@@InJOYLife , when this 1968 "Comeback Special" was televised, he had been performing for 14 years already, since 1954. Eighteen months after graduation from Humes High School in Memphis, Tennessee (1953), he was already becoming nationally known. He was 33 here and looking, singing in his prime. He did live performances from 1954 to 1958, plus 4 movies. From 1958 to 1960, he was in the Army, stationed in Germany. In 1960, he did one more live appearance on Frank Sinatra's "Welcome Back from the Army, Elvis" TV special. From 1960 to 1968, he made many more films, mostly romantic, musical comedies. Though I personally like all of them, he was disappointed with most of them. His desire was to be more of a dramatic actor, which he could have been were it not for his domineering, greedy manager Colonel Tom Parker (Colonel was a fake title). Then, came this 1968 Comeback Special you've just witnessed, which launched his live performances again, between 1968 and 1977, the year of his untimely death at the age of 42. He did take the time (probably to fulfill his contract with the film studio he was signed to) in 1969 to star in a really good movie (part drama, part humor, part musical) called "Change of Habit," with co-star Mary Tyler Moore (who had co-starred as "Laura Petrie" in the 1960's sitcom "The Dick Van Dyke Show"). Just a fingernail sketch of a little of his extraordinary background. He was the total package and the very definition of charisma and "swag" before swag was even a term! Great reaction!

Well at 65 I still amazing to watch Elvis preform. The best entertainment the pure beauty of his voice. I too am happy to see the younger generation. These days he is preaching under the handle of pastor Bob
I'm close to sixty years old and a musician most of my life and I have performed this song myself several times in front of a live audience and it always gets the ladies even though I'm not even one fraction of what Elvis was. So it's a great song straight out of the gate but yeah his charisma killed it. But also if you see enough of his stuff you realize he's a total goofball and really funny he clowns all the time but he had the goods to back it up. It's a delightful combination for sure and it was fun watching you react to it.

You should react to Elvis singing If I Can Dream. It's a passionate tribute to Martin Luther King Jr following his assassination. In The Ghetto is his most controversial song. Very emotional and meaningful. Suspicious Minds live in 1970 is as energetic as you will ever see an entertainer get. Polk Salad Annie from 1970 is also a great one. Elvis had so many legendary hits.

You are so adorably cute and for my money, though being too young to be an Elvis fan when he was alive, I can see why so many call him the GOAT. As he sang everything from blues to rock to country to Gospel to R&B, etc. And yeah, for more awesome Elvis songs, as he will prop up your numbers, 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' is great, "Trying to Get to You" from the 68' Comeback Special, the 'American Trilogy' from Aloha from Hawaii - the most watched show in television history still - and 'Fame and Fortune' from the Sinatra Timex Special is great as Elvis is in a tux and he is singing totally live, not with autotune, etc., and gives a person a total appreciation of just how well he could sing! You're funny, pretty and your reaction on point. Keep it up princess!
You want to hear SCREAMING from the crowd. Stuck on You in '60 Frank Sinatra Show. He just got out of the Army. The Biggest Star in '58 went into the Army at the peak of his career. Screaming ---How about Elvis doing Hound Dog on the Ed Sullivan Show Oct. 28, '--56.Hot-- of the press!!! He was shaking the world in the '50's. He gives some of his signature moves. Watch how the crowd react to these. Screaming--how about Don't Be Cruel on the Ed Sullivan Show. There's a long, long list of great hits from the Greatest Of All Time. Are u ready? There's over 600 songs that he performed. In the 50's, 60's and 70's. All of these are #1's-- sold multi-multi millions. I like your reactions!!!
i'm 76 and he was a hunk of burning love! great sexy singer, dresser, and looks, if you get a chance listen to "i i can drea" - a tribute to Martin Luther King and also "i want you, i need you, i love you" love these songs.
Love your reaction. Suggestions? Watch the entire Comeback Special that this performance came from. 1968. Of note "If I Can Dream" . its an iconic picture of him in a white suit in front of his name lit up in red lights. A powerful song about everyone getting along in this world. "Where all my brothers Can walk hand in hand Then tell me why Oh why cant My dream come true" It should knock your socks off.
Some quick facts, Elvis had close to 900 hits, made 31 movies and is along with Michael Jackson considered to be the greatest performers of all time. If you want to see the power of Elvis watch Stars who met Elvis or Elvis and the black community short 15min doc on UA-cam, you will be amazed at what movie stars and politicians and athletes said about the king of rock and roll. Muhammad Ali and James Brown and others said about him. If you want to see where cool came from get ready for an amazing journey.
Not to be that guy...I love Elvis, but 900 hits is an exaggeration. He recorded over 800 songs, and had 115 top 40 hits. By comparison (not that we are doing that here) Jackson had 36. I'm not promoting anything in anyway, but if anyone is interested in a chronological order of all of Elvis's top 40 hits, I have them here: ua-cam.com/play/PLCly186NbtDJN2PJdxMBGdmc073dR61zL.html
Sorry, Elvis completely outshines Michael Jackson, in my opinion. Jackson copied Elvis's dance moves, his voice isn't so good, his looks nowhere near, his charisma nooooooo. They were both troubled souls, and both self destructed, but thats all.... R.I.P Mr Presley you'll always be the King of all music, not just rock and roll. Never forgotten ❤
@@theman6204 You're right, but we agree Elvis is the GOAT, Greatest of all time. It took me a while to work that out 😇. I was the right age when I discovered Elvis, 14 and GI Blues, then other things took over, I've just discovered him again now I'm 73. 1968 to 73 were his best years in my opinion. Love your reaction. Suggestions? Watch the entire Comeback Special that this performance came from. 1968. Of note "If I Can Dream" . its an iconic picture of him in a white suit in front of his name lit up in red lights. A powerful song about everyone getting along in this world.
"Where all my brothers
Can walk hand in hand
Then tell me why
Oh why cant
My dream come true"
It should knock your socks off.
Thanks for the suggestion! Can’t wait to check it out!☺️👏🏽

I wonder if there is a room in your house that you set up as an Elvis shrine candels and everything'' Mystery Train ''is a movie I bet you would like
Check out Love Me Tender the live version 1970, and If I Can Dream, tribute to Martin Luther King..
@@jennywren7822 even though I agree with everything you said I still have to give credit to the greatest performers out there. Elvis is the king. ☺😎

You're right, but we agree Elvis is the GOAT, Greatest of all time. It took me a while to work that out 😇.
I was the right age when I discovered Elvis, 14 and GI Blues, then other things took over, I've just discovered him again now I'm 73.
1968 to 73 were his best years in my opinion. Thank god for utube.....
@@theman6204 True great talents deserve to be aknowledged they earnt it I can't really say about todays because I lost interest years ago but Elvis is still the Goat stay safe 😷✌
