You really do an amazing job at teaching and making these videos. I hope you know that your effort and work is seriously making a huge difference for so many people
If aluminum and chlorine are both satisfied with their lone pairs and bonds, then why does the chlorine on the alkyl halide attack the aluminum to begin with? They start with no formal charges, then the chlorine attacks to make them both unsatisfied.
I agree that it doesn't look favorable, at first glance. However, because the aluminum has less than an octet of electrons, it is more electron deficient than the chlorine and therefore susceptible to attack.
Thanks for the recommendation. I post free videos as I have time and am always looking for suggestions. For more help with this topic in the meantime, contact me through my website: leah4sci.com/contact
That's a great idea for another video, thank you. The reaction is the same as acylation. the problem is that you're dealing with an unstable aryl carbocation which wouldn't really form, so you'd have to find another way to get this desired product
Seriously, you are the best in explaining these reactions
Aww, thanks so much!

Lol wanna substitute a class for our proff?? 🤭
:), thanks! But if I did that, I wouldn’t be able to help as many students!
Organic Chemistry is pain in the ash.
Many other students feel your pain. I hope that my videos can make it just a little bit easier!
@@Leah4sci Yes. Thank you :-)
today we learned that chlorine is a dick
it sure can be 🤣
give your atoms human characteristics and you're more likely to remember what they do and how they behave
