I've enjoyed this shift in focus from reviews to talking about strange and obscure corners of gaming history. And it's always fun to watch people gush about their collections.
I'm totally with you there, I would be all too happy if tama decided to join the ranks of techmoan and the 8-Bit guy and do regular videos about unique hardware
As a kid playing GBA I pretty much only got licensed games. I was dumb and didn’t want to take a chance on things I didn’t know, so most of my library was stuff like Spongebob, Star Wars and Madagascar. As a result, while I’m jealous of the depth of your collection of actually good games, the licensed games you have are almost more nostalgic to me.
Same here, I didn't realize that videogames were their own thing and thought the only games that existed were licensed (I thought the pokemon anime came first, for example). It didn't help that my parents were very distrustful of videogames so I had to rely on my extended family to get me games.
Ovo na aside from Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, no. That one I had because a friend of mine at school had it and it looked interesting. But other than that I didn’t get any.
So weird seeing the American PS1 cases in the background. Here in Europe these were twice as thick, probably in order to fit the multi language manuals I assume.
I prefer our european dedicated cases, NTSC ones are just standard CD cases and i think they did the same for dreamcast games as well... just weird and kinda cheap because the ones we got over here look amazing
the part where you mentioned wanting something as a kid and buying it as an adult/ older child made me think of something. i have this little cubby shelf displaying figures and just stuff i liked and collected. i used to LOVE lps with a passion. there was this one custom someone was making and selling on ebay, and i yearned for it. i bought it on a child-induced whim with birthday money, and felt like life was over. there it was. my life. in my hands. i still have it up, and dont play with them anymore (of course), but yeah. just funny thing i thought about and wanted to share lol
oh hey, the exact thing you were talking about with more friends of mineral town happened to me too! i hadn't gotten a handle on buying things online at the time, so i was getting a lot of help from my mom, ordering this game i remembered very vaguely from my early childhood and was super excited to play again. i was distraught when it arrived in a cute little gameboy advance protective case- and couldn't save! i'm not quite sure what went down there- i like to think it was a genuine mistake- but we actually sent it back for a refund and i bought another one that turned out to be real and i still am super protective of to this day. it's just funny to hear now, years later, that mfomt doesn't use a save battery! i'd always assumed that was the problem with the first one i bought. i'm really glad the pokemon sapphire i picked up later turned out to be real, since i hadn't heard yet about how full of counterfeits the GBA market can be.
I actually had something kind of similar happen to me when I bought Harvest Moon DS Cute on DS. I’ve been a massive Harvest Moon fan since I was a small child and was super excited to play it, but for some reason my copy of the game doesn’t allow for relationship progression. Everything else in the game works and it saves just fine, but it is literally impossible for me to get any of the characters over white hearts even after playing for 8 in game years. I have no idea what kind of defect this copy has for such a specific problem to occur. (On a somewhat related note, Ive always wanted to play Mineral Town but was worried about getting some kind of whack copy since I heard they were so abundant. At least they’re remaking the game!)
I'm pretty sure the same thing happened with my copy of Wario Land 4! I was so excited to actually carry around my SP again, thing is it won't save! :(
i had the same action replay as a kid! i remember one pokemon fansite had a good collection of fun codes to use but they are now defunct :( it's wild to see how much your content has changed since i started watching your videos in middle school. you inspired me to play around with romhacks back then and it's cool seeing someone else gush over the gameboy systems and their weird games and accessories
I'm really glad you're still around Tama. Many old school small time UA-camrs are MIA, and your beautiful voice just takes me back to a better time of my life. Thank you for keeping this up and being you!
I ended up buying a Torchic edition Gameboy Advance SP, which is so beautiful but also expensive and rare. So when it finally came in the mail, I only unboxed it and placed it back in the original box. I’m just afraid of damaging it or having my oily hands ruin or fade the color. I did post it in my UA-cam page if anyone is interested in watching. I really wanted that one and the Rayquaza one as well. Awesome video!
Wow hearing your voice brings back so many memories. As like everyone else, I use to watch your videos all the time and I believe you were one of the first youtubers I subbed to. You’re amazing!
This just popped into my recommended and completely forgotten about this channel. Same with with primetimepokemon, dookieshed, and abrandontothepast but they've just now started to pop up again. Kinda feels nice to watch all of you guys again.
11:49 that's usually caused by a bad solder joint between the rom chip and the board. If you are handy with a soldering iron you could go through and reheat each point. I did the same a couple weeks ago with a copy of Snoopy's Magic Show for the GB and it worked!
i have been watching your videos for 5 years now and i just want to say that your videos have always had such a friendly quality to them. like your videos just feel so nice to watch. i feel so cozy on your channel lmao if that makes sense
Tama! There's been so many cool advancements in the GBA modding/customization community. You could get a new GBA online for cheap, get a shell that matches your original one, and upgrade the screen to an IPS one (better than any gameboy screen) all for $100 or so. Super worth it! Theres even mods that make them rechargeable and stuff like that!
Oh my God Dokapon I had in a pile of roms on Visual Boy Advanced and I adored it. I don't have that many games besides the Spyros, several Pokemon games, Fire Emblem Sacred Stones. But one of my favourite series ever was Golden Sun. I think it may the game series that changed my life the most because it got me involved in online culture and really shaped a lot of stuff early on in my life.
omg the super mario book was a favourite of mine too!! it was so nice finding and playing the game years later and remembering the different story options from the book 😅
I love seeing collections. Sometimes I remember some games/boxes/systems I either sold/lent to a friend/lost/got stolen and it makes me sad I don’t have them with me anymore but ultimately brings me a smile that I have so many memories with them and reminds me I enjoyed them and myself a lot.
i’ve only just discovered you, and these collection videos are the first I’ve watched. I played pokemon yellow on the gameboy color when i was little, but it wasn’t mine it belonged to my church. The first pokemon game I ever played and beat was actually Sun, and it was such a formative and fun experience. I named my litten Cutie, not knowing what it’s evolutions were, so by the end I was challenging the elite four with an incineroar named Cutie! It was such a joy!
Ahh the GBA. My childhood! The GBA was probably one of the few 'new' consoles I really wanted when it came out as every console since, I've been sceptical for some reason (maybe I just don't like change?). I have so many memories with the games that I don't even know where to begin, so I'll start with how I got my GBA! Feel free to skip to the paragraph after if this is boring to anyone 😅 As a kid I didn't really ask for a lot, as I would rather my presents be a surprise since I was open to whatever was bought for me. It didn't matter what it was as long as it was fun stuff (I would grumble at clothes or deodorant lol). It was therefore a _compete surprise_ when my real parents (who I didn't live with) sent me a brand new GBA! I couldn't believe it! For months I'd be seeing adverts for the new GBA games in my copies of The Beano comic and dreamt of the possibilities the GBA had to offer. I even had several friends who had one and it seemed pretty cool, but I was too grateful for the original Gameboy and games that I STILL owned (and own!). So yeah, it was a big surprise to see they managed to save enough money to get me this even though they probably never heard how much it meant to me (because of my handful of contact meetups a year). The earliest memories I have are Super Mario Advance, a game my foster brother tried to convince me couldn't be a remake (he'd never heard of the NES/SNES versions), Sonic Advance 3, Army Soldiers(?), Game & Watch Gallery Advance and more (I'm struggling to remember my first game. Probably because I spent a lot of time replaying Pokémon and other GB/GBC titles). This device was freaking holy to me. I could honestly go on for many paragraphs highlighting my experience with every game, but I think I'll just summarise with the fact that the GBA line up is probably one of the best I've ever know for a console. This is a must have if you don't own one (or you can always pirate the games 😙🎵). Those 32-bit graphics are beautiful, and I've not seen a single game yet that puts the colour spectrum to waste. The only downside is the audio quality, because it's halfway between chiptune and radio quality. It's fuzzy and in-between. The last thing I want to say is how even to this day, IN 2020, I keep finding about games that exist for the console I had never heard of but really want to play, games that look interesting or cool enough for me to wish I had them in my childhood. Like Final Fantasy VI, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Super Mario Ball (also known as Mario Pinball Land), and now this video with that Yoshi game! Aggh! The GBA is truly a gem that will never happen again, but I'm so happy to have experienced as much as I have with the little unit 😁 it's just that epic
I got my GBA as a hand me down from my cousin. By 2006 that thing was a relic, but it was still in pretty good condition. He had all the best games for it already though, Emerald, Firered, Metroid Fusion, and some other licensed games. I picked up the DS lite next and I spent way more time on it, but the GBA sticks with me.
These videos have been hitting home recently. Early this year I started collecting n64 games that I always wanted and now have a huge library with a few boxed games. I've been thinking of shifting to GBA collecting but...well yeah. Anyway loving the shift of focus and your commentary has gotten a lot more laid back and it really works.
8:40 99gamers was awesome I found them through your old sponsorships and I ended up getting Pokemon Diamond in box for roughly 14 dollars back in 2015. Thanks for getting sponsored by them lol
I watched your videos since like 2010 2011-ish and I think this is the first time I’ve commented, and I just got to say this video is just filled with nostalgia and happiness in its purest form for me!
TAMA!!! Ik you've been bombarded with similar comments but truly from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for keep on keeping on and giving my siblings and I countless amount of informative entertaining content! Much love :) Forever a fan!
My little sister is a huge fan of Mario games, the Choose Your Own Adventure books sound like something she would really enjoy! Thanks for bringing them to my attention, I think she'll be really happy :D
Growing up, a friend of mine showed me one of those mario world choose-your-own adventure books, I couldn't remember what series they were from so I could never track them down (I had convinced myself they were paper mario for some reason). Thanks for helping me solve a childhood mystery!
Having been a fan of Fire Emblem for so long I still get a swell of excitement whenever anyone mentions it despite it being more well known nowadays so that was a surprising treat!
My grubby hands 😆 love that your collection isn't cluttered with things you don't want. I made that mistake and I have more than I could ever play. I often feel overwhelmed and often can't chose what to play. I would suggest people only buy what they intend to play.
I've thought about purchasing a gba in the past but given how many fake cartridges are floating around I didn't think I'd be smart enough to tell the difference and get scammed. I wish they'd release a virtual version of Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire on the Switch or something. Also your cats are so cute!
It's been quite some time since I've watched your videos, your name came across in my feed, and just a wave of nostalgia came over me from watching your UA-cam channel when I was younger! Seeing how you've flourished from this pikachu loving, pokemon fan, to someone who's grown so much from that time! It's been actual years since I have seen a video, I'm honestly really happy you're still making videos, guess who just hit that notification bell! I'll be watching more vids of yours soon!
Yaaaay! A new Tamashi video! Thanks for the uploads Tama. I've been deep diving into all of your older content and all it does is make me want more and more of your newer stuff. Seeing your ability, skill, and confidence rise over the years is so cool. And your recent content is seriously top-notch. I never get tired of the ending, See Ya!
Thank you for giving praise to the GBA port of "Donkey Kong Country", Tama. I LPed the GBA port for my channel specifically because I love that port of the game, and because everyone who's LPed the original DKC games always default to the original SNES versions. I love the SNES versions, but I feel the GBA versions deserve some attention, too. Heck, I also did the GBA port of "Zelda: A Link to the Past" when I LPed that, too. Sorry for all the shameless plugging. I just wanted to get that off of my chest. Keep being awesome, and congrats on getting the Tama doll produced! :)
I'm happy I started collecting retro games when it was cheap. I got my copy of Luigi's mansion for 5 bucks used at a gamestore that's now closed down. Same with animal crossing gcn.
13:18 A wild Eon Ticket appears WOW lol I've been trying to get one of those for a while, being from Ireland I never got the chance to attend that event or get it back in the early 2000's
I discovered this video from UA-cam recommendations and I knew I liked it when I saw that pretty cat! Awww! I'm excited to watch more of your videos because this kind of content is very much right up my alley.
My original Red and GameBoy was water damaged in a canoe when visiting Central America, right after beating the game there too. Years later, my house was broken into, and my games were all stolen except for a Pokemon Ruby that was buried in a drawer. Most of my current store games are DS Pokemon games, to which I'm glad I got HeartGold and Platinum with the Spiky Eared Pichu and TRU Arceus.
7:25 that shelf is now holding a couple thousand dollars in worth, I can't believe I ended up selling my mint condish copy of Sapphire back in 2015 for $50 bucks :(
still have in mint shape my box and cart of crystal, silver, ruby, sapphire, leaf green, emerald, fire red and blue version. also have in okish shape the official guides for all those games from nintendo/nintendo power(remeber when they actually made guides!). they prob worth tons my copies. unsure when ima sell them but there a really nice display piece. bought them each on launch way back in day.
Oh man I really regret throwing out all my GBC and N64 boxes, but for some reason i still kept all my GBA boxes. Going through the manuals still brings me joy.
Nice story, it’s always nice looking back on some stuff in your collection and reminiscing about it, thanks for sharing. As for drill dozer you can always play it on Wii U if you wanna keep it sealed, like another commenter pointed out. Nice link cable collection and ereader I always wanted a ereader but the GameStop by me always wanted 60 for it. Your link cable collection reminds about something, I had a link cable I bought A longtime ago that was pretty useful that came with in adapter that allowed it to be used with older and newer game boys. Wish I still had but gave it to someone I found out that didn’t value me as much as I did them. Hopefully one day I will find it again. As for 99 gamers their was an article if I remember correctly that talked about it but I don’t remember where I found it, and some forum post. So you said you were able to use your sponsorship without having to send any of your stuff which is great but pretty unfair. But people still got paid? Which is nice, so was it kinda like a pseudo sponsorship? Anyway thanks for the vid kudos on your plushie being made and take care of yourself. 😊
As a Star Wars fan, I would gladly watch a video where you ripped in to an old Star Wars GBA game. Partly because I’d enjoy hearing an outsiders perspective on one of my favorite franchises but mostly because I enjoy your content.
Excellent video girl! I love how much passion shows through with each item you're showing off. I especially love that informative piece you did on the Reproduction carts! You've got yourself a new subscriber! 💕
Nice collection! the e-reader is up there on the list of strange accessories, but it is a really cool concept that I really wanted when I was younger... kind of glad I wasn’t able to pick one up back then for full price only to realize I would need another GBA, same as you!
Great collection. I cherish all my Pokemon games. X&Y got me back into Pokemon games. Thus started the Pokemon retro collection, going to any game store that carry retro games always gives hard looks when inspecting the old GBA games.
I've gotten a few good games for ridiculously low prizes in those little shops that sell random used electronics. Got Leaf Green, Fire Red, Sapphire and a Ruby for 5€ each and couldn't believe it myself. Just swapped the batteries which is super easy to do when if you aren't an electrician like me who specialises in small electronics and I'm glad I got those games. I have a good amount of GBA games and still like that system a lot
The GBA was my first retro console. I was a DS kid and it blew my mind that there were pokemon games besides BW/DPP, and since i had a Dsi i had to pick up a GBA. Whenever my brother hears that it makes him feel old, since he grew up with the GBA
I remember discovering this channel back in 8th grade. I don't think I was supposed to, but I used one of my classroom's laptops to watch your video on Pokéshipping, and that was how I got hooked on this channel. In about early 2017, I thought you weren't coming back, but I was proven wrong when I saw your video on Amourshipping, which I find to be a little ironic. Anyway, I appreciate the consistant uploads again, and I hope that you're back to stay, Tamashii. #TamaHiroka
Im jealous of those pokemon gba boxes! I do have 3 other gba boxes complete. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Mario and Luigi super star saga, and a link to the past. I hold onto my 40 boxed DS games tight.
Ooh :) i love my GBMicro. I recently had to order a new face plate, since the old one had a slight crack. Then I ordered sticker face plates from Etsy. Have some nice designs. Honestly, GBA is probably my favorite platform, along with PS2. Plenty of great games! People would tell me to just emulate GBA games, but I actually really like playing the physical copy. Even now, I’m still collecting GBA games. Also, can’t wait for my tama-plush! :D
Really regret missing out on this platform. There were many excuses I could’ve given at the time as to why I didn’t pick up a GBA (I was a broke college student, it didn’t have a backlight, the backlit version didn’t have a proper headphone port) but when I look at all the games I missed out on including Pokémon Emerald, Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion, Kingdom Hearts, etc I really regret what I missed out on.
Early 2000’s Pokémon stuff is so hard to find and collect, back in the day it wasn’t so bad! But nowadays with how even more mass produced stuff is makes it sooo hard! Especially Pokémon plushies from back in the day 😔😔😔😔
Best way to tell a real GBA cart from a fake is to look on the right side of the label for a stamped number. These are usually somewhere above the Nintendo seal of quality stamp, and this method also works on GB and GBC carts.
I do the exact same thing. Rather than getting all the collector pieces that everyone hunts for, I get what I want to collect. I have some REALLY weird stuff, like a Spanish copy of Pokémon Blue that I saw in a stream years ago and although the streamer was Spanish, that experience was great so I bought the same version. Don't speak Spanish, still collect it.
Another item I have is a pink GBA. Growing up, we had a neighbor who had a daughter my age, and she had a Pink GBA. I used to go round and play a lot, and we'd play Wind Waker. She'd play on the GameCube and I'd connect her GBA and act as Tingle (she called me that, too. Seeing as I was always the assist). I ended up leaving the country for a long time, and when I returned they'd all moved. Could never find her on social media, and I owed it to her to continue that memory. So I got bought Wind Waker, a Pink GBA and the GBA/GC Link Cable and I play with my wife. I'm still Tingle.
That GBA Gameshark with a “suspicious DS port” on the back was actually marketed as an Action Replay device in my country. As far as I remember, it had cheats for GBA games, and functioned as a bit of a memory-backup for some DS games.
I feel your pain sister, my gba drowned in chocolate milk ✊🏼😔 your collection is really making me want to search for gba games. I have a decent amount of them, but I ultimately just stopped searching due to all the fakes and the sea of licensed games. I think I’m going to pause my gamecube collection (as prices are INSANE right now) and pick up the GBA collection again!
Please don't ever remind me of Sailor Moon: Another Story again. I still remember spending literally half an hour on Mercury's boss fight with her evil double. I couldn't believe that bosses could run out of attacks in that game, leading to many turns of just chipping away at her.
Cool collection. Yes, luck can play a big factor of finding very cool and even items that are very expensive. I was able to find a complete Pokemon Heart Gold with the outerbox, manuals, and Pokewalker for $8 at my local Goodwill in 2019. Also, I found a seller on Offerup that were asking $50 for 3 Nintendo DS, GameBoy Micro and a loose copy of Pokemon Heart Gold. And they make awesome stories to tell to family and friends of the adventure and journey you got when searching for these games.
I also own Star Wars Episode II on the GBA and I also didn't but it. It was gifted to me by the now ex-boyfriend of my aunt who used to play GBA games while he was in the military. After he left the army he just had them in a box and gave me the games after learning that I played GBA games, too.
I have a ton of nostalgia for the GBA, I've been rebuilding my old collection because I still have all the boxes and manuals but lost some of the games. Only got one cart left to go :) but like you said it's hard to find authentic carts these days. I really think you should get a GBA flash cart btw, I recommend the EZflash Omega. That way you can play drilldozer without opening the box and it's the best way to play romhacks great video!
You were one of the first poketubers I watched and started my addiction to UA-cam. :) Thanks for being awesome!
Facts. its nice to see her making content still. I was surprised when I got her in my notifications. Freaking UA-cam definitely doesn't do a good job of keeping all my subs vids on my page. Oh well
@@rektyrektingson4668 The only channel I have the bell on for.
True!! I can’t believe this appeared in my timeline and I’m glad I remembered!!!
same! i still remember browsing UA-cam and saying "Oh cool, the channel that does those Poké-ROMhacking vids made a video about Pokemon Green"
bro same
So instead of being sponsored you sponsored Them
That is such a power move
I've enjoyed this shift in focus from reviews to talking about strange and obscure corners of gaming history. And it's always fun to watch people gush about their collections.

Pouring one out for your original GBA. Drowned by cough syrup, gone too soon.

You can download a GBA emulator and play ANY game you want, for the price of.... FREE.
Well at least star wars liscenced games had a higher chance of being good

@@TheReZisTLust if you 'whap'd a misbehaving child with a PAL PS1 case, it would break beyond repair, lol. I hated how fragile the cases were haha
As an American, same thing but vise versa.
I'm a high school English teacher and I MUST get the grades don't measure intelligence hoodie for those rare casual Fridays.
@aIysdexia Grades measure your ability in a subject. Just because someone has good or bad grades it doesn't define their intelligence.

i’ve only just discovered you, and these collection videos are the first I’ve watched.
Feel free to skip to the paragraph after if this is boring to anyone 😅
As a kid I didn't really ask for a lot, as I would rather my presents be a surprise since I was open to whatever was bought for me.
Thx 4 sharing
I like that you know what you want out of your collection. Some collectors grab whatever and then regret it later. Well done!
99Gamers was a disaster that shut down a few years ago without notice. It's suspected that the owners took the money and ran.
Your collection looks so lovely on shelves! I'd love a video with you showcasing the figures and plushes you have - they all seem so nice!
Idk why but it made me really happy that you used your platform to support a black-owned business. Hope to buy from them soon.
Love you Tamashii. We don't see you often but your videos are always a welcome escape
I love your new videos, I missed you for a while but I am glad you made a comeback and your new stuff is honestly the best you have made ever
You've been my favorite poketuber since 2015. It's so awesome to see you're posting regularly again
Tama with the pikachu onesie & red hair gives me flashbacks to when I was beyond obsessed with pokemon. The good ol’ days 🥺
Tama, I love these videos about your different collections!
Oh man I really regret throwing out all my GBC and N64 boxes, but for some reason i still kept all my GBA boxes. Going through the manuals still brings me joy.
Good to see you back. Miss your content so much.
Charming and wholesome as always! I am very glad you are making more videos again - Keep up the great work, Tama! :)
8:56 thats in fact why that company went under. They were just giving away points for promos like these and it made the value of the points worthless.
I once found one of those ds/gba gameshark at goodwill for 32 cents. it worked!
That pikachu gba is perfect! I love when they color code the buttons too!
I used to watch your videos, like binge watch because you explain things so eloquently. I'm just happy to see you are fine :)
The GBA is so underrated
Right?! I have so many games loaded on my PSP.
So happy youre making videos again, reminds of old times
Even when you know how to tell if something's real, it's super difficult to find anything in decent condition because people tear their stuff apart
Great video - my (tiny) collections are also all over the place, but in my eyes it makes them all the more personal
I had one of those Star Wars games for GBA and I LOVED it. Mostly, just because it was Star Wars and I was 12
Excellent video girl!
It’s good to have you back on UA-cam!
Im so happy that u started uploading videos again ❤❤
Man that Pikachu hoodie brings back such memories. You were one of the first UA-camrs I subbed to.
OMG yes! The choose your own adventure book! I had the same one ❤❤❤ I wish there were more choose your own adventure books but for adults
I'm still Tingle.
i love these types of videos, you should do more like it
That GBA Gameshark with a “suspicious DS port” on the back was actually marketed as an Action Replay device in my country. As far as I remember, it had cheats for GBA games, and functioned as a bit of a memory-backup for some DS games.
I really happy you're back! You're just so entertaining to watch! Have an amazing week!
My first game boy was a Pikachu SP and it has served me well for 15 years even if the paint is fading off and the stickers are peeling
Love your content and its great to see so many new videos from you back to back. I also greatly appreciate your choice in sponsorship.
Oh my god I found your channel again, this takes me back
This video makes me feel very nostalgic. I love the gba era of games.
Wow glad I seen this in my feed! Awesome to see you're still making videos!
Came for the collection. Stayed for the cat. Also I have a CIB Drill Dozer too -- but it's wide open no shrinkwrap.
That way you can play drilldozer without opening the box and it's the best way to play romhacks
great video!
