I wholehearted agree your sentiments about Cyberpunk, it's quite honestly one of the greatest settings that I've played in a long time. The devs and artist did an amazing job, hell there is an npc in the Afterlife bar with really amazing tattoo work and CELLULITE in her legs! Its just a damn shame that the executives did a bad job on handling the departments and the marketing cause you can tell some areas had a ton of work and some not. Cyberpunk is just a beautiful mess and I love it.
Thanks for your perspective on the Cyberpunk situation. As someone who also does concept art for games, it really breaks my heart to see people ripping into the studio after all the people who have worked so hard and put so much thought into the product. My heart really breaks for the devs as I've had titles release in a not optimal state so I can really relate to how this probably feels for the majority of CDPR team. Thanks for your work this year, it's been amazing.

It's been in my cart for at least 5 months now - the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger is because they haven't put it on sale (and it's a bit on the expensive side). When you buy tons of books then you try to get them as cheap as possible. Rest assured it's coming soon!
You should take a look at the Art and making of Control. An amazing game with beautiful architecture designs and a super good storyline too! Although the book is not available in Canada yet ( if you’re able to grab a copy, take one for me too 😉), when it is I highly recommend you take a look at it and play the game too. Second suggestion is Hellblade: Senua’s sacrifice. I don’t think they made a book about the artwork behind it, but they made a dev blog which is pretty thorough in the artistic development behind the visuals of the game. If you haven’t played it yet it’s a must Those two games are in the few select games that I sometimes stopped and looked around just because the scenery, architecture or the mind bending effect they achieved in the level development was so beautiful. Keep up the good work, love your videos!
Thanks for the book reviews and happy new year in advance to you and your family Addam! :) I haven't tried cyberpunk yet not because of the bugs, but because I doubt my 5 years old laptop will survive anything passed the title screen and because of the lack of time: I still haven't finished Doom Eternal and only passed the "tutorial area" or the Witcher 3 the last time I played it (which was...2 or 3 years ago?)! I doubt I'll have more time in the future, but I'll definitely have to try it! I have only heard good things about the story, art direction and world building of Cyberpunk, and how organic everything feels. I remember one reviewer saying "here they didn't simply design a "poor suburb", then a "rich suburb", etc, and put them in different places of the map. They thought about what is the rich suburb doesn't work, the rich leave, some gangs or poor classes take over and make it their own place? How would that translate in terms of design, how do we show the history of that place?". I am rather worried for the employers who, after working in crunch mode for months (years?), will probably now be asked to crunch even more, and could be laid off if the game doesn't sell well enough while the high managers/CEO/etc won't have much to worry about, but I am no expert. Hopefully I'm wrong. (I couldn't help but giggle at the 5min mark: don't try to hide that book, we've all recognized the music! :) )
Thank you for supporting Cyberpunk Adam. Yes there are bugs and cut features, but I just finished the game in my PS5 last night, and it was such an emotional experience. The design and story is what saves the game, everything else I believe can be patched out. So I’m sticking with the game so I can see through all the updates and expansions. The world and characters are just too good to ignore, I haven’t experienced characters this real in my history of gaming. When Judy’s storyline came to an end for my Male V, I felt such an emptiness like I just said goodbye to a good friend. It was heartbreaking and I just realized, Judy felt so real to me. She didn’t feel like a cartoon, not some anime character, she really felt like a best friend that I may never see again. So I’m sticking with it the same way I stuck with No Mans Sky and A Realm Reborn. When NMS dropped, everyone hated it, it was worse than the cyberpunk situation. But the game I played was beautiful, relaxing, artistic and I saw the potential and I stuck with it. And now look at NMS, I would say they surpassed their vision. I have the same feeling about Cyberpunk 2077.
I'm just starting off my art book collection and your channel has pointed me to some wonderful ones! Thank you for sharing your love for them. Btw did anyone else try to slow down the speed of Adam's rant and get a slightly slower and angry sounding mouse haha 😂
Thanks, Adam. I do love the LOTR books as well, they're some of the first artbooks I bought back almost 20 years ago (whoa) and treasure them to this day. Some of that artwork still circle around my head when I think of fantasy stuff, weapons, armor, places, regular objects and utensils (mugs, etc.), but the Hobbit books weren't as enticing, so I didn't get them. I think they didn't have as much artwork as I wanted or expected. I would want to flip through them some day, though, after seeing them open on your desk. On the Souls/Borne series, gah, they're fantastic, no pun intended (or maybe a little bit. :D), but besides that, it's incredible how stylistically cohesive those games are. They're awesome. The CP2077 and the Horizon books are gorgeous, I agree. Can't wait til I can get to a bookstore again and look at them, and hopefully drop some money on the counter. Oh, and Merry Christmas to you!
Thank you for appreciating the work of Weta Workshop and Peter Jackson! There work is on a level that most films, series or games just won't reach. so thanks for that!
One that really surprised me was The Art of Spyro Reignited Trilogy, they did a wonderful job of breathing new life into one of my childhood games! The colors are gorgeous and the designs make me feel like a kid again!
Adam! I hope you know this , but the actual artbook of the game is sold only with the collector's edition. If you can get one (I've seen tons of people selling it separately on wallapop or sites like that) get one, 'cause it's amazing.
Good evening and Happy New Year :-) Wow you have a real good job in this channel. I'm starting to love this kind of books. I'm looking for motivation on these books and I am searching artbooks where I can find inspiration in scenaries, forests etc for my pics. like in the Hobbit trilogy, but I have one of the Hobbit books and I don't know whether you can recommend me another book similar to that. I'm searching to put some of these mystical lights and colors on my forests and landscape pics. Thank you very much!
Thank you for sharing your top 5 book review videos. The Dark souls games are difficult to play but are very beautiful to look at. By the way its nice to hear something positive about Cyberpunk, I heard so many negative things . I think it's easy as a consumer to take for granted the hard work creators have to work on day in and out. I look forward to seeing more book reviews in 2021.
I don't think any reviewer worth their salt tried to diminish the huge amount of work that went into making Cyberpunk 2077 Imo the game being received poorly is a great thing because, as we now know, it was the lead of CDPR's decision to release the game in that state while also lying about the performance on old gen consoles The devs now have had the opportunity to confront the leads of the studio and can now work towards some changes If the game was received well, I don't think anything would have changed at all and highly likely it would have all been repeated with their next game Also crunch culture needs to be completely eradicated from this industry (and many others)
My issue with Cyberpunk 2077 isn't the quality of the game, it's the fact that CDPR crunched its employees into the ground then LIED about the quality of the game they were putting out, instead of taking the appropriate amount of time necessary to create the game so their employees weren't collapsing from exhaustion. Oh and they also lied about the fact that they were crunching their employees into the ground.
I think this is only a problem because you reviewed these books so long ago but calling Cyberpunk "buggy" is an understatement. This isn't weird rag doll effects, the game is literally unplayable for lots of people especially anyone who owns the game on a previous generation console. The list of game breaking bugs is too long to list and I'm sure I don't know of all of them but the main point is that they not only stop it from being a playable experience but don't allow them to appreciate any aspect of the art. This problem is compounded by it being a product of deceptive practice by the company itself, they hid the poor performance from reviewers because there were 8 million preorders to make money from and they knew an accurate portrayal of the experience would stop being from purchasing. No "clickbaity" review I have seen trashes the art director, the concept artist, or any of the hard working people who tried to make a good game(it could be out there I don't read more than a handful of reviews) but they pretty fairly put a game on blast that deceptively released a broken game that was put out purely with greed in mind. I respect the craft and the art but any frustration with game reviewers in this situation should instead be placed on the people who allowed something this god awful to happen; the reputation of CD Projekt was as high as any company could have been and its been absolutely savaged not by reviews but by the product they released.
I will add this video to my "Favorites" gallery, just for the segment where it cuts to Adam ranting like a madman with a caption over top. Holy hell, love ya mate, but that's just too funny.
lol, and trust me, it was a REAL rant. I edited it out because it was long as hell and I got pretty heated in it. I didn't wanna end 2020 with a live rage fest (although after the 2020 we've had, that might be perfectly appropriate lol.
I love your art book reviews! All of them look so beautiful !!! It's sweet that you included cuphead bc it's a game that has so much heart..... calculating which one I will buy with my christmas money 🔍📝
Here's a suggestion. If you're looking more for tons of hand-drawn traditional linework and watercolour background paintings, then I recommend Cuphead. If you're looking for a huge body of design and lore, grab Cyberpunk first. Either way you'll be totally satisfied.
Hey adam, just wanted to let you know that there is a ''art of magic the gathering'' book that you can buy... well there's a whole lot of them, but they're worth buying in my opinion, definetely try checking them out. They're awesome :D I'd recommend the war of the sparks one, it's the best one in my opinion.
@@AdamDuffArt yes there are actually, I just thought the "war of the sparks" one was pretty amazing. Such amazing artworks. Probably why I like mtg so much. Fun game AND astounding artwork in every card!
Hey Adam, great content, always in love with your cinematography approach to your reviews. I cannot stress enough how much I agree with you on Cyberpunk 2077. The game itself, in terms of design and aesthetic, is one of the most outstanding projects I’ve witnessed. It’s a shame that a community to which artists provide content, can sometimes rip it to pieces and underscore any artistic efforts. You are one, of the very few individuals, who pointed out how people are cutting down branch they are hanging on. Happy holidays 🎅🏼
Hey mann, lovely work... Btw can I please use your footage in few of my guitar covers? (tlou2 in specific) Which would be posted on my other channel actually...
Mary Christmas to you and your family, from an Artistic perspective I highly recommend the two Ori games especially the second title "ori and the will of the wisps"
Benczik, I have looked far and wide for ANY kind of artbooks for either of the Ori games. I have played both games and have watched my son play endlessly - we've re-watched all the cinematics as well over and over again. The most beautiful game of its kind and rest assured. I WANT an artbook on Ori but haven't found a thing.
@@AdamDuffArt For me the game is also something very special. The mood alone made me feel like a child again. Based in Germany, I looked for the artbook on Amazon after playing the second game with my wife. and I found one ;). As a devoted fan, I also looked at Amazon.ca and there I found "The Art of Ori and the Will of the Wisps Hardcover" very quickly.... 😅
I think with the era of gaming and entertainment that we are in, we are blessed with so much creativity and beauty in different aspects of games, tv, and books that we tend to forget how much work and effort, and manpower it takes to create them. The bars are high and we glamourize fast and easy pleasure, that we are quick to judge and criticize a product without consideration of its circumstances. Cyberpunk is a very ambitious game and they were a lot of expectations, with some left unfulfilled and understandably so. Conservational criticism is essential for growth, n hopefully the developers can work on the bugs, but it hurts when people go too far and bash the game as a whole along with the developers with little to no idea how they've managed to present this game in such complicated times. I think it helps to treat each other with some decent level of respect. That's all I wish
Beautifully said Syrus - I completely agree with what you're saying about "conservational criticism". It's essential and expected. Some reviewers did an awesome job of that and still managed to cover all of the points that everyone else did. Too many of them just ripped into CDPR for very obvious reasons; getting on the hype-train for views. That breaks my heart, Cyberpunk is a game in an entirely different league of talent and effort - it has earned its place in history.
Thank you. This whole video was joy, but especially thank you for showing support towards the art and the fundamental core of Cyberpunk 2077. I'm not an expert on games, or anything really, but I do like to think that I know when there is a story being told, and when it is a good one. The story and aesthetic of Cyberpunk has stolen my heart. I've been lucky that even with my console version, it hasn't been unplayable, and so I've been able to enjoy a wonderful discourse about people, community, capitalism, ambition, friendship, humanity, and so much more. Cyberpunk 2077, even with its faults, is game that clearly had the heart of its creators poured into it, is frighteningly relatable, and which talks about a lot of important issues. But this is turning into a rant, so I'll stop now. Thank you for being someone who has taken the time to really look at the game, and for sharing their opinion about it (especially since I'm sure its a controversial one). Thank you for your compassion and kindness towards creators. Thank you.
Great video as always, Adam! I love collecting artbooks and use them as an inspiration/reference. Which videogame artbook (or a few) would you say is a must to have in a collection? (I have a small collection: Mass Effect, Witcher 3, TLOU and TLOU2) Happy new year!
seeing the cyberpunk trailer in 2018 convinced me that that was the kind of project i wanted to be a part of. I 'm so in love with the art style of that game, and i totally agree with you that it's a master visually and design-wise. Still when it came out i literally got depressed by seeing how INCOMPLETE the game was... it's not the bugs it's the missing features and the marketing lies. I can't imagine how depressing it could be for an artist who put his whole heart in a project like that, seeing his baby releasing in such a bad state. Still the artbook looks AMASIN i have to get that. Thanx Adam
hi Adam - just wanted to thank You for videos. Everytime I watch them I go back to drawing (learning). I can relate to so many things that You speak in them even when I disagree. Sometimes ufortunately i take break for few months finding some excuses not to draw. You got some viewers that are from Your generation ;) - it is never too late to learn... (at least that is what I am trying to tell myself :). When it comes to Cyberpunk I am going to wait half a year and have lot of fun on patched game. Just regret that CD Projekt loose trust of gamers because they forced early release. And this forced crunch time on developers...
Wow those are some cool books. Love dark souls games. Like the design of some of creatures from dark souls they so interesting. There so much that goes into anything artistic, films games and books. Seeing these art of books gives a great glimpse at what goes into them.
Thank you so much for defending Cyberpunk, CD Project got so much hate for the good work they provided, some people just care about critiques against them.
The lotr making-ofs are still one of the greatest things ever. I watched those atleast 3-times more than the actual movies. I think a lot of creators in all kinds of media sometimes forget the base of they work is to convey a certain feeling to their audience. Beautiful art, technical abilities and storytelling is what carries a certain emotional state they are important but they are tools to convey the feeling the audience is meant to experience. As long as it is any kind or artistic medium made for an audience (and maybe even for a passion project hidden behind a closet) there's a try to express an emotion. Artistry is how well the author can use their artistic tools to convey and "manipulate" (with consent of course) the feelings if the audience so they can experience that specific emotional state. What makes an audience buy book, piece of music, game or watch a movie is that the want to feel a certain way and the piece of media promise to evoke a that emotional need. They pick up a criminal and stories to feed their curiosity and fell the rush of solving a problem, horror and adventure stories to feel scared or in danger but in a safe way (haha) ...to have a little more excitement in their lives, sad stories to finally have a good cry, games about taking creatures and things of things and creating systems, orders to feel like being nurturing but also to feel in power and control for a change, romantic stories or songs for romantic feelings...
I'm also glad classical animation did not died, always love to rewatch koko the clown and sing along with him St James Infirmary🤡🖤, definitely gonna buy cuphead's book
I own all of these books except the lord of the rings and hobbit ones, have to get them asap! :) Also cdproject red wasn't a no name developer anymore ;)
really felt that part where you talked about cyberpunk .. it makes me sad that all thoose great artist , programmer , sound designer or whatever are getting burned from cd projekt like firewood bc some stupid people in the management crunch them so hard and wanted to launch that game as fast as possible
I definitely think people aren't giving cyberpunk a fair chance but at the same time I do fault CDPR for not delaying the game and releasing the game full well knowing it was in an even worse state on last gen consoles. Everyone is tired of companies releasing unfinished games and while this game is mostly finished, the polish (hehe) isn't there and it's super easy to lump it in with other games that are a buggy mess at launch. Games do launch with bugs yes it's inevitable but it feels like a fiasco and a grab to meet a deadline at this point. Everyone treats CDPR like some small humble mom and pop company making games and could never do no wrong but the fact of the matter is they're a company that wants to sell you a product. And all it takes to ruin that is a few changes in management and the next thing you know they're the next Bioware or EA.
I loved the video except the cyberpunk part. I really hope that that is not the future of gaming especially when it goes to the business model that is a hype train building up an army of uncritical fanboys that get an unplayable game for the most part( I tried playing it on a strong gaming laptop but coudn not). Mind that I am a concept artist working in games also so I feel for the artists there especially since CD Project is well known in my country as a company overworking and really underpaying the artists. What they do now is they give concept artists a loose NDA so they can get actual money from freelance between crunch lol.
Adam, thank you for supporting the art of Cyberpunk. People cut their eyes and hearts off when they get on the hate-hype-train
That book is amazing! So detailed and the art inside it is fabulous.
You're very welcome - and the more I play it the more I stand behind my statement. This game never ceases to blow my socks off.

Btw did anyone else try to slow down the speed of Adam's rant and get a slightly slower and angry sounding mouse haha 😂
lol oh no you didn't! I didn't think about that. Everyone wants to see me lose my shit - and trust me, I did!
My Christmas gift is this video
Just found this guy's channel and already taking everything he says to heart. Also, The god of war art is some of my fav of all time
Absolutely love Horizon Zero Dawn the game and read this book from cover to cover. Aloy is one of my favorite heroines ever!
Thanks, sir. I ordered Ghost of Tsushima and the Horizon art books (had to as I live near Amsterdam 😉) thanks to your reviews!
Thanks, Adam. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for sharing all these inspiring book reviews this year! Here's to many more! Happy holidays Adam!
Your art work is amazing
Thank you for creating all of your videos! You've inspired me to start building my own collection. Happy New Year 💛
You inspire me your also my favorite artist!!!
One that really surprised me was The Art of Spyro Reignited Trilogy, they did a wonderful job of breathing new life into one of my childhood games! The colors are gorgeous and the designs make me feel like a kid again!
I feel like I need to see the uncensored version of that rant lol. Great choice in books from over the year.
Adam! I hope you know this , but the actual artbook of the game is sold only with the collector's edition. If you can get one (I've seen tons of people selling it separately on wallapop or sites like that) get one, 'cause it's amazing.
I was JUST looking into that! I already own the PC version but I might get a second collectors edition for PS5 when I manage to get one
@@AdamDuffArt Do it! It's an amazing edition :D Have a nice week, man!
I just got The world of Cyberpunk 2077 for Christmas! It's an amazing book, with so many good illustrations!
I don't think any reviewer worth their salt tried to diminish the huge amount of work that went into making Cyberpunk 2077
Imo the game being received poorly is a great thing because, as we now know, it was the lead of CDPR's decision to release the game in that state while also lying about the performance on old gen consoles
The devs now have had the opportunity to confront the leads of the studio and can now work towards some changes
If the game was received well, I don't think anything would have changed at all and highly likely it would have all been repeated with their next game
Also crunch culture needs to be completely eradicated from this industry (and many others)
Hi Adam, wishing you Happy and most importantly Healthy holidays!
I loved the books you reviewed. They are so inspiring
You too Marinka! A very happy holiday to you too :)
I absolutely love the cyberpunk art :-)
Excellent choices! But, show more the books you are talking about, please!
Fantastic 😊 My favorite book is Saturno Buttò by The Guide Artists. Amazing quality.
the video Quality is so good!
10000% accurate love this video!
They're awesome :D
I'd recommend the war of the sparks one, it's the best one in my opinion.
Amazing suggestion! And aren't there several of them? I remember seeing a small collection of them at the bookstore
@@AdamDuffArt yes there are actually, I just thought the "war of the sparks" one was pretty amazing.
Such amazing artworks. Probably why I like mtg so much. Fun game AND astounding artwork in every card!
Since you're a big fan of Miyazaki's work, I think you should check out Kentaru Miura's Berserk manga cuz Hidetaka is heavily inspired by him.
HAHAHHA loved the ending but probably felt so good :)
(tlou2 in specific)
Which would be posted on my other channel actually...
Some day the director's cut of this video will release and we'll hear the whole cyberpunk monologue
lol. I warn you, I got pretty pissed during the rant. I didn't wanna give off the impression that I had anger management issues so I edited it.
I wanna see it too, cause it probably expressed how I feel about poeple taking art for granted and how much of a monolithic achievement CP77 is.
I agree with you about the cuberpunk stuff, consumers consume they have no idea what it takes to create.
now i need those artbooks ♥
Horizon Dawn.... one of the greatest games ever?.... not even close.
That breaks my heart, Cyberpunk is a game in an entirely different league of talent and effort - it has earned its place in history.
the art of Cyberpunk is amazing!! no matter the rest, the book it's perfect and i not regret buy it!
(I have a small collection: Mass Effect, Witcher 3, TLOU and TLOU2)
Happy new year!
seeing the cyberpunk trailer in 2018 convinced me that that was the kind of project i wanted to be a part of.
I know it's out of topic, but do you move your camera so smoothly?! This is so satisfying hahaha

@@emmettowl Thank you!
Wow those are some cool books. Love dark souls games. Like the design of some of creatures from dark souls they so interesting. There so much that goes into anything artistic, films games and books. Seeing these art of books gives a great glimpse at what goes into them.
Is there any recommended book to understand the procreate application? very useful video. thanks
any chance you'll do a review of the wolfwalkers artbook?
The frozen wilds dlc for Horizon was really good. New enemy types and 3 new weapons. Can’t wait for the sequel 😆
Thank you so much for defending Cyberpunk, CD Project got so much hate for the good work they provided, some people just care about critiques against them.
I'd love more content about cyberpunk 2077. I love every aspect of it
Been playing it over the holidays and oh boy! I can’t get over how amazing it is
Merry Christmas, hopefully you have a nice time!
Art of cuphead is honestly so beautiful and makes me happy
You won't regret it, it's gorgeous and full of inspiring artwork.
Please please please pit the rant out separately!!!!! I bet it's funny as hell.
Or are you afraid you could get into trouble/"canceled" in the future?
This man can 23 minutes about 5 book while WatchMojo has 10 things in 15 minutes and still feels empty
I own all of these books except the lord of the rings and hobbit ones, have to get them asap! :) Also cdproject red wasn't a no name developer anymore ;)
one of my friend, i do think, its an amazing artist. but he is handled down by no self esteem. How can I help Him?
Hey Adam, if you could upload the rant as unlisted and share it somehow, I’d really like to hear your thoughts about it.
Can we get your entire rant? I'd love to hear that.
yes i wanna hear that too
It's about 20 minutes long and full of real moody pissyness lol. Maybe one day.
What do you do when you know whats wrong but you dont know how to fix it so you just keep doing it wrong?? (In art)
Does cyberpunk book have bugs? Asking for a friend.
Can you pls do another Zelda painting breath of wild!
really felt that part where you talked about cyberpunk .. it makes me sad that all thoose great artist , programmer , sound designer or whatever are getting burned from cd projekt like firewood bc some stupid people in the management crunch them so hard and wanted to launch that game as fast as possible
Merry xmas
I loved the video except the cyberpunk part. I really hope that that is not the future of gaming especially when it goes to the business model that is a hype train building up an army of uncritical fanboys that get an unplayable game for the most part( I tried playing it on a strong gaming laptop but coudn not). Mind that I am a concept artist working in games also so I feel for the artists there especially since CD Project is well known in my country as a company overworking and really underpaying the artists. What they do now is they give concept artists a loose NDA so they can get actual money from freelance between crunch lol.
