It's never meant to be a full remake, it's basically just a patch to make the game playable on a PC with a bonus of better textures and a bonfire in catacombs. I hope SOTE dlc will bring some pc fixes to elden ring.

I have used this mod and I have some pro and cons. Shiny surfaces, detailed textures and such are gorgeous, I could not say what place is better than another. I think the best you would see in the Crystal Cave and in New Londo. But generally speaking every level is very good. I have some few cons: 1) sometimes open spaces with sun might result "overexposed" (for example the gardens in DLC have too much light... blue Golems become almost white or the places with Lava.. you need sunglasses) 2) sometimes things shine, but they should not shine... like for example grass. Shiny grass is weird, but it affects the DLC areas and not the main locations.. which is somehow strange. 3) On the other extreme, some places are too dark.. for example Anor Londo with the Dark Moon is for sure WAY TOO DARK... there is no moon at all. The original is beyond doubt better with the moonlight. However usual dark places like the Chasm of Abyss and the Catacombs and Blighttown are outstanding, simply outstanding! 4) I have signaled minor errors with the textures or "bugs" if you can call them. It's mixed with more pros than cons, it could be slightly improved. If they fix these small issues is a must to enjoy DS1.

It looks a little off. Like firelink shrine for example. The shadows are too crisp and look fake almost. It might be that the bonfire was not producing light to make those shadows fade.

The DS remaster was even a downgrade to the original in many regards, some areas specifically in the archive just had the lighting completely broken and non-existent. 40$ for that travesty was a crime.

something awesome bout this mood is that in the original dark souls and even the remastered version a BIG part of what makes the world great is the enter connected level design and a huge part of that was getting to see parts of the map u cant reach yet ahead of time like seeing the duke's archives from sen's fortress or seeing the great hollow from fire link shrine but as much as seeing these places is great they are mostly kinda blured out or look foggy mainly due to hard wear limitations but this mod makes looking at far away places look fantastic
The thing that fascinates me the most is that they added the tree into the intro cutscene when u land in Firelink. If you never noticed the tree is missing from the actual cutscene itself. Awesome!
Been following the mod creator for a bit. There have been some... interesting ideas over the course of the mod's development (BrightRoot Garden being a notable example). But the end result is really cool and it's been fun to see the development process. Can't say I agree with every decision made but it's definitely a welcome addition that breathes new life into the game.
Ive played hundreds of hours of ds1, ive watched soooo much content on youtube about ds1 and people playing it, and to this day I HAVE NEVER ever seen someone kill the boar with fire by using the alluring skulls. awesome
I've been following Fromsoftserve's channel for a while now and one of his main goals was to make sure you could see the places you were headed loaded in properly and looked believable. He put a lot of effort into just with walls of undead burg and so on. Its incredible honestly.
Personally I would pay full price for DS1, DS2, DS3 and Bloodborne if they would get the Demon Souls remake treatment. Not gonna happen but I would love that. At least the community is doing somethin about it, kudos.
"brand new textures" IIRC Fromsoftserve said they simply edited and tweaked the original textures to make them all *pop* more. They're also working on something similar for DS3, significantly reducing the "specularity" on most textures to stop everything looking so wet
I do this all the time too but if you go behind an enemy and you lock on they kind of sense it and turn arround, if you want to get the backstab always do it unlocked!
Looking at what you've shown, I think this mod is yet another example of people misunderstanding what a Remaster should do. Polishing up the graphics is the easy part. The hard part is smoothing out the original's flaws while still remaining true to it. And it seems like when push comes to shove, people aren't willing to admit that Dark Souls, while a masterpiece, is by no means a perfect game. When I played through Daughters of Ash, that was what I was hoping that mod would do for the second half of the game at least. Sadly, while DoA has plenty to offer and really toys with your feelings, it also hides much of it's best content - for example, initially it seemed like the DLC was now properly integrated into the core progression, but on a blind playthrough, you will almost certainly trigger the vanilla version of it.
love how prod is talking about the shine and glisten more than anything but shine in a lot of these instances isnt even a good thing. why are dragon feet glistening like oil/metal? The armor of most things in dark souls shouldnt be shiny, its not well maintained and been neglected for centuries. Thats one of the reasons at the end of the game seeing the silver knights instead of the black knights hits so well. Backs on hollows shouldnt rlly be super shiny either, they are dried and shriveled not sweaty and oiled up. Stuff like this doesnt make the aesthetic or overall look better at all/
I'm not a fan. The darks are too dark and that's gunna be a problem, cause the bane of my existence for the past 25 years have been LED/LCD screens and their incredible "darks". They make playing games and watching movies half-impossible sometimes- especially SCI-Fi and horror. I love CRTs, but the sizes and refresh is a problem these days, so OLED's been my saving grace.
Seems like this mod literally just reverts the lighting back to PTDE lighting. Which is good because it was objectively better. Shit blew my mind when I loaded up Remastered for the first time and everything looked matte as fuck, zero gloss barely any reflection in any of the metals anymore.
Very nice looking mod, i think with a little more tweaking on the materials and textures so characters look a little less moist and this will be the definitive way to play dark souls. The lightning is really impressive even if a bit dark in some areas, especially impressive with as often as the source/direction drastically shifts between zones, must've been a lot of work for the author to get looking good throughout.
Was really hoping this meant they put in the side quests that from was never able to complete but had all the voice lines for buried in the games code I’d love a mod that did those like shiva hunting the chaos blade from u and a lot of the other npcs that they had more plans for

mod's not new, it's just been getting constant update for years and finally released version 1.0. The mod also removes LOD, that's why you can actually see everything from far away.

Dark Souls PTDE did not run on my laptop. Dark Souls Remastered did. So I'd say it was a pretty substantial remastered upgrade, personally.
