    The original Japanese translation regarding Y'shtola's aether vision actually states something more along the lines of "you will constantly be burning aether in order to do that, it will possibly tire you out" or something to that effect. the EN translation is a consequence of aether being somewhat equated with life force in ffxiv and the terminology not translating 1 to 1 very well. this is why it seems like a super big problem to us, but was never meant as anything more than an off hand remark that Y'shtola is gonna have a tougher life now.

      To add to this; By the time HW came out, Y'shtola was already a fan favorite scion in JP. They weren't going to kill off a main character passively, let alone a fan favorite main character. Furthermore, within that conversation Y'shtola has with Matoya, Matoya is directly commenting on how Y'shtola is ACTIVELY circumventing her loss of vision in a potentially dangerous way. So while it's not a mistranslation per say, it does come off FAR more dire and dramatic than it actually is.

      The main problem is that the EN version is a localisation instead of a translation so they change a lot of things.

    The Dungeon to V&C Dungeon comparison is less as a direct comparison, and more of the age old argument "They're giving us less content and less dungeons is proof." Yes, less dungeons, but that dev time is going elsewhere. Somewhere else, like V&C and its new kind of dungeon which almost assuredly takes way more dev time for JUST Variant, compared to a single extra dungeon. It's not just gone, that dev time completely forgotten. Criterion is part of the V&C dev time I expect, even if it's more akin to Savage or such. Even ARR to HW had a lower dungeon count. But even if it failed, it's because they put that effort into Diadem and such.
    Dragoon, it needs a rework. Because for what EW did to improve it and I enjoy, it changed very little from ShB. 2 minute meta I would even say benefited DRG. "DRG is too busy" is the excuse for the rework, but that's part of why I like DRG. And I feel 2 minute meta actually made Dragoon busier, so I'm actually for this 2 minute meta. It personally benefits me. It makes Dragoon a perfect job in my eyes, perfect in just about every way. But you can't really iterate on perfection when they're trying to keep a strict button count. We need to wipe the board and start over if we want to progress DRG in future expansions. We can't realistically just play the same job year after year without it getting stale, and is the true core of the job creation issue.
    I'm scared to lose a job I have enjoyed every iteration of. But I'm not going to doom post that it's going to be ruined before we see the media tour. If they ruin it, I will for sure be saying how upset I am. But I'm putting my faith in the DRG devs despite the "too busy" comment. I can go into detail of what exactly fires me up for DRG and how that statement is antithetical to my enjoyment, but I have faith in them. You should be trying to do the same, and not just say "identity" over and over. What is the identity, why is that the identity, and how is that identity fun? Especially as a disappointed person, the devs can't understand you if you don't even understand you.

    • @Jay-mx5ky
      @Jay-mx5ky 11 місяців тому +7

      Well said. I think Xeems has gone into pretty good detail on how to make jobs (mostly dark knight) more interesting. I also want DRK to change as well, and I think there's plenty possibilities they can go with. I have my own ideas about designs that could fit the two minute meta and designs that that wouldn't, but I'd say the main gripe is that the kit doesn't interact with itself much.
      With RPR and RDM, you use one resource to build another or you build the resources together in tandem, but for DRK there's no such thing. In Stormblood, you managed your MP to power your Blood Gauge abilities and you also had to manage mp drain from abilities like Abyssal and Unleash in aoe, but from Shadowbringers on, they feel like two separate entities with only one button to manage each (GCD and oGCD Shinten/Bhava) and Darkside management is non existent. So yeah, I want a DRK rework that promotes interconnectivity of the kit, whether it be another combo to manage Darkside, bringing back Dark Arts to juggle with Edge of Shadow, something.

    • @iPlayOnSpica
      @iPlayOnSpica 11 місяців тому +2

      I disagree with DRG being "perfect", and it's because I feel the job is extremely inflexible. Its gap closers are the least effective of the melees (not the damage but utility due to long cd's and slow animation), and it suffers the most out of cd misalignment that happens between fights, if the content you play has short downtime between fights. The DRG I see today suffers from "I'm built only for raids" syndrome, though imo nothing suffers from this worse than BRD. That doesn't mean DRG is unplayable in dungeons, deep dungeons, etc., but it's not as fun as other melee jobs like NIN.
      Another personal opinion, I don't think Life Surge should have heal. Or rather, DRG should have something that can be saved specifically for self-healing/mit/etc. at will, rather than as coincidence mid-rotation. NIN has Shadeshift and MNK has Riddle of Earth. SAM's Third Eye is finnicky, but at least you use it with the intention of its effect never going to waste (plus you get +10 gauge). I want to say more than half of my Life Surges go completely to waste, and even when it is useful, it won't save me from death like Bloodbath or Second Wind would whenever healers won't/can't heal.

    • @WeskAlber
      @WeskAlber 11 місяців тому

      @@iPlayOnSpica The only gapcloser with a slow animation is Stardiver, and that's a secondary effect more than a main effect. And basically any gapcloser situation beyond can probably pull out Elusive Jump, which is stupidly fast now. I've been making extremely good use of Elusive since forever. Higher skill level needed to make use of it, but not by that much.
      As far as the CD alignment in casual content, that sounds like you're getting bad groups. Most dungeons I have some really good CD alignments now with the 2min meta. Anytime I feel like I'm in a weird spot, its when the tank's been doing weird stuff or the group isn't pullin high numbers due to gear or skill of any number of people.

    • @iPlayOnSpica
      @iPlayOnSpica 11 місяців тому +2

      @@shiburu I can see why people are afraid of what the rework might do to DRG. And I do agree it's fine to have a strict rotation, but it needs to be a little flexible for different situations. For example, if Spineshatter Dive is one ogcd window ahead of Dragonfire Dive on cd and a situation forces me to delay Spineshatter, I can't double weave the dives, so not only is Dragonfire Dive delayed but also whatever other ogcds I have after Dragonfire. This domino effect could lead to something not accepting my personal buffs (Lance Charge, Dragon Sight, Battle Litany) that otherwise would have. If I would change something, I would at least convert Spineshatter into a fast animation, fast cd, low damage gap closer, and adjust potency elsewhere as needed. I'd also add an effect for Elusive Jump where if you have a target selected, you always jump directly away from that target (like SAM Yaten and RDM Displacement), but its current interation of backstep is still available in the absence of a selected target.

      The Summoner community had confidence in the rework of the Summoner, but look at what they've done.
      It's good to remain objective, but we have to admit that not everything the developers do aligns with the ideal vision we imagine.
      In Final Fantasy 14, not everything is of consistent quality; it's sometimes random, and at times, it's very good, but it can also be quite bad, and that's a fact.

      what they have to do is have a story version mode for the lastest dungeons and then expert roulette would actually have the same dungeons but somewhat reworked in a way so they add more mechs to fights and actually make it a tad harder... maybe delete some trash pulls and make it faster to get to bosses with added mechs... not much just 2 or 3 more with a little more hp

      @@IrisfantasiesThis is a terrible idea. Roulettes only exist to provide a player pool for new players going through the story. • @LuminateTheWorld
      @LuminateTheWorld 11 місяців тому +1

      For me, I hate expert roulette or rather dungeons in general.
      First time through is fine, but thats because it's a new map, new story being tied into it, but after that first run, I hate them. I hate them because they are boring and put me to sleep... literally.
      Every single dungeon I've done even in endwalker is pull two groups of mobs. Melt them then do boss. Pull two groups do boss. I say 2 groups because that's all the dungeon allows you to pull. Even a tank with dungeon gear won't come close to dying so long as either the tank is pushing buttons, or the healer is. The dps can literally just be spamming on button. And if your tank is a warrior, the healer can literally just push their 1 button aoe over and over and over again.
      Enemy ages don't do anything but some damage, so a blm can stand I'm everything if they want. Boss mechanics are way to forgiving. So yeah... I'm falling asleep regardless of what class I play.
      If they had a harder version of these dungeons with expert(savage) roulette option. I'd be okay with that, but this being thr only option pushes me away from doing expert. I'd rather spam cc matches instead.

    • @Dw7freak
      @Dw7freak 9 місяців тому +1

      Solm Al (Hard) is one of the best expert dungeons there is. On top of having a banger of a dungeon theme, it even has a mechanic that a lot of casuals don't know about, avoidable tank busters. The first boss, the crocodile, has that wind up and most tanks just stand there and take it when they could avoid it. Knowing about that really helped whenever I see that skeleton in latter content, like the boss at the end of The Drowned City of Skalla. I didn't realize until I saw someone just walk away from it that it's just a cleave.

    Endwalker to Shadowbringers is what Nier:Automata is to Nier:Replicant.
    Replicant has an AMAZING story that is self-contained in the world of game. It makes you feel for story of characters in it, their tragedies and their hopes. It makes you awe at compleicity of the story, woven from elements so intricate you can't help but be flabbergasted.
    Automata has a story that only superficially is about the events in game, stretching its hands towards the player and player's real life doubts, fears and struggles. It says "I know it is hard. I know it's difficult to keep going. But the fact that you can is beautiful and i need you to know that i acknowledge it".
    Endwalker's story feels so much more intimate, oddly mature, making you face your own struggles - while Shadowbringers gave you a world where you feel better by changing fate of someone else.

    • @LeonStarcrestVODs
      @LeonStarcrestVODs 11 місяців тому +1

      Spot on about Endwalker, it's why it's my favorite FF story now as well as my favorite story overall when it comes to all forms of media that I've consumed up to this point (Video games, movies, novels, etc.); It spoke to me in a very personal way and hit me in the feels harder than anything that came before.
      I have yet to play any Nier game, but now that you've compared those games in this way, I can tell I'm probably going to enjoy Automata a lot more than Replicant lol.
      Where Shadowbringers is concerned, people overhyped it to me when I was a sprout (I started in late 2020) so I found it boring until Lv. 76 or 77 MSQ. And of course Patch 5.3 had me like "DAYUMN! O_O"
      But I was still happier to finally be back home in 5.4 from what had almost felt like a filler episode (to me anyway) that had interrupted the flow of the main story (Stormblood's patch story (4.3 - 4.5 specifically)) which I thought was starting to get really good right before SHB hit.
      It was a good filler episode, yes, but still just a filler for me. So I really enjoyed focusing back on what I felt was the main story with 5.4, and 5.5.
      I was a little sad that we never did get the expansion that was supposed to revolve around that place that Post-Stormblood and a few SHB cutscenes were leading to/hinting at since it meant that we probably would've had the chance to see it in all of its glory and explore the whole place BEFORE it was completely destroyed, BUT I was still satisfied with the way that early Endwalker MSQ (Lv. 81-82 with a tiny bit of 83) handled it and wrapped it all up at least. :3
      Could it have been better? Hell yes. But I understand that they had to rush to wrap it all up quick after they decided to cancel the entire expansion that that particular MSQ segment was originally intended for.

      I find it hard to emotionally associate with XIV stories because they always end extremely well for all the characters who matter, and that's not the case irl. Tragedy in XIV is very superficial. Hearing the main characters talking about "despair" when they never experienced it themselves (at least it wasn't shown to us) just doesn't work for me at all. EW was definitely emotional, but not mature in how it deals with it's themes.

    • @JannetFenix
      @JannetFenix 11 місяців тому +1

      @@xviii5780 Oh, to me it was a little more symbollic. And fighting despair was not about fighting ugly deadly monsters - it was convincing yourself that even if it feels futile, you still can do it. Acknowledging the unbearable, overwhelming weight of it, preventing you from making a move, running into excuses that you lack "ability" to change the situation, rather than "willpower".
      The final zone in endwalker made me bawl every living second i was in it, because i felt it portray what it feels. A warm but hopeless darkness, full ruins of things that have been and could have been, never fully allowed to rot. A place that embodies this heavy, weighty feeling preventing you from seeing light. Embodiment of resignation, lethargy and marasm that accompanied me for years - and the game, reflecting it all back to me, like: "I know."
      Do you know Limbus Company? A sweet little game made by one of my favourite game studios; while designed as visual novel with insignificant gacha elements, the story portrays human struggles so relevant, so relatable and so intimate that i genuinely broke down by chapter 4.
      Because i saw the game do what endwalker did: acknowledge the pain, rather than offer to escape from it. Challenge you to face it and cheer you for it.

    I always kind of hated the map design in this game. That's the biggest thing I think World of Warcraft always had over FFXIV. The first time I thought a zone even came close to the quality presented in even Vanilla WoW was in Shadowbringers. That expansion had some pretty good zone design. Mostly in Kholusia, Il Mheg, and Lakeland.

The release schedule, the progression system... I mean it was pretty intolerable at the time. Since then they've adjusted it, and it's all in the game. The problem with 2 minute meta are raid buffs. They design bosses around 2 minutes ffs. Most recent examples are P9S where you do your 2 minute burst before limit cut and P12S P1 where you get to limit cut just before your 2 minute burst. Imagine if they removed raid buffs and gave you personal cooldowns with like 15/30/60 timers and buffed your core rotation. It would also open more options on boss design as well since you have several personal “burst” windows now and don’t revolve around 2 minute group buffs.

The imp uses ice spikes on pull and on time with the CD of silence and the skeleton aoes not long after and that comes back with the CD of stun, simple but fun when you just make them do nothing.

In fact, I've been saying there should be different paths since StormBlood because every dungeon as a tank, healer or DPS is literally the SAME thing. There are two pulls between each boss, there are always 3 bosses(there's one or two with 4. OOoOoOoOOoOo!),and the only thing that changes are the mechanics and music depending on the expansion. The rewards become junk that's only good for glam or seals and seals are only good for FC boosts or gil. . . The minions are a nice new touch but I could go for more variants and less dungeons any day.

    The 2 minute argument xeno makes at 43:20 does not apply to all jobs. Drg for example, did not get buttons removed save for the life of the dragoon button, which is negligible, but because everything is 2 minute and 1 minute instead of 90 seconds, 2 minutes, and 3 minutes, all the planning of dragoon's burst phase/gauge got extremely simplified where we don't have to think about how and when to build up Life of the dragoon. That kind of difference was made purely just because of the new 2 minute meta, not because DRG had anything removed. Now, the difference between a great drg and an ok drg is whether or not you've been pressing you're buttons on cooldown, and even then, the competition at high level devolves down to just crit rng instead of planning and execution.

    • @Jay-mx5ky
      @Jay-mx5ky 11 місяців тому +2

      DRG and BLM got out well, but those are two jobs of quite a few. A lot of jobs got things shifted around to fit the meta. PLD and SMN needed to be reworked and NIN's dot had to go because full uptime dot damage didn't fit. MNK needed Blitz because it needed high potency hits that crit for a lot for 2mins. Ninja's trick attack debuff has been moved to mug on 2 mins, so the one minute burst doesn't matter on jobs that don't have a 1min personal buff or 60sec cooldowns. It feels like a lot changed so 2mins could be viable.

      @Jay-mx5ky 11 місяців тому

      @SetsunaFSeieiGN02 I get that for sure. My main issue is the strict job design where every class needs their strongest abilities available at 2mins or on a 1/2min cd. I personally think there should be less raidbuffs and more of an emphasis on single target buffs so that jobs can be on different burst timings (or do sustain damage) and they can work together with support style classes like dancer and astro to optimize damage while (most) raidbuff potency gets baked into everyone's kit. It gives people something to optimize for speed kills (both the buff classes and the buffed class can coordinate when to receive/burst), while also balancing out the damage output difference between unoptimized comps and restoring different job styles.

    ... is where upon finding out about Lucia (lvl58-59 msq), Alphinaud remarks in EN he doesn't doubt her loyalty to Aymeric but expressed concern about her loyalty to her sister. In JP with the latter half of the dialogue, he instead directly asks what she thinks of us because of what we did to her sister.
    Throughout the whole msq, characters refer to our planet as "star" in EN, but in JP, 惑星 (wakusei, planet) can be colloquially abbreviated to 星 (hoshi, star). The characters are really still talking about the planet. Unless Renaissance era English also didn't make the distinction between star and planet, I consider this more mistake than anything.

The story structure and narrative cadence were paved in the latter patches of ARR, while modern raid design was established in SB. Endwalker has a problem with content replayability and longevity, not quantity. The reason people want forays and long relic grinds is because it gives you long term goals. On top of that players need daily incentives to engage with content. Why isn't there a Variant roulette now? How about a deep dungeon roulette with a randomly 10 selected floors from the middle of each of them? What about like a FATE roulette where you get dropped into a random zone with a 4/8 man group and you have to do 10 FATES to get the bonus at the end?

    • @Vulby
      @Vulby 11 місяців тому +1

      They want variant to stay as an option for branching story-based exploration content for the normal, and then difficult 4 man content for Criterion. Roulette would not work.
      Deep dungeon requires the player to have armor and weapon levels to function well, queueing random levels would be ass. You can pretty much do this anyway with matching.
      Fate Roulette sounds genuinely boring. They're designed around drop in and do it if you want, forcing a 10 clear to finish defeats that purpose.
      They also quite literally added long term grinds in EW too. Bicolor gemstone grind for the mount/wings. Deep dungeon 4 clear mount. Variant path completions. Island sanctuary mounts. Treasure map mounts. 4 mil mgp mount. This is on top of the already massively long grinds still available to do in the game such as Mahjong Master, Big Fish, World-Class Troller... etc.

      See, your first sentence is the main problem. The biggest complainers - and a lot of the parrots - are not saying that. Few people I've talked to are. They are saying there's nothing to do. Long term goals, short term goals, the rewards? Those are what are really are lacking. I think the litmus test would be something like Dragonsong Reprise. Is this not like, one of if not the best thing they've ever made? Would it be less quality if it had no reward? No. But you'd probably still lose some people. The title/weapon/plate flex is enough, and it's pretty understood we all like there being rewards.
      "No activities to do" just means we'll get even more types of activity with even less rewards per activity. And longevity will likely take a hit too. Devs can't just go assuming you mean one thing when you say another if you're all saying the same incorrect line.

    I really really want you to make a video about the two minute meta. I disagree with you and I think 8 person raidbuffs are the crux of the issue, cause if you're not spending your highest potency abilities in a matter of 20 seconds once every two minutes, you're griefing. If your buff window is late, you're griefing. And most of the buffs in the game are just uninteractive "push one button to make damage increase" buffs. And the two minute meta has pushed dot jobs out of existence while limiting designs for jobs that can let you deal more damage by taking damage, deal more damage by protecting allies, having buffs that compound/decay over time (like old RDM embolden), etc.
    I don't think having 8 person raidbuffs are bad as long as they fit the job fantasy (bard, dancer), but I think the fact that theyre on all but three dps jobs and half of the healers severely limits how much "harder", or at the very least, different job design can be. And they could use that button to add something new to the job.

      its bad because to make all the buffs, OGCD cooldowns, combos etc line up with eachother most classes had to be simplified so even average players can do the 2 minute meta without knowing their class intricately. And since most damage comes from the 2 minute burst window esp with tincs popped on 6/0 minute that means that optimal play outside of the 2 minute means less. As it is right now as soon as you pick up a level 90 class you can look at the abilities and based off cooldown time alone know your 2 minute burst, 1 minutes, and fillers

    I'm not the best when it comes to expressing my thoughts and feelings, but... Dark Knight honestly does feel like a lesser clone of Warrior.
    Warrior self heals better than Dark Knight when Dark Knight used to be the better one because its whole gimmick used to be draining the enemies HP to restore its own back in HW and StB. Something it struggles to do now.
    For whatever reason, Warrior's Shake it Off seems like something Dark Knight should have as a party wide defensive, minus the heal overtime. That healing overtime effect is too much, lol! Instead, I'd rather see Warrior have a party wide attack buff ability rather than Shake it Off. Never understood why it was given such an ability when it should be the selfish Tank; the main thing I really liked about Warrior back in ARR and HW.
    Dark Knight spams just like Warrior, except it throws everything and the kitchen sink at the enemy(s) instead of just having one or two extremely powerful attacks. Think about how the WoL in the Shadowbringers cinematic opening basically two shoted that Sin Eater. While obviously, I wouldn't advocate for something that freaking powerful, Dark Knight in game should emulate that destructive power to a degree by having a build up gauge specifically meant for it to do a crap ton of damage with just 1 to 3 attacks, again, rather than spamming its attacks over and over again like a discount Fell Cleave Dark Knight. This way, it helps Dark Knight feel more powerful while also giving it a bit of its own identity compared to Warrior.
    That's as much I can think of at the moment, as I'm having a bit of brain fart moment, but these were some of the things I felt Dark Knight has a serious problen with compared to Warrior. While I still absolutely love both job class for what they are (especially Warrior because I'm simple oonga boonga man), I just wany my former second favorite Tank job class to feel more like its old HW/StB self while also feeling more in line to what the Shadowbringers trailer tried to make it look like.

    I personally don't like the way this guy is comparing the two expansions as if they got released around the same time. Heavensward is 6 years older than Endwalker and in the world of game development, 6 years is a lot of time to develop new techniques and more sophisticated ingame systems. Another thing that must be kept in mind is that the dev team had literally just got off the mammoth task of rebuilding FF XIV and I can imagine them being fairly 'fatigued' when they started working on Heavensward. Maybe i'm wrong but i can see valid reasons as to why Heavensward is ''not as good'' as Endwalker.

    Dungeons are fun to me because its easy and you can just do them, lol Im not an adrenaline junky like most Ultimate raiders, the one I cleared, DSR, was purely a from of closure against Throdan, finally killed the old bastard off! Being a Mentor on Materia is also a part of why l like dungeons, because the community is still growing its fun to help people and see how they are enjoying the story and learning the ins and outs of the game, jobs, rotations, crafting, dodging, PF & DF. Mentor roulette is a big help finding fun experiences in dungeons because there is generally a fun aspect to it.
    You can get a fist timer and teach them or test them, you can get a bunch of Lvl 90 in a lvl 90 dungeon and go ham for 12 minutes pushing for a fast clear and you can meet assholes and great people like every 15 minutes. Hell when I play at work its great fun to just do a trust dungeon for 40 minutes, thats right a TRUST DUNGEON, its gets you tomes and you can do it at your own pace. Granted most people dont get to play at work so my experience is a little different, but doing Dungeon type 4 man content for the sake of it and thinking its fun? Yah I dont know about that.
    Doing Dungeons for the sake of doing them as Baseline content is not that interesting outside of the first time, but doing them for the interactions and helping people, that my experience.

    I think that the extra "hard mode" dungeons are more well regarded than Variant/Criterion solely because they expand the main lore of the game and feel less like optional content. That being said, Sildahn is absolutely exempt from this because Nanamo is in fact a main character and it expands her lore...but it's definitely a valid criticism for the other two.
    Honestly though, I was so disappointed we didn't get stuff like Akademia or Anamnesis Hard because I loved those dungeons so much. They would have also fit in so well with the raid series in End Walker what with us spending so much time with Lahabread and Elidibussy.

    I expect that a lot of people are going to be upset about the next expansion.
    Even though we all know going into it that its supposed to be a step down from the grand story we just went through in Endwalker, i don't think it will take long before people start comparing the two and become upset that the new expansion isn't "one-upping" the previous one.
    Maybe i will be proven wrong, but thats how people usually are. They never like taking a step backwards, even if its for the best in the long run.
    Even though i enjoyed most of the story of Endwalker, i was actually really disappointed in the final ending.
    The game has spent an entire decade building up Zodiark as an ultimate threat only for him to kind of just be a side-piece boss that gets barely any importance just so they can let some new threat out of nowhere take its place. It felt like they threw all of the story work they had done up to this point out the window just so they could make room for Zenos; a character who has basically no depth of personality at all and only existed just to be "a strong opponent."

    I think the general sentiment behind the video is correct but flawed. It doesn't matter if HW had slightly less/worse content than EW since it was SB that set the standard. HW was an upward trajectory of content, whereas EW is on a downward trend. Psycologically, that is far worse. The bottom line is that EW should be held at a higher scrutiny since we are now 10 years into the game instead of 2, and we have also seen how the devs took the feedback from HW and made the best expansion in terms of content and battle systems (stormblood). Defending EW because HW was worse just gets us more EW. Critisising EW for its very real shortcomings gives us Stormblood 2.
