Japan has a long history of amazing woodworking with 1200 year old buildings still standing. It's beautiful and I want the country to have that back. This may be the only sustainable way to do it. Go Japan I'll be visiting some day.

When did cutting down far more trees, become a meme for sustainability? How about hempblockaustralia.com/ instead? Which uses a little steel reinforced concrete.... With the bulk of the mass coming from far "faster growing hemp shiv" and a little hydraulic lime (btw there are bio grown version substitutes for the lime and the cement in the concrete being developed).... Trees just do not grow fast enough, to be a long term solution....
There are many, much taller CLT structures around the world, including a seven-story building in chilly Minnesota, a 10-story structure in Melbourne and a 24-story structure (!!) in Vienna, Austria. That last one is 84 meters high. I think Japanese engineers won't be long in sorting out whatever is holding them back from building beyond a mere three stories.

Apparently, you can not see the forest from the trees.... this story was just one more demonstration of Japan's unique ability to take technology to the next level in terms of "quality"... like it has done in many industries... For example Google Toyota.... it was "not" about claims for being 1st at doing it with all its original flaws.... SMH.... FWIW they mentioned that the basic CLT techniques, came from forest rich America and a small part of Europe that, still have forests....

And Japan wooden works is entirely come from abroad, ancient is from China modern is from western world. CLT technology is invent ed is Europe and Japan just learning, just like they copying European using CLT to build skyscraper.

Using this material also captures more carbon than using concrete as more trees are harvested and replanted in managed forest plantations.

Cable runs/conduits are pre-built into the slab in the factory.
