We introduce ourselves to episode 5 of the podcast, along with a recap of the Pirates’ minor league affiliate, the Altoona Curve, as Jake describes the game due to being in attendance.
2:54- Pirates Expectations
The Pirates are approaching the allstar break and are 3 games under .500 as of this recording. We discuss what and where we expect them to be by said allstar break and touch on some improvements that need to be made.
12:55- What to Do with the Catcher Position
Due to the injuries and struggles of Henry Davis and Yasmani Grandal, Joey Bart has emerged himself as a good hitter (as of now), and Jason Delay as a quality backup. However, Delay is now back in the minors. With Grandal continuing to struggle, what moves do the Pirates need to make at catcher that benefits the team most?
24:46- Should Tellez be our Everyday Starter?
Despite a horrendous April and May, Rowdy Tellez has become on of the better, if not one of the best hitters in this Pirates lineup. We discuss if this success is sustainable and what we truly believe the Pirates will and should do at the first base spot.
32:08- 6 Man Rotation
The Pirates have turned to a 6 man rotation to preserve the workload of Paul Skenes and Jared Jones. Should the Pirates keep the 6 man rotation, and what will said rotation look like when Quinn Priester and Marco Gonzales return from injury?
48:16- Is Derek Shelton’s Job Safe?
The Pirates are in a much better spot now than they were at the beggining of the decade. However, with the lack of offense and questionable decision making and lineups, it makes us wonder if manager Derek Shelton has a secured job. We discuss what we feel the Pirates will do and should do in this situation.
58:54- MLB Draft
The Pirates have not had a first round selection this low since the 2019 MLB Draft, but this class is projected to be so strong that the Pirates have a chance to land a star at #9. We discuss what route the Pirates should go in the draft and some possibilities that could last at the 9th pick.
1:08:14- The QB Draft Game
Peyton has a fun QB draft game for us to play. Each member will take turns drafting quarterbacks until we each have 5 picks. The goal is to draft guys who we would want to start a franchise with. Who do you think drafted the best quarterbacks? Let us know in the comments below!
