"The idea of freedom is inspiring. But what does it mean? If you are free in a political sense but have no food, what's that? The freedom to starve?" Angela Y. Davis
You cannot be totally free while as a human, you can however chose where the little freedom you have is applied, yet while under a modern society the institutions that regulate social behavior (not so much the economical structure) are so big you really have no choice as you can't live outside system if there is nothing outside of the system.
Freedom is very often an empty buzzword that, like many other buzzwords from all over the political spectrum, is used to justify the status quo or justify atrocities in the pursuit of them.

@Jeff it's sad when people keep blaming an economical system whit what? 200 years? For social problems as old as humanity. But it's only natural specially if you don't believe in hierchy then you have to create another justification for social inequality
Violence may help within the region affected by oppression, but will be used as a tool to discredit the would-be victims and thus prevent the opressed from receiving help. Therefore, it is important to only use violence when the world remains silent. Even so, it's hard to know how long you should really hold your breath for a world which may not care or know at all.
Violence is also not necessarily physical. The left's fault, I believe, is that there seems to be a lack of discussion around all the types of violence that can be exerted against a system.

The mainstream progressive left-wing position in the 1960s was that you supported civil rights, Johnson and Kennedy's efforts to "contain" communism, and the Vietnam War but were critical of the military's "conduct" of the war.
