Yeah. I felt terrible. I honestly debated not including that in the video, but I wanted to be real... and warn people to be careful. Using a unibit to drill most of the holes makes it much safer... then finishing with a regular bit.
Jason Explains Things I’ve been there quite a few times myself, just never on film. It’s part of modifying any vehicle. It happens to everyone eventually.
@@JasonExplainsThings As you were drilling I was thinking to myself "I wonder what's between the roof shell and the headliner" ... I'm glad you kept the mistake in the video, it's always best to learn from others mistakes!
It’s 1 am and I’ve been at it since 9 this morning. Ran into some drill bit problems (took up around 5 hours and many drill bits) but thanks to your video it went super quick after we found the step bit! Instructions were super helpful!!! Thanks much. Earned a sub.
Thanks for the video. After watching the install will probably dish out the cash and take it to a body shop if I go with this rack. Have them drop the headliner, spray the drip rail, seal, corrosion protection. Thats going to up the cost for sure...... Like a roof rack for lightweight stuff such as traction board, shovel, and awning. Not doing a bed rack or RTT.
About to do a custom rack install on a buddy's 1500. He provided an old rack and I fabbed some aluminum rails to rivnut into the drip rail and then bolt the rack to so it can be removed easily if he wants. Will post a couple photos on my Instagram account. Thanks for the vid. Was already planning on using a step bit, but was nice to know the sheet metal might be thicker in some spots than others. I think some Chevys use harder steel and I foresee drilling and waterproofing to be the biggest challenges.
I'd ask Prinsu for recommended installers. It wasn't too hard once we got our procedure down to drill the holes... but I get it. Drilling holes in your truck is scary.
Looks awesome yall! I recently bought a 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 and i cannot find alot of overlander builds with my truck. I assume if this rack fits on the colorado then it will fit on the GMC aswell. Do yall happen to know if this is true? I dont want to spend $700 + if it does not.
I agree it is a little loose, but after a few thousand miles installed, and no wind noise and no evidence of it getting looser, I don't think I'll address it. I had been planning on running a bead of silicone under it to keep it in place.
Depends on how well you seal it! 😉 But seriously, I don't. Mainly because of the liability waivers on most automatic car washes regarding aftermarket parts. Also, all the stuff on the rack that I have.
It's really is a great rack, and I'm one of those weirdos that already liked to hand wash my truck anyway. If you don't feel up to it, there may be a local shop near you that could install? I was very nervous myself, but ended up happy I did it. GLHF!
I was thinking that the headliner was in danger. Live and learn. Thanks for the video. Nice rack.

My step bit wouldn’t get through at 3/8 mark and I bought the best one Lowe’s had. What a pain
Lamar DeBo Im pretty sure it has to be a carbide bit. Only one that really worked for me!
KermitTheUhFrog got it done. Has to be the thickest roof ever created!
Lamar DeBo 100. Those holes at the front are super tough. But, that carbide bit ate through everything! Did you get it done?!

No harm in going that route. I still haven't lived down my incident yet... nor should I! :-)
Thanks for that, Jason! Looking at racks and drilling the roof was intimidating but after seeing the video I feel confident.
Thanks Justin! Glad we could help.
Just be careful and take your time. The unibit was a good idea and then just finishing the hole with a drill bit.

Step bit is definitely the way to go.
SMASH! ... and Happy Anniversary!
Thanks Zach!
Love that rack, but they’re expensive...especially just to mount some Max tracks and a couple cans of gas. But Prinsu is pretty tough. Nice job!
Totally.
Looks good. Thanks for sharing and Happy 2yr anniversary!!!
Thanks!
Good morning, scared to install this rack myself, any idea who might be able to do install in Oregon? Nice job guys your rig looks awesome!
I'd ask Prinsu for recommended installers. It wasn't too hard once we got our procedure down to drill the holes... but I get it. Drilling holes in your truck is scary.
SMASHED IT!! Another awesome vid and the Wilson reference killed me 🤣🤣🤣
Looks awesome yall!

I’d check with Prinsu, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t fit. Watch that headliner! 😅
Yeah I emailed Prinsu about this. Still waiting on a response... Haha yeah I have heard about the headliner / hope problem
Any problems with leaks using that silicone? How about car washes as well? About to install mine.
From what Chris has told me he had to reapply silicone to one mounting point, but other than that no issues.
Great videos! Keep it up with this series!
Will do! Already have one episode shot I need to edit, and we'll keep it going from there.
Nice install guys
Thanks!
Did you get the roof rack with the 40inch light bar option? Or the one with the standard option? & what is the difference if you know?
No light bar. Chris already has off road lights and didn't want more. Difference is there's a cutout for the light bar if you choose that option.
the roof molding for me is a little loose in the front of the rack. how did you secure yours? thanks for the video!
I agree it is a little loose, but after a few thousand miles installed, and no wind noise and no evidence of it getting looser, I don't think I'll address it. I had been planning on running a bead of silicone under it to keep it in place.
Krystof same man! Had mine for a week now no issues.
More Colorado videos!!!!!!
Just emailed them, thank you much.
Oh FYI... if you have a Toyota those have factory mounting points so you don’t have to drill any holes.
Yeah, when I install mine I’ll use a drill bit stopper.
Nice video, keep the videos coming 👍
Plz upload more about your Dodge Ram d150
I’m due for a Dodge video for sure. It runs too well! There are a few upcoming plans I have for that.
Just uploaded a new Dodge video a week ago. :-)
I have a 2021 GMC Canyon Denali. Will this fit?
I’m pretty sure it would but check with Prinsu.
Sure will. Roofline is the same.
Ngl I laughed when he was unhinged with the 5 inch
is it possible to put rooftop tent on it?
Yep. The extra mounting plates may need to be removed.
Where do I order one?
Did you vacuum the shavings out that fell on the headliner?
Yes indeed.
@@JasonExplainsThings how much work is involved in pulling down the headliner?
We used an attachment and vacuumed through the holes.
Would this set up work on a Silverado 2011 1500?
Looks like they don't make a version for the Silverado... just the Colorado 2015 and up.
How did you fix that hole in the headliner. I just did the exact same thing in the exact same spot
He put an offroad patch to hide it. You see them at the end of the video. :-)
Jason Explains Things . Ha. Thanks!
Can you go through a car wash with that rack?
Depends on how well you seal it! 😉 But seriously, I don't. Mainly because of the liability waivers on most automatic car washes regarding aftermarket parts. Also, all the stuff on the rack that I have.
@@PNW_Bison thank you.i have mine in my shed not sure I want to instal it after all.

No way I’ll drill on my truck like that.
🐔 ...just kidding. I don't blame you. Toyota's have factory mounting points which makes this way easier.
