Best explanation of chord-chord/scale harmony I've ever heard. Of all the possible choices, why did you choose the Mixo b9, b13 over others? And why did you seek a minor chord from the Mixo b9,b13 scale?
sin palabras , son super tus libros ,espectacular ya le escribi a un familiar para ver si los puede comprar para mi, vivo en venezuela y es un problema las transaciones internacionales si uno no tiene credicar
It is probably much easier to understand this if you see a diminished chord in the right hand. In general, this is exactly what Barry Harris was talking about
Good day to all i would like to ask if there are any differences between these 2 books of (Upper Structures for Piano Voicings & Improvisation, COMPLETE PIANO COURSE ) and the 9 books of (Upper Structures Complete Bundle 1000+ Jazz Standards Progressions, 9 Volumes with Upper Structure Triads, Quartals & Reharmonizations) ? thanks alot Appreciate :)
Hi and thx for your work ... i bought the 2 volumes of Upper Structure, all is Ok with vol1 but the links in Vol2 upper structure quartais don't works ...
Could be. This is just a concept to explore sounds and voicings. Once you have a good set of upper structures under your playing that you like, you should stop thinking about it and just play. But when you want to add more stock voicings to your playing you can go back to the concept and find more upper structures to learn.
Sir this is awesome... But there are no midi diagrams on d chart its just sheet music... But I haven't mastered reading sheet music.. And I need these info... I need ur Help... Cos am interested...
How do you pair chord and chord scales ? Why Lydian is a better choice when a major chord is the fourth degree ? Do you have any course about this theory ? Thanks. Fred
It’s pretty simple for basic chords. When you look at the major scale from the point of view of the 4 you get a Lydian scale. The 2 is Dorian, etc. For other functions the concept is a bit more elaborate and one must considered the type of chord and the scale of the target. We might make a video series on that, it’s a good idea!
@@mDecksMusic Thank you for your answer, your channel is fantastic, you are doing an incredible work. I will buy your mapping tonal harmony app, I'm a kind of old beginner and I need to understand music better, jazz in particular. I hope it will help me to understand what I'm doing at the piano. Like a friend of mine says : "without a vision, no salvation" which is probably making more sense in French : "Sans vision, point de salut".
I'll have to watch this a few more times cause I'm in over my head. but could you help me understand why the mixolydian b9 b13 was the chosen scale for the C7? My thinking is the regular c mixilydian already contains all the notes of the C7 chord, so why not use that scale? Again, I'm in over my head, so I know I missed something.
@@mDecksMusic This is not really the best explanation. Way too much jargon: I think you've made up an unnecessary term "mixolydian b9 b13 scale"; the so called "V7/ii" is known as a secondary dominate; the chord progress is a common (I-vi-ii-V-I...) progression. You'd get more mileage out of knowing that, depending on the melody note, you can play a diminished (whole-half) scale a half step up from the chord root of the dominate 7-chord in a chart, among other options. In this case your you'd play C#/Db-dim (Db Eb E Gb G A Bb) scale over the C7, which would produce the Cdom7b9 secondary dominant as an upper structure. (The Eb still works because you are in the key of Eb major) The same scale would work when you see Eb7, Gb7, and A7... but ok... I am reading Mark Levine's Jazz Theory book, as well, but I'm not aiming to be a great jazz theorist. I actually want to play jazz piano... Those are two different things.
Dear bro your teaching is excellent. But in tonal mapping harmony the circles and the chords inside are not clear. How will I copy it. I am not in a position to buy it. If you teach with big diagrams. I am capable of improvising for the rest of the scales. Plz. I appreciate your way of teaching. I am a retired maths master.studied music too.I have implemented easy methods to teach key board and guitar to more than 50 students at a time in the church.thanks dear friend.Earnest.
I thought I would be able to do this kind of work with Tessitura! Did I buy the wrong app?? I’m a cellist, not a pianist, so I was looking for arpeggios instead of chord names, but I have never used Tessitura effectively *(maybe I was never using it right???)*
You have the right app. You can use Tessitura for that. If you want to practice arpeggios Tessitura will give you infinite exercises to practice them. We will make a video on how to use Tessitura to practice upper structures for instruments other than piano I think is a great idea.
mDecks Music I’m primarily a drummer w some keyboard knowledge . I can ll-v-1 in any key pretty much as well as a few other things. But that’s about it plus my reading isn’t toogood. But I could follow along in the book which I just purchased without any other prior training. The videos DEFINITELY helped.. thanks SO much for what you did here ! ua-cam.com/video/FD2Ja_Uz14I/v-deo.html

It’s the 5th chord of harmonic minor

C7 in this case is acting as the V7 of the II chord in the key of Eb. The V7/II uses mixo b9 b13 not mixo. It as also possible to use mixo b13.
I went through it again tonight very s l o w l y. Now I understand it better. Thanks. Still, not quite ready for this level, but I get it.

Send me an email to mdecksmusic@ gmail and I will be happy to send you a pdf with the map in high definition
do your courses include the scale like this? and some related theory?...I do not have a mac computer
thank you..

mDecks Music thanks! I’ll look forward to it!
Wondering where I could start so that all of these concepts and charts will make sense to me? Where does someone start who is new to piano? Thanks
Scales and modes first. Harmony next. Then voicings

@@mDecksMusic I would always say solfeo, the mother of musical theory.
What rules do you have for the left hand ?
Depends on the ust. You always try to have the guide-tones in your voicing. And include the root if you are not playing with a bass player
@@mDecksMusic Thank you for this answer. I just bought the app (MTH pro for MacOs) and I have to say it is really fantastic.
Hi does the course go with video? I cannot read music.
Every lesson has a video and a challenge video, yes. But reading music helps a lot for this course.
anything for windows?
All interactive pdfs are compatible

This is where composers such as Ravel and Debussy must have developed their ideas from. But who influenced them I wonder.....
Makes it too complex. I'm not that advanced.
Background music is bothersome
Hi Richard, thanks for the feedback. I'll keep that in mind.
toooo complicated and I don't do modes.
