Doesn't matter. Cars aren't going to be able to, or particularly focused on, the shape of the indicator. The important thing is just that it's visible.
@@rasmusvedelexcept those drivers that do notice, as well as other cyclists and those of us who wonder why such an obvious silly choice was made. I noticed this issue the instant I saw the gloves before even seeing the footage of them turned on and questioned why it was done that way. While it may not "matter" in the strictest sense that they could have used any arrangement and orientation of lights and just relied on it being on the hand that is sticking out from your body in the direction you intend to turn but, in choosing to use a chevron or arrowhead, it is inexplicable from a semiotics standpoint that you wouldn't use the chevron's orientation as a directional signal as well.
If they made a wristband out of it, you could use it with any glove you want. It would also greatly reduce production cost for them, because with one or two sizes they would be able to serve just about everyone. Instead of having multiple types of gloves in multiple sizes.
🥖 Finally, reflective underwear! Reflective tape is also a great addition to bike frames. 3M even makes black tape that is almost invisible on a black frame in daylight.
That was one of the first things I added to my commuter bike. I used Gear Aid reflective Tenacious Tape. It works really well and sticks quite easily to curves and most things because it's relatively soft. It's now also on my shoes and helmet.
I bought my first decent AliExpress front light almost 7 years ago, the brand name is Gaciron and I'm still in love with it. Since then I've bought another 2 front lights and 4 rear ones and I'm really, really happy with them, they have never let me down, not once (except for one rear light that i tried to secure onto my MTB saddlebag and lost on a trail somewhere, my bad). Just wanted to share
Years ago I got front lights with battery pack that attaches to frame with velcro, that were super bright (3 levels) and battery lasted forever. And all that for about 20$. Amazing value.
For indicating in the dark, I've found that high viz workman's gloves are great. They might be something like high viz orange on the back of your hand and white leather on the palm, and both colours are really easy to spot by car drivers with their lights on.
The 2 pairs of gloves I've got have a reflective material on the back. I've checked them out from a distance using my bike light and they seem pretty effective.
Best rear light I've found so far is the Rockbros Q5. It has both a motion sensor and a light sensor, so it only lights up when the bike is moving after sundown. That means maximum runtime and I can never forget to turn it off after a drive, or forget to turn it on before I leave. Once it's charged up, I just screw it onto its mount and do not touch it until it's run out of charge again. The light figures out when it's needed and when not, which is super convenient! Oh and it also has brake detection to alert whoever is behind you. I've looked for other lights with both motion+light sensors, but could not find any.
The Sigma Blaze has the same functionality, in the bright it will turn on but only does brake light and without any movement it will automatically turn off after approx. 9 minutes. I have it and like it, only downturn is the rubber-ring mounting, I just finally got the proper Handlebar mount for my Supernova Airstream after 10 years of using the stock mount with rubber rings - and constantly re-adjusting it every few kilometres, I prefer a plastic or metal seatpost clamp that gets screwed on with a quick-release for the light to take off and recharge. They also offer a "Link" bundle with a version of the Blaze and the Aura 100 headlight, seemingly when you turn on the headlight, that rear light also turns on.
I always struggle with the mounts instead of the light itself. I have resorted to rockbross lights that have been in my bikes from 2019, but they rattle a lot. Quite embarrassing in rough roads, but they last a full night ride and some.
The only thing I'd like to mention as a side note to everyone: please try to angle your lights slightly downwards so you don't dazzle others. I try to angle my front lights a tiny-tiny bit to the right and slightly down (EU) so there is less chance of my lights hitting someone straight in the eye.
The rechargeable glowing ankle straps are great for being seen at night, because your pedaling motion attracts more attention than a regular tail light. I bought mine for about $3 USD....One charge last a couple of hours.
Been trying them out this week. Work great and you can attach them to your bike bag if your main rear light goes out or you forget it like I managed to do this week.
@ingulari3977 reflectors are good, but the straps light up, not just reflect. If another driver or cyclist doesn't have their headlight on, then reflectors won't be seen to them. Also in the USA, rear lights should be red. Those straps come in green, red, blue, and amber.
Ah good to know about the gloves and the vest and the like, thanks for showing. See i happen to live in Germany and the regulations are almost unreasonably stringent here, you're not allowed to have lights on your bike for which there's no official permission, K-number and test certificate. This also goes for reflective elements, though as far as say applied tape on the frame there's various opinions, it goes into grey area territory. Well you can clip random headlights to your handlebar and it's perfectly fine as long as you don't use them on the road and don't potentially blind oncoming drivers, but if you need extra lighting on a forest trail just have at it, they don't need to be regulation. But i'd really like some turning indication and thing is while lights on your bicycle are regulated, the garments are not, you're allowed to make yourself into a Christmas tree if you care and i'm absolutely going to test the limits of this legal loophole.
German laws are ridiculous at times. The bike part of the StVZO specifically feels like it was written when carbide lamps were still a thing. I've switched to using a headlamp as a headlight. Doesn't need to be StVZO-konform so price is lower, can be as bright as you need it to be, is unlikely to blind people since you'll be shining down and is available at all sorts of price points with whatever battery life you need. It also works a lot better on a mtb. Normal headlights just bounce around out on the trail, a headlamp will track wherever you are looking.
Great Video! Are you also using daytime LEDs? With distracted drivers, every bit helps. Also the bonus product reminds me of the ultra reflective frame tape that can be quite subtle in the daytime if you choose a frame matching color. Keep up the great work!
Visibility is important, especially when you are change direction! The blinking glove ispretty cool! I have tried my buddy's Livall Evo21 Smart Helmet and it is also a pretty cool tech. But much more expensive tho.
i have the towild br800 because of your video actually, and i love it. it lasts long and doesnt let water in. bonus for the swappable battery if it eventually kicks the bucket. for my rear light i have some rechargable with micro usb which illuminates back and on the floor aswell, which is why i kept it. when that thing breaks i will probably look at those you recommended
For a front light, I bought a cheap Ali Express flashlight compatible with 1860 and 2100 lithium batteries and 6000mAH batteries separately. I can't tell for long term usage but I'm currently very happy with the coverage and batterie life. Total budget is below 20€. It can be mounted with accessories provided with most head unit / go pro mount.
6:26 Damn, I paused the video here to see whether the 1300 was newer than the 1700 or why you would want the 1300 vs the 1700 with respect to specs and all that. Wish I would've just carried on watching. LOL

The rear light with the arrows would work much better if the center stayed on constantly while the arrow flashed. Now it just looks like a flashing light. Maybe the arrows should also be larger yellow blocks instead of arrows.
Using a jacket with retro-reflective sleeves (altura nightvision in my case) makes it super obvious to cars behind when you're indicating and doesn't need any button presses
Hi Luke, great video, you reviewed cheap stuff honestly, and I really liked that. If possible, can you review some bike computer next? Something like IGSport and stuff? That would be cool, thanks!

Honestly I do not get these Magicshine things for headlights, I use Lumintop B01 that run off 18600/21700 and last 200 hours in DLR-type mode or 30-40 on regular beam. Good beam pattern too, with nice cut-off to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Plus you can just swap the battery whenever…
very helpful, i do my best not to ride in the dark, but these front lights look wonderful. Does the reflective tape come in narrow strips? wouldnt it make sense to tape the back of the seat stays, and the back of the seatpost on bikes? Especially those running white bikes, as it would barely be visible? And the back of road pedals? and the back of helmets? and the back of the saddle?

"1PC 100cm 5cm Warning Light Reflector Protective Sticker Warning Tape Reflective Film Car Safety Mark Reflective Strip Stickers" from aliexpress is awesome, reflectors are mandatory in my country (LTU), these are a nice cheat to keep it slim ;)
Reflective gloves would be better than light up gloves, and light indicators on a bike are a bit silly as nobody expects a cyclist to have indicators so they never see them. The tape is a good idea and I would also add reflective tape to your bike too, can get some cracking ones that can colour match your bike and helmet too
About four years ago I bought four XOSS 400lm headlights from AE. I've never been out of batteries ever since. 400lm sounds like not a lot but trust me it is more than sufficient and you can always choose to mount all four of them. Hi Luke you mention som time ago (i cant find it again) that there is a website you can shop ali express products from without going on aliexpress, like som britts testing stuff and then reselling parts they like.
Some nice rear lights in the selection there but get back to me when you find some funky front lights that fit nicely the the steertube under the stem please 🙏 PS The gloves are actually a brilliant idea as overgloves for city/road riders. Well the ones who bother to indicate at least 🤪
Anyone know how to use that iron on stuff on windproof jackets, backpacks etc.? Those types of thing are nearly always made from plastic like polyester, so I don´t think they can take a high temperature at all without melting / being damaged. 🤔

The chevron on those gloves needs to be clocked 90 degrees so they point out to the sides and not the ground.

the big downside of the Navi800, it's her proprietary battery and the price to buy a spare one . better by a new lampe to have a second battery !
Luke, could you review the Lexon carbon road cranks if you get an opportunity.
Get some cheap 100 lumen work light meant for your head. Zip tie them to your hubs. It becomes a spinning light show. Everyone sees you.
Do you have spares roadbike 10 speed shifter and rear derailleur? Mine just broke but I don't have any Money since im still a student and I live in the Philippines, bike parts is so expensive for me lol
Not a fan of radar? I fell in love with my Bryton Gardia
do a mtb carbon chinesse build!
Why, he's not a MTB rider...
@@darkiee69he’s been exploring it lately and really pushing the limits of his gravel bike. Would love to see a “WOW! £1200 AliExpress carbon hardtail” build.
Here in Norway during polar night having a good light is a must. I've been using a Newboler bar light and it's been fantastic
garmin radar is the best
Hi luke big fan. would you consider doing reviews of fixed or track bike products from aliexpress ?

Why are you not transparent about that cheeky River Island sponsorship? :p
