I live on Whidbey Island, have been watching your videos now for two weeks and have over 10 pages of notes from all the PNW to Alaska. I appreciate all the knowing you two are sharing, Thank You very much.
Just love the videos, scenery great, but beside you two humans those cats were Stars. Fun to see cat life on board. We have a black and white short hair, named Munchie!
I would like to make a request. I would like to see your boat move from the viewpoint of another boat or the shore. Also your skiffs. I understand the large one can go rather swiftly. I suspect many would find it interesting to watch Sea Venture cruising still water at normal speed and at top speed. It would give your viewers a good visual of what the cruise is like sort of like a third person perspective
Ken, we have been thinking about that as well. We could do it either from the tender or from the drone. We have been practicing hand launching and retrieving the drone so we can do from the boat. One way or another, we will make it happen. Thanks, Jim
Trevor - that would be all Rosy's editing. Good eye on the new line. It was just temporary. It's gone now. We were playing around with possible ways to cover the boat in case of a lot of snow. Instead we have good a good soft tipped shovel. Thanks for watching. Jim
We actually bought a fishing schooner to come up to Ak in the late Fall from Oregon but the boat was not ready for the trip. Rescheduled for the early Spring which we have done before and liked it. I hope to see what mid Winter cruising looks like when it rolls around.
Again, thanks for scratching my itch with yet another well produced video. We're 'trapped' in Arizona until June when we will board our 58' Hatteras and explore the amazing waters of the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, we have no plans to venture to Alaska this year. So I watch with envy...
June seems like a long time away! The weather should be great by then and hopefully Canada will be open for cruising (though I wouldn't bet on it). There should still be lots of great places to go, and maybe the chance to seek up to Alaska will present itself at some point. Thanks for watching, Jim
Vince, thanks. Since we have figured out we had some control on the number and placement we have agonized over them. If left to UA-cam, this video would have had 7 commercials in it. . . Thanks for watching. Jim
Hi Jim and Rosy, great video, loved the snow topped mountains. Jim, I just about fell out of my chair when you mentioned your monthly health care premiums of $1900.00 a month. I’m glad I live in Canada or I’d be broke at those rates! I suffered a mild stroke in July 2018, all surgery, hospital care ( 2week stay) and rehab was covered by my OHIP. My upgraded room coverage was covered by my private plan covered by my employer. Keep well!
Rosy and I went back and forth about if we should put that in there, but decided it might be a surprise to the reality of the American health care system and what it cost. I think the reality is it keeps a lot of Americans from retiring early as we did and/or causes a lot of Americans who do retire early to live somewhere else in the world besides the US. Thanks for watching, Jim
I lived in the Vancouver BC area for many years. Every weekend my coworker and I would go crabbing, prawning and trolling for salmon. I transferred to Edmonton Alberta and now the largest body of water I see is the kitchen sink while I am washing my dishes..haha
Welcome aboard. Hopefully you will find some other of our videos to enjoy as well. One of the great ones, (not because of us, but because of the Humpback Whales) if you haven't see it is: ua-cam.com/video/l5VKz8EqDsw/v-deo.html Thanks for watching, Jim
Excellent Q&A segment this week. Running the water maker while cruising makes sense from an energy demand perspective, but I had not thought about the marine live perspective is an eye opener.
Jim, Yes, we have spent lots of time with Richard and his wife. They are just a couple of docks over from us. He has been on some serious journeys. Thanks for watching, Jim
As for your good weather, I kind of hate seeing it as I know the weather of the lower 48 always starts in Alaska. So your good weather means we here in Arizona suffer extreamly hot and very dry weather. All of 2020 in Arizona was extreamly hot and dry. The whole of the year you could count on one hand the days that it rained. So please pray that you see more wet weather as that means we here in Arizona might get some rain!
Ken, Well the rain should be on the way, because, while this video was filmed in October, since November it's been raining, and December and January have been wetter and warmer here than normal. Thanks for watching, Jim
We did get our book! It looks really good to - with lots of history on the area and the anchorages, which we really enjoy. We plan to head north to PWS sometime in April. We will work our way to Elfin Cove then start looking for a weather window to make the leap. We have friends with a Nordhavn 47 that we may buddy boat with across the gulf as well. Thanks, Jim
@@CruisingSeaVenture wonderful. Well Eric and I are excited to meet you. We are a wealth of info after 25+ yrs on the sound. Maybe we can raft up a few times this summer. Stay in touch. You have our email.
Great info, esp. the Q & A. What do you do for heat at anchor, I'm watching this on my sailboat with a kerosene heater, in puget sound in january, and it's not keeping me as snug as I'd like. Do you use a dehumidifier also?
We have a diesel forced air furnace, and it has been great. It's an inexpensive Chinese model from Amazon. We added a lot of extra parts from Sure Marine in Seattle to make a good installation on a boat. The one we got is currently out of stock, but so you can see what it's like, here is a link. amzn.to/3nuApy6 It was so inexpensive we actually have a 2nd one in the box as a spare. It was under $200. We do have a dehumidifier as well, but it hardly comes on with the diesel furnace running, since it produces such a dry heat. It uses very little power as well. Anyway, we are very happy with it. Thanks for watching, Jim
@@CruisingSeaVenture I have a 12-yr old Webasto hydronic system installed that, according to Sure Marine (where the head now resides), should be replaced. At a discounted cost of $2,600 if I do the installation myself. Otherwise, $1,500 for the repaired unit w/o 10 year warranty. The Chinese stuff is looking like it might be a good alternative. Do you think I could rig it to the existing exhaust and use the heater output to heat the existing heat exchanger?
Hi Shanlib, ,yes the knock off brands work great I'm putting one on my 36' aluminum build. Google marine boat heater in Alaska. Mine is a hydronic 17m but. Research and see what you think.
Hi, I was wondering, now that you are into the cold weather, do you have survival suits on board? I did underwater inspections of channel markers off of Petersburg in January many years ago, and the water was chilly, although I was toasty in a dry suit. Cheers to you both!
Hi Jake, While we haven't included it in any videos, we are divers with dry suits on board, so if we needed to get in the water unexpectedly hopefully the dry suits will do the job. We also have a 6 man Winslow offshore life raft. Thanks for watching, Jim
Another great video! Really enjoy watching and dreaming of boat days. Question- what is the garmin device used for in the pilot house? Is this for Text, SOS and other Inreach capabilities?
Yes, Our Garmin InReach does that and provides are tracking available to all viewers. Here is the link to see where Sea Venture is and the current weather. Thanks, Jim forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/SeaVenture
Such a calming video your music is so nice. I do have a question as I see on some long cruising boats have what they call a sea chest that water comes into a strainer before distribution to the mechanicals, does Sea Venture have that type of water intake? thanks
Matt, Great question. Sea Venture does not have a sea chest, instead she has different through holes, each with a strainer, for each item that needs a sea water source. The advantage of a sea chest is just one hole in the hull vs. several. Oh well, you can't have everything, right! Actually, all of our through holes are very accessible, and reinforced, so we feel very safe with them. Thanks for watching, Jim
Jim, We have 3 - 5 gallon plastic jerry cans, plus the tender holds 12 gallons. It seems to last quite a long time and anytime we need fuel when we are in a town we launch the tender and take it and the jerry cans to the fuel dock. Thanks for watching, Jim

The cat content this week was premium quality... Also what is the new line off the center of the bow up to the flybridge?

So jealous. Hi from Brisbane Australia 🤠
Great, thanks.
I still love the cats. Barkley is pretty animated. I have a Tuxedo cat.
I will be looking for you if you make it into Auke Bay! Really enjoy your videos.
