ATG recommendations drain & fill the first time. 2nd time after 117 miles, drain & fill. 3rd time after 117: drain, drop pan, remove filter, remove gasket, install good filter, clean pan, installs gasket fill. Now you have clean filter & 100 new fluid. Because if you only do it one time, the old transmission fluid is still in the crank/gear assy. At the first start up, the filter sees old transmission fluid. Basically you are doing half passed job like many dishonest shops.
thanks for the video, but why risk snapping old bolts & causing yourself a massive headache over 200ml of fluid? filter doesn't need to be changed either
After replacing the filter and ATF I hearing a squeaky noise from transmission, did you face any thing like this ? I used ATF from mazada dealer but the filter from Orileys
hi, i just bought a cx7 and the transmission fluid is gold, it doesnt look dirty just gold, exactly looks like engine oil. car goes fine. what colour was the new fluid? ive never seen golden fluid before. have you?
@@deadbugdoug yeah, this what i also know but this is gold like new engie oil, infact thats exactly what it looks like. golden and clear. it looks like someone replaced the fluid with oil. Have you ever heard of a product this colour. it doesn't look like dirty oil. My wife has gone for the weekend but ill put up a pic soon
@@deadbugdoug was thinking the same, drop the pan, replace filter then do a full flush. Im thinking that someone who is smart enough to do even a quarter fluid change, surely would have the brains to put the right fluid in though. Having sad that, i have not found anything referencing a gold coloured fluid on google, just dirty brown. But honestly it looks like clean gold to me. Strange eh? Thanks for your help. You earned your sub just now :) Ive got a few vids you may find interesting, but tbh ive been slacking off lately
Great video 👍 Very helpful. I’m curious to know if this helped your shutter problem. Mine has a very slight shutter between 1st & 2nd too. I used Valvoline Full-Synthetic on mine and it seems to have made it shift a little bit more smooth but not by much. I have yet to replace my filter though. That’s next
@@deadbugdoug I got it off. The technique I used was prying the screwdriver 🪛 in then twisting it, continuing around the edge. QUESTION: Did your pan have an actual gasket? I purchased mine certified used with about 65k miles on it & the pan ONLY had a red silicon gasket. Shouldn’t that say that the previous owner had the transmission serviced?
@@paulv8453 I believe my 2011 CX-7 has the same style gasket you’re talking about. I’ve never dropped the pan but have done ATF changes on mine, and I also noticed this. Had it since new also.
@@deadbugdoug Got it. I am thinking about doing this, but the more I think about it, the more I realize we don't have much reference data on the effect of drain and fills. It sounds intuitive that changing transmission fluid would increase the life of the transmission. But to really prove it, we should have evidence of two cars: one that undergoes frequent drain and fills and another on original ATF and see which one lasts longer. Point I am making is that there is some probability that changing trans fluid could shorten life of trans - just that there is no data to prove or disprove that. On example of how changing ATF fluid might shorten life of trans depends on tolerances for how much ATF is in the transmission. If the measuring technique you show here is off by +-2%, is that enough to cause transmission damage? Does the amount of damage that that causes overwhelm the good from new fluid? In this case, the fluid itself didn't cause the problem (it might have helped), but it's the imprecision of measuring the amount of fluid that does it (which is something not commonly discussed on most drain and fill videos).

After 117??
Yes nice Job!, by all means, thanks for posting...have to work on mine this weekend.

Hola, gracias por el vídeo... No tenía idea del filtro.
Did you have to put a solution on the oil pan for the gasket?

Mazda M5 fluid is red. It will turn gold/brown when it gets old.

@@DadSkool could be a generic fluid I guess. I would just drain the fluid and replace it. Filter is optional.

it did help but did not eliminate it. it was Unnoticeable to most people.
@@deadbugdoug Thanks. How are you able to pry the pan off? I’m using a flat screwdriver 🪛 & I’m bending the lip.
A big screwdriver. Find a spot that you can pound it in with a hammer a little.

How many miles has it been since you did this? Trying to see if there are any adverse effects.
Its been about 5000 miles and no problems.

Mine does a jerk on first gear just when you first step on the gas. Do you think I need to replace transmission oil and filter too?
If it's never been done it's a good idea.
Did the rubber gasket worked good?, from factory it comes with RTV
Yes it worked fine. Put something on the pan so the gasket does not move during installation
Thanks! 👍
where do you add the fluid ?
Where the ATF dipstick is. Just below and to the left of the brake master cylinder if I’m picturing my engine bay correctly
What's the size of the crush washer?
What type of transmission fluid does it take
Depends on the transmission you have. Mine takes Mazda M5 fluid.
@@deadbugdoug Or Amsoil multivehicle 100% synthetic ATFMV ,Mazda M5 is not synthetic.
Hi mate do you have part number of filter?
I used Beck Arnley 044 0393
M5 for 7 dollars a Quart 🤔 the cheapest I found is nearly 20 dollars a Quart 😮💨
