. The day I watched this video my family members started to be ill one-by-one each day until we were all home sick over the weekend. But all back at it by Monday. Happens.
The owner of this particular Silvery-raido certainly has good taste in parts and petroleum fluids.
Yes, the more petrol burning the better. I hope he gets a extra smoker to proof his value for your local oil baron.

Thanks for the great video…”Click!” Love the torque wrench!
Ray should be rest assured that if he should ever (God forbid) lose functionality in his right arm his livelihood will not be affected. Left hand power! 👊🏼💪🏼😂😂
Not a Banks fan. If you really want OMG power, Delete, Tune, straight pipe and high flow injectors. If you still want more, bolt a bigger turbo on. Banks makes nice stuff, better than OEM. I think most people think it will turn their truck into a monster, It wont. Doing what I mentioned above will. I do have the K&N oil filter. I might throw that away. It is a PITA to clean on a diesel. Spent 30 minutes picking dead bugs out of the folds. Gas versions have much smaller folds. I also kept all my original parts.
Happy to see you doing this beautiful tunning work dude 👍🏻👌🏻
Ray, your health is your #1 priority. You may not feel it now, but when you are60 ,all the abuse you subjected your body to will hit you with a vengeance. Trust me, if I knew what would happen to me 40 years ago, I would have done many things differently. But enough of that, it seems like your shop has become the unofficial Banks installation center! Can't wait to see the rest of the install !!
P.S., good bye Rubasu !!! Bet you will be glad to see that nightmare out the door !
Take care of yourself. I would have liked to have seen the Rubasu’s engine’s install. It is like watching a TV series that left you dangling.
I’m normally a viewer and not much of a commenter, but, your always playing banger music!
7:13 "Who Knew? The Shadow knew." _He knows what evil lies in the hearts of engineers!_
Nice show Ray, that airbox seal was definitely off centre causing your airbox tilt, suspect it fits to something but couldn't see how? Anyway looking forward to the rest of the upgrades and accessories. I do like that Amsoil I have put it in my LAND ROVER Discovery 4. The engine has never ran so smooth 😎
I suspect that tightening the one screw at the front of the box could have created enough of an angle to throw thge geometry off for the back screws. WHen he snugged up two screws that probably made things even worse. The rubber gasket is pretty thick and the more it is compressed on the front the more force it will take to push the back end down enough to line up the screws on the back.
I work 6 days a week and just found time to check these out to the end. Love the work and I’m so excited to see the end results with everything installed. Please take care of your health, things that harm one’s health can sneak up on ya and activate body gravity. Looking forward to the end results.
You ok ray? Everybody has an off day now n then. Recover soon! Gotta have our ray everyday!😊
Feel better Ray.
hope you get to feeling better and don't have the crud. I'm looking forward to your intercooler install as I also have '20 high country duramax with the Banks Ram Air, Derringer, Pedal Monster, Differ Cover and dpf back ehaust upgrade already. I've ordered the intercooler tubes and should be here later this week. Can't wait to see the results on your project. Keep up the great vids! They're a daily staple for me.
Up here in the north its starting to be allergies season , I have to remember to take allergy pills our Ill be suffering . I hope you feel better, and good job on the Subaru guys 👍👍👍
A before performance parts test drive would’ve been nice to compare to after 🙂
Literally does nothing except make your truck pull faster
Great job so far, yes go home and take care of yourself get better.
Funny watching him struggle with the air box. Ray’s usually such a pedant about threading all bolts before tightening any, it’s nice to see him forget and cause himself a problem, occasionally.
on expensive components with danger of stripping he hand threads, rest of times he ignores design engineers instructions.
You better do the other videos! I’m going to one day do all this to my Duramax. Just waiting for that lotto ticket to hit.
work for Banks.
@@SimrKherayeah that’s what I’ve done. I was kidding about the lotto ticket,LOL. I’ve installed the iDash, Derringer, and Ram Air. I have the pedal monster sitting on my bench for a day off. The Ram Air is kind of a pain to install, as Ray showed here. The intake hose doesn’t fit into the lower half cleanly and causes issues trying to align the box with the cover.
At 00:20:25 I see that bottom clamp bolt thread on the red pipe was rubbing on a flex hose. It might rub through with vibrations.
u eagle vision mechanic.

Good morning Ray. Banks bonanza of parts going on the Chevy. This will be a fantastic video.
Oh cool! He got the swamp sucker intake.
Must be Covid. haha. Hope you're feeling better soon. We need to see how that $100,000++ truck is modified. Your new shop is coming along really well.
Nice looking make-over so far Ray. That intake sensor in-line widget in the cable extension may very well be a simple recalibration of the OEM sensor scale so that the car computer does not have to jump through hoops, or need parameters altered to correctly figure mixture and so forth.
Banks UA-cam channel has a short detailing the intake scoop in more detail.
I read about it, it’s a recalibration module to adjust for the larger MAF tube

Yes I'd like too see the rest of the installment of the components love to see it finished and how it sounds.
Good to see the Subaru being finished. Hope you get feeling better.
congratulation on your success
thankyou Ray,youve made a fine job of that,,hope your feeling better,,👍💪
those wire clips are quick connect, so you put them in the grooves, as you slide it on it rides the angle of the connector which spreads the clips open then it snaps into place when it hits the groove. 15:24
the new pop up ads are a big PITA, but your content is fine as always...
Thank you for the update on the Subaru! 😊
i aint even gonna lie i totally thought he was working on his struck since i saw baanks😂
I put a PedalMonster on my 06 Corvette. It woke it up a lot.
That AFM decoder is BANKS secret sauce - it adjusts the AFM signal in correlation with the increased air intake diameter. Other intake systems have “choke points” at the AFM module to bring the diameter down to stock size at the AFM in order to give the ECM correct readings.
so it is all for looks, no effect on power?
@@forgetfulme1719 Max achievable efficiency gain of Banks system without choke point > that of a system with a choke point. Just a better design, not to say that these other systems do nothing.
get well soon ray!

One thing that make Ray one of the coolest guys around is the fact he will install parts that the person supplied . Nobody around here does that at all ( North West Florida ) that I can find . They say " Well , we need to buy the stuff so it is warrantied " . I junked a car because they wouldn't use my parts . LOL I made some money from the car and the parts and they made nothing .
Feel better.
That banks turner will help mpgs for sure, but real butt dyno gains come from the banks pedal monster.
Greetings and Happy Holidays. I really enjoy and appreciate all of the content that you create and publish on UA-cam. At 14:12 in this video, there is a cut edit in which you swapped the straight cold side upper sleeve for the shorter hump sleeve. I am having a helluva time getting the cold side kit to fit on my 2024 duramax and have called Banks several times, specifically to address the upper straight sleeve which appears to be too long and makes it impossible to complete the cold side install per Banks' instructions. I'd sure appreciate any comments you might have on your experience with the cold side piping and specifically on why you ended up installing hump sleeves top and bottom. Thanks again for all of the great content.
Ray you have to take care of yourself to be able to help others! hope you get to feeling better soon
Feel better Ray

Banks parts are good if you're worried about being emissions compliant. My newest newest vehicle is 30 years old, so all it needs to roll down the road is a registration and insurance.
