Man, about 17 years ago, this exact style of music was playing nonstop at a video game shop in my city. The last traditional arcade nearby was closing down, but the video game store owners didn't quite have enough money to invest in their DDR machine, so they set up a version of StepMania on a laptop with those plastic foot pads that connected to the PS2, and they hooked it up to the big TV in the front area. For months, up until Smash Brothers Brawl came out, there was kids from the high school down the street coming in to play a few times a week, because they were trying to impress their girlfriends or whatever. I remember buying a friend a statuette of Lulu from FFX, and trading Magic the Gathering cards with dudes from Spanish class while we watched the owner decimate everyone at Soul Calibur. Showing each other 8-bit versions of metal songs on our tiny mp3 players because most cell phones were still flip-phones and didn't have enough memory to store a lot of songs unless you had a Blackberry or whatever. Staying up until 3am watching reruns of Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim, texting girls... What a crazy time the 2000s were. I wonder where any of those people are now.
This makes me feel old... I grew up on the outskirts of a bigger city and there was a card shop down the street that I would always go to with my friend, we stayed up late playing Xbox, just enjoying what little free time we had outside of school and chores. I forget when it happened but one day I ended up moving and we lost contact, later on I found out he's been playing professional football from his mom who ended up asking me if I wanted to get back into contact with him. I stared down at the ground for what felt like hours and eventually after careful thought I awnsered no, I don't want him to know me or what I've turned my life into.
Im also a nostalgic to that time although Im just 25 these songs, technics and the vibe ofc didnt just went away from my eye. Got a XBOX, PS1 and ofc the legendary brick stone Nokia at age 6 so the xbox theme is something that still causes goosebumps with vice city just booting
Im getting old to the point where Im looking back at my childhood, I turn 19 this year and Im gonna be going to collage next year after I save up from working full time.
bro I'm 18, never lived any of those moments, and yet I still feel nostalgic like it actual happened to me. They looked like such fun times to be around...

Was definitely better than now, especially in regards to balance with technology. I was born in 2003 so I never experienced it but looking back I’ll take it over now
social media seems to be overran by idiots with shallow interests and political polarization to where i can't find a place where i feel like i belong anymore. always happy to see that there's still people out there but i wish for a future in which it's easier to create interactions with simple, likeminded communities, free from all the hateful negativity that rots our minds. thank you for this playlist.
Power and money ruins pure relationship, I guess. Internet was a place where it was free from politics and mostly free to use. Now, it has become a place where business thrive and government's propaganda machine.
A small furry community is your best bet (even for non-furries), avoid big ones once you find it to stay out of any drama caused by artists xD Good luck, hope you find a loving place like many of us did
Vaporwave represented nostalgic longing for a time never known. Cybercore takes me back to the 2000s, where I was a kid with limitless imagination. This isn't nostalgia, it's inspiration and drive, to push forward just like kid me did in the 00's
I was too little for this era of internet and music back then, but I wanted to reach it so desperately and be like my older sister who played games after school all night. When she moved out of home she took our computer with herself and I was growing up without computer and internet until 13 when I got my first smartphone and 17 when I got my first PC, i was so sad internet is not like that anymore. It's like chasing something only to be left behind, I don't even have things to be nostalgic about, but this was my dream
Maybe it's only a dream to you then. But a dream is beautiful too :) You will find in time that you have your own things to be nostalgic for. That's beautiful also, but I think it's better to be learn to enjoy things in the present to your fullest extent. Let's hold the parts of the past important to us close, but make the most out of the present and future :D
Cybercore and the resurgence of Y2k/Frutiger aero, etc... really takes me back to when I was a kid and I'm happy to see that it has for so many people too. Even though in the 2000's I was just a kid and now I'm barely even a young adult, I remember the days of opening my crappy laptop to go on to newgrounds, youtube, that one stick games website, a10, non-doppler and so many of those websites back in the day. I think the reason why we all love this, aside from the nostalgia is just the fact that this was probably the perfect time to experience the cultivation of a growing era where everything was advancing, where technology was getting to the point where we could connect and find things at the press of few buttons but we still had time outside of it. Nowadays, the world is ran by the internet, every facet of life for most people on this planet is ruled by the internet and while I was lucky enough to grow up with the internet and technology, it feels like my life has been constantly surrounded by screens and technology. That's why nowadays, I want to go out, find someone to share that with and just sort of live life outside of the internet. But the internet will always have been my home away from home, it's helped me get through so much, connect with so many awesome people, find love. I owe alot of my life to the internet but it feels nice to disconnect every now and then. Not everyday is getting up just to see what's going on in the world, to connect online and worry about keeping up. In the modern day world, managed blissful ignorance feels beautiful and I think that being reminded of those simpler times helps so much in being reminded of that concept. Sorry about the long comment, it's ironic writing what I did and it being this long but, at the very least if you've read this far, I hope you've having a real great day. If you haven't, drink some water, take a walk for a few minutes, maybe even just play a video game to relax and enjoy your time alone, or go hang out with friends. Whatever it may be, I hope today is going great for you
Ah...y2k, the expectation for "the future", cyber trance music playing in Shibuya, or places like Velfarre, Gyarus and Ganguros, flip phones, Ayumi Hamasaki on the radio, PlayStation graphics.....Good times, i was already an adult (now a grumply old fart), but those memories stay in my heart. cheers!

You know the music is good when you can’t tell which name is the artist or song. It’s a solid identifier of this type of music. Is the name a hex code? What about a keyboard slam? Or maybe just a simple three letters? Then I guarantee you the song is good.
Fun fact, the background shows SCSI, that's Small Computer System Interface, right, was like the king of connecting hard drives n stuff back in the 90s, you know, when we didn't have these fancy SSDs or whatever, and oh boy, you think plugging in USB is annoying? Try figuring out which of the 68 pins you're supposed to mess with. But hey, it worked, and we all just pretended it made sense, right? Anyway, companies like Adaptec, bless their hearts, made sure we got to experience the joy of configuring these cards and drivers. Good times. Sorta.
we still use SCSI every day in the datacenter in the form of SAS (Serial Attached SCSI). It's likely you do, too, every time you access some webshitservice. A lot of data is still coming from hard drive arrays and not nvme. Same with Tape drives (LTO): There's one single supplier for all viable long-term backup solutions, and technically they all still use the SCSI protocol inside, over SAS, possibly over FC, but SCSI nonetheless. The future was invented a long time ago. You all just get very confused bec. the past is still happening and you do not notice all this stuff still happening already automatically in the background. Go check out SCSI-9, another awesome electronic music project inspired by the same future and the same legacy technologies. Knock yourself out.
Man this music sounds so catchy and cool! I see people in the comments talking about the past and whatnot, I'm definitely younger than most here, but I'm happy I found this.
My brother and I played this one more than any other one and Arena will forever live on in my heart. All these tracks give me nostalgia but I still have vivid memories of waking up early on Thanksgiving Break. Bro would still be asleep and I’d be playing the game at 0 volume. Once he finally crawled out of bed and went to take a shower I’d start cranking the music. Grandpa would be out in the living room watching westerns and Grandma would bring us turkey bacon and eggs for breakfast. Life was good. ❤ Shout out to the real ones who would grind Guan Yu’s Escape to hear this banger 💪 🔥

POV: You are driving over 300 km/h down an expressway at midnight and challenging a bunch or random street racers Idk but I, for some reason, associate trance with Wangan and highway street racing. Maybe because of the number of trance songs in the WMMT games.
For anyone wondering, the character in the thumbnail is Digital Witch Mayura. She was program that you could download to your computer as a desktop companion. POV: You are driving over 300 km/h down an expressway at midnight and challenging a bunch or random street racers
Idk but I, for some reason, associate trance with Wangan and highway street racing. Maybe because of the number of trance songs in the WMMT games.
For anyone wondering, the character in the thumbnail is Digital Witch Mayura. She was program that you could download to your computer as a desktop companion. I was big fan of this character when I was elementary school. YOu can still download her to your computer from the Wayback archive but I have not idea if this is compatible with modern windows
