    I cried when he said his mom died and couldn't make it to the funeral. I couldn't see my own parents for 7 years. immigration is a very sensitive topic and it needs to be addressed.

      Yes and what changes on immigration would you impose? Lighter security? Immigration is fine how it is, you have to do it legally and thats exactly how it should be. People shouldnt be allowed to pour in and out of the country all the time, that's just ignorant.

    In phoenix, I see americans on the side of the road begging for money. Then I will see a Mexican selling flowers or roses or apples on exit ramp. They have different mentalities. Work hard and appreciate what you have, even if its little. I gave a homeless guy 5 bucks one time and he had the nerve to be upset because he asked for 10. Aside from the legality of them being here, I can say that MOST (not all) mexicans are good honest, hard working people.

      at work I feel like I don't work hard enough yet I've been the top puller and loader in my warehouse. Not sure how cause it always seems like everyone else does more.
      I've loaded five trucks in three hours with a 20 minute wait for each cause the office takes forever to get people ready.
      I see people load full pallets if things and have less to load than I do and I have to go back twice to a pallet of four drums 120 times for 80 drums and I get don't five minutes after they do and they started before I did. the other day I loaded 80 loose drums in about the same time it takes everyone else to load full pallets of them and only took about 5 to 10 more minutes than when I load full pallets of drums.
      works not the issue the issue is people's view of the work and thier in personal way of thinking.
      I always feel I don't do enough at the end if the day doesn't matter if it's busy it not. kinda seems like they don't want me just loading trucks anymore or just pulling orders tho cause ever since this days they keep pinballing me back and forth like they're scared I make them look bad but if they didn't talk so much and do whatever it is they do. them having years over me, they should be faster and do more than I can do.
      I'd be able to do more but all the bullshit orders her left on the table and of course I grab them cause who else will.
      and vacation days. I've only taken two, one by accident cause I missed my first day and the second about a year later which was last month or the month before, not sure cause my days run together but I don't really think it's worth payed vacation time cause it's sacrificing overtime to take vacation days. there now you know an American that doesn't play around at all at work and doesn't drink or party and does what's needed when needed.

      +Angel Chavez Americans want work commensurate with the amount of money they make.
      The amount you get paid to toil in the fields is similar to what an American would get paid to flip a burger.
      Pay an American a decent wage and provide benefits and a 401K and you'll see how many don't mind working in agriculture.
      These sorts of segments seem to ignore the part where these migrant workers are being exploited by their "employers" and the only reason they put up with it, is because there isn't better anywhere else when you don't have documents.

  • @wedge72
    @wedge72 6 років тому +69

    I grew up in a rural area and did this work as a teen. It was hot, back breaking work with long hours. the farmers in the area grew Cucumbers, peppers, beats and tomatoes and were always looking for cheap labor to help. There was a handful of local teens also there, but the vast majority of the workforce was migrant workers. The work certainly isnt for everyone, but not everyone wants to work behind a desk either. I dont think you are going to attract many people to the jobs without reform to the laws around paying workers in agriculture. While I dont regret the summers spent doing it, if you're just trying to earn a buck to get your first car, there are much easier jobs that pay more. The system needs an overhaul to be competitive, until then, the farmers are going to use cheap labor. It was a very common practice for the migrants to keep what they needed for groceries and take the rest of their income back home, with the exchange rate it was good money. I never had a bad experience with any of them, and learned quite a bit of spanish along the way. This situation isnt their fault, and we're all just trying to make our children's lives better. We need to start there and reach out from common ground and stop this divide from growing.

      @@alexo.3758 I appreciate and agree with what you are saying. You can't reason with a racist. The narrative will have to change with videos like this. So much for Mexicans being lazy,turns out produce is rotting in their fields and few American citizens are breaking down doors for jobs that Mexicans " stole". There are multiple videos like this. No migrant workers,no produce harvested except for machine harvested produce. Now people claim pay is the problem which is BS too. Even $20/hr would not get Americans to do that kind of work in hot sun. Thank goodness I live in Canada, even tho we have racists here too,the vast majority appreciate ethnic diversity. Racism is for the ignorant.

      @David Bryant I know so many white dudes who do illegal drugs. My white female friend tell me about how this white dude from her campus raped her. And I hear about this all the time on news. So many people do illegal stuff, and people like me who never did drugs and raped anyone have to contribute to clean after the mess. but I just take pride in the fact thatI am the clean and legal one. It is sad that immigrants are targeted and hated. They are scapegoats for white ppl who are not satisfied with their lowly life.

      At many jobs I've worked at, most American white folks I worked with wouldn't even last a month. They come with that conformist mentality of theirs of " I have a degree in psychology, art or law etc. etc. ....and this isn't what I wanted " kind of bullshit. So they leave and most likely do the same in other places. The way I see it (no ofense), is that white Americans can't see themselves that way. They always conform to whatever cookie cutter job (like office, receptionist, manager etc) they can land because IT doesn't require much or none effort at all !!! White Americans tend to take the easiest way out, I notice that they don't like to be bossed around being told what to do ...but they themselves love to boss others however they want. That's the mentality they have in their DNA.

It's not racism it's being realistic. Some people don't even want to work in an office for 10.00 an hour how else is all this supposed to look. If all illegals leave do you guys understand how expensive cost of living will get. its really upsetting when office workers complain about thier jobs. where I work they make more than the forklift drivers handling dangerous chemical's. all I can think when I hear anyone complain, even myself. is " At least we aren't underage starving kids that have to work harder than most Americans for a dollar a day and may have armed soldiers or guards standing over them. I hear more complaining from Americans in way better conditions than I've ever heard from a 10 or 15 year old child laborer.
      I went to grab something that wasn't in the right spot yesterday and got upset about it. then I wondered what if there's someone somewhere else and it wasn't a barrel in the wrong place and thier rifle that's supposed to be close by but someone moved it and they get attacked by a lion or people trying to take what they have.

He pays taxes that he’s probably not getting back, the process to get documents takes years, hows he going to get money within those years until his greencard comes through? Work visa? Does that apply for farm jobs like his? No, the H1-b is only for college educated skilled workers aka “suit and tie jobs” How is he going to get an education in a country thats too poor to fund good schools? Sometimes theres only one way to escape that and you Americans are unsympathetic and ignorant when it comes to the facts of life, your parents never taught you empathy, you’re all greedy and want it all to yourselves, when was the last time you helped an actual homeless vet? What is more detrimental to our economy, paying illegal immigrants to do the undesirable jobs or buying cheap product from China? I am not an economics specialist but I suspect supporting a foreign economy is horrible for our local and national economy. Shouldn't our priority be getting as much of our economy back in the country? To me it seems these illegal laborers are supporting the economy. Other wise those jobs would be shipped to China.

      It's not just the labor. The libtards and tree huggers have passed numerous regulations, environmental laws and corporate taxes that have made this country a hostile location for the manufacturing industry.

    • @akehres11
      @akehres11 8 років тому

      +akanathan You think Americans would do factory jobs while not wanting to do agriculuture work? The enviorment of both are similar, tough conditions, low skilled mind numbing work, and low paying. To keep manufactoring in the country would mean that you would have to heavily increase the cost of production due to massive wage increases. This would then increase the amount paid for the final product.
      Manufactoring in this country still happens, but you have to pay a premium on those products. Consumers obviously try to save when spending leading to those imported products being more desirable. If consumers spent more on US made products companies would manufactor more in the US, but to do so now puts you at a competitive disadvantage. Consumers have and will always have the power to dictate the market.

    • @nathanhth
      @nathanhth 8 років тому +1

      Renegade Zonkey yep. We would have to collectively be willing to spend more on products. Voting with your dollar and being a responsible consumers. The is the only way a free market thrives is when individuals are responsible. Also we don't need to consume a bunch of shitty/cheap manufactured items all the time. Spend more money on hand crafted high quality items less often…..the idea that we need to buy things all the time is nonsense and just irresponsible.

      KiloByte69 Nope just make it extremely easy to get work visas but be really strict on maintaining them. The illegal aliens that work in agriculture and construction are a very valuable part of our society wether we want to admit it or not. So we should work with it not against it. They are also much more of a value than assholes on welfare and unemployment. Lets just trade the unemployed and welfare for those illegals….that was a joke.

    If farming is a $50 billion business in the central valley... then why are growers only paying "less than minimum wage"? Maybe this is the reason why farm jobs are no longer "american" jobs... because growers have a steady supply of low wage workers to keep the wages depressed... I know lots of low income americans who would work the job... but they would want to paid a living wage... not the slave wages...

    • @michaelsheridan215
      @michaelsheridan215 10 років тому +6

      correct. they talk about the 'job myth' at the beginning of the video. you know what the real myth is? That "people who own farms are barely making it". Pfft. That is what they want you to believe. Farm owners are LOADED. Look at their home(s) and cars and then look how their workers live, and it should help set the picture. As an employer, farm owners are some of the worst in the country. Growing up I used to work on a farm that is in my mother's family. They treated me totally different from my hispanic co-workers. They treated them like slaves. I quit.
      The illegals are not the biggest part of the problem. The farmers who hire illegals are the ones driving this problem.

      Just say it. white and black people hate this kind of work.
      Hispanics, especially illegals, are worth 1.5x than any other ethnicity when it comes to hard labor...
      Mexican illegals usually live in poverty in Mexico so they can't afford to come to America legally.
      They just want a better life.
      Taxes are so damn high they wouldn't be able to sustain themselves if they payed them, they're usually living paycheck to paycheck (especially with ones with kids).
      Americans think so negatively about them saying that they are taking their jobs.
      They aren't taking your jobs... they are literatly scraping the bottom of the barrel. At least people that work in fastfood work indoors.

    I'm full Mexican, and was born here in the United States. I haven't had many boyfriends. only two real long term relationships. one with a white man and and another with my current boyfriend who's Mexican and was born there. the reason it didn't work out with my ex is because he wouldn't work. we even went long distance for a while because he went to go live with his mom instead of staying here with me and getting a job. he always said he couldn't find anything. and when he did it didn't last long because he was lazy. my current boyfriend has way more hurdles in his way. he came here where he knows not a single soul and he doesn't even speak English yet considering he recently got here. and he is so hard working. he works 6 days a week almost all day. he's got a job getting paid a little over 1,000 a week. so what was the other guys excuse? this is just my personal experience. and it's not to say white guys don't work as hard. or any other race. because my boyfriend works with some really hard working men of all races. I'm just saying that I've seen an example to prove that these people are not taking anyone's job. these people work hard to support their family's back home. and honestly, out of all the immigrants I've talked to. 80 percent really don't even like it here. they miss being back home but they tough it out for the ones they love. yes some come illegally. but if your family is starving, your child sick, and you just want better for your family... wouldn't you go wherever you had to in order to help your family? if not... then that says alot about the kind of person you are...selfish.

    So, yes, certainly as it exists now American's by and large wouldn't want to work those jobs, but the question I have is: was the pay low and then immigrant labor came to accept the jobs no one wanted, or did immigrant labor drive the pay lower because they were willing to accept less money, thus making it less desirable to citizens? It certainly hasn't always been a job done by migrant immigrants or those here illegally.

    we will still waiting that president that can touch his heart . Americans talk about Christiasm but the reality is that they don't follow the words of Jesus so they are hypocrisy. Don't go to church and pray , and after that be a people to hade each brother.

    Oh, come on... You KNOW 90% of the Americans AREN'T going to do this kind of work at minimum wage... You can't even get most of that number to work in retail or fast food... Not for very long, anyway!

  • @DavidKendallGoogle
    @DavidKendallGoogle 8 років тому +10

    remove the "about 1 million illegal farm workers" and you will have a gap in an industry that will be filled by LEGAL US Citizens. Their race is inconsequential to the argument that the wage will have to go up if there is a demand. High school economics would have taught you about the law of supply and demand.

      +David Kendall There is simply no way that Americans will take 1 million brutal farming jobs at minimum wage.
      The farms pay the illegals about 9 dollars an hour. If they are all deported, it will raise to minimum wage, which in most of those places, is 15 dollars an hour..
      One way or another, they will have to resort to trading, and that food comes to Mexico.
      AND EVEN IF IT'S POSSIBLE, it is not an American job. No one in the south is willing to do farmwork anymore. Maybe in Wyoming, or North Dakota, but not in Arizona, or Texas.

      your dumb ass.. I wouldn't even do this job if they paid me $20 dollars a hour.. It is difficult to work in the hot ass sun. all day picking grapes. and walking all day.and your back starting to hurt. every damm day doing this shit sucks.. supply and demand my ass you idiot

    • @DavidKendallGoogle

      Frank Martinez You replied to criticize me, calling me an idiot and a dumb ass with an argument the since you wouldn't do the work for $20 dollars an hour, every other one of the 350 million Americans wouldn't do the work.
      Think about that and consider the possibility that you're not intelligent enough to hold discourse with me.

      T- Money Salis do you realize how far is Michigan? and how small it is compared to Cali and Texas. here in Texas Hispanics dominate these jobs, work harder and for less money. how good is that for this country.

      Sam Aka Vlogs Well yes I do but we have farms here to... Blueberry fields, Apple orchards,Grape fields too... And to honest the jobs you are referring to many years ago black ppl an white ppl perform these jobs... And believe me if all the Mexicans left.. Those jobs will still get done... And please don't think World will stop turning if the immigrants will be deported.. Personally I hope it doesn't happen... But don't be surprised.

    I've worked as a diesel mechanic for the past 16 years in the same shop. In the past 4 years the new generation of American new hires are absolutely worthless. They want workmans comp whenever they get a scratch and have zero work ethic. It is hard hot dirty work but there is the opportunity to make 80k a year. The new hires never last. It's simply to much like work.

      Well I love learning about engineering, especially about cars. I’ve fixed my 20 year old ford truck multiple times, but it’s a gasoline v6.
      So i don’t know about diesels. I’m 19 btw, and I’ve been helping my parents pay bills since I was 17. AND i still graduated. Maybe because I’m from Mexican heritage?
      If I may ask, where are you from?

      Everywhere, I'm only 21 but I never had anything for granted. I could not endorse in University soo I started working, after 1.5 years I'm already on permanent contract (takes 2+ years to get), what have I did? I never missed a day, I never whined about my back, my elbow, anything.
      BTW, even older people to that, if they get the chance to get a paid leave, they will get it right before vacations start.
