Damn, a "2000s-anime web" playlist that...actually makes me feel the way those things did. And so many of these tracks are from the 2010s! Great playlist.
Fun fact! I tried to install windows xp on my laptop for the nostalgia, turns out, you get hacked pretty dang fast as soon as you login to the internet and open a browser. Thank you for the complimentss!
Well since the 2000s and the 2010s were all about trying to sound like the future, then we have come full circle. :D We are listening to this music in the future so we were right all along.
Many 2000 - 2010 artist did a good job on making things feel and sound as if its the future I can not lie Nintendo did go hard on making the wii and wii u futuristic. @@MacUser2-il2cx
Isn't it though? So many of these tracks have that specific vibe from Phantasy Star Online, with the sweeping dreamy pads, happy whistling, and a kind of sublime technological precision in the melodies that makes you feel like the net is an ever-expanding fantasy utopia. Early smartphones and social media put an end to all of that in the late 2000s, as people started bringing the ugliness of their real-world lives online, and mixing their psyches "seriously" with those of other people without our ancient social boundaries of politeness and respect. When we listen to this music from twenty years ago, we can hear a more innocent world in which normal people didn't expect the internet to make them celebrities, and online socializing was mostly done by nerds playing games or discussing things they loved. The good thing is we can still make it that way now, if we just choose to. Delete all social media and don't use a smartphone. Listen to happy music you love. Life can still be this way.
@@Margatroid Spot on. Back when the internet was more exclusive, it was better. Reminds me of how the internet used to be a place we 'went to' instead of carried on us 24/7. How ironic now to think back to when the internet was confined, how we, or atleast I, dreamed of the days of a Megaman Battle Network-like future where technology was in everything, the internet (and future in general) was a mysterious new world full of endless possibility, and we'd have little AI companions to guide us through it all. Now that we have those things, we realize AI is... not going to happen in that way, and the main use for most of our devices, gadgets, and the internet of things is really just surveillance and manipulation... They took our dreams and corrupted them. The music of this era told us 'the future is going to be great guys :)'... probably the last time we thought that way. Ah... well, maybe we can still get there at some point. We need to regain our utopian optimism and make it happen.
@@foxfjre I wrote a long reply to this but youtube keeps deleting it because it's critical of leftist cult ideology, lol. Part and parcel of our discussion. But it's a good example of how in order to have a happy future, we need to regain control of our public communication platforms, and absolutely prohibit all forms of thought-control. The exclusivity you spoke of, which makes for a happy and creative internet, is ironically part of that, because when intelligent people self-organize and share their time only with likeminded people, totalitarian censorship simply doesn't take place.
@@foxfjre I wrote a reply to this but youtube keeps deleting it because it's critical of cult groupthink censorship and the concept of "everyone being the same," etc. It's a vivid example of how in order to have a happy and creative electronic world, as we did in the 2000s, our public realms of communication have to be taken back from the totalitarians who think they can censor all speech and control all thought. My comment isn't even deleted, to me: it's still visible there on the page, unless I look at the page outside of my account. This behavior should be outright illegal, and I get the feeling that the next decade will see the rise of platforms in which people can actually speak their minds freely again, as we so happily used to do.
@@foxfjre I think the secret is that we were there already. In the utopian dreams of a culture, you can see what people desire in their hearts, and the tone of the kind of art we had in the 2000s is only achievable in an era when people are actually happy. We were living the dream at the time, but just didn't realize it. So the trick is just to start living that way again, _really_ living that way, with calm happy creativity rooted in genuine one-on-one friendships, and in the kind of exclusive communities you mentioned. Those are the environments in which people can have these happy, creative dreams. It's up to us to create them again, rather than just being sucked into corporately-controlled hive-mind enrvionments that stifle individual thought. We are the ones we've been waiting for!
I hate how hearing the first few notes of the Homebrew Channel made me go back to a sense of stress because of all the mods i kept adding only to crash it kinda had a pavlov effect but also nostalgic and sincere curiosity. Thank you Elia.

Unbelievable how we have the EXACT same taste… i’ve listened to sooo many frutiger aero/nintendo music playlists and tell me how these are the exact tracks that i’ve liked the most from them all… and now you put them all into one amazing playlist for us.. thank you!!!!

I've remember as a kid I would record myself playing classic Nintendo video games and playing around with plushies, i was really an Nintendo fan. after years as an adult, I really want to get into that feeling back then. also loved the soundtrack, really made me cheer up!
You did a really good job making this! It's fascinating to listen to music like this from that era that's so relaxing and joyful, and also technically complicated and interesting. It's crazy that even in 2015 the e-shop still had that exciting breakbeat--it feels like a real piece of music made by someone excited about their work, rather than churned-out elevator music. There's so much life in all of this, and so much obvious inspiration from great electronic music of the past. And a kind of utopian optimism that you also hear in early 2000s games like Phantasy Star Online, which I think directly inspired some of this stuff. Most of all, I think this music is instructive of the difference in a culture where people were still spending most of their time interacting with intelligent software and with real life, rather than with social media and phones. Real experiences, real friendships, privacy, and freedom make for a happy and creative world.
@@eliaxox I'm glad I made you happy! I always feel like putting some time and thought into writing something on youtube, even if it's brief, might show other people the appreciation I feel for what they've posted, and might give them the sense that we aren't living in some kind of static digital "after-history" era where no one can still make incisive remarks or be creative. Interestingly, discovering this mix you posted and also a bunch of really cool breakcore mixes on the same day made me realize that there is still a lot of creativity going on, at least in music. The inspiration is still alive, and people can feel for example how interesting this music was compared to much of what we have now. And in that breakcore stuff I could tell people are making music inspired by this, and by the digital aesthetics of the 2000s in general, which have aged extremely well. I hope you make more mixes like this! I will watch to see what you do. :)
