- Baker Mayfield threw only four incompletions in Los Angeles Rams 51-14 win over the Denver Broncos. Baker also threw for two touchdowns and had no interceptions or sacks. Hackett getting fired is good news. His Reign of Error is over, and not a moment too soon. Now, they need to get past being cute and creative in trying to find a diamond in the rough as their next head coach. Find the right person, and stop getting fooled by the hype of these young coordinators who clearly are not ready or else just not capable of being The Man.
Just a couple weeks ago Russ had like 2 or 3 TDs - he was starting to look good... then he got hurt.
He's a long term keeper - people need to stop questioning that and find a coach who knows what to do with Russ.

And Baker Baked a full course meal! 😄 He led that team with confidence playing to backup receivers, some new never played before. Akers wanted to be traded earlier in the season, but he & Baker have really connected & Baker projects those precise short & long throws down the field he loves. He gave them all confidence, just as McVay gave him confidence. They all were great feeding off of the positive vibes. McVay & his coaches utilize players best assets 👍, rather than just planning plays & runs (like Brown's Stefanski did 😩).
The Defense intercepted the ball at least 3x, and even made a touchdown!!! 👏
The kicker didn't miss one kick. 👏
This was a TEAM WIN, comprised of mostly backup backups (or guys thought to have no potential), with most of the starters out for the season. All the guys were great, & many different targets (Baker's forte). Wish Baker could stay there, get back #6; he & McVay are magic together like Baker & Riley were (& Sean Payton & Drew Brees). 🙄
Also, can't believe Baker's OU college coach/mentor, Lincoln Riley, brought his whole family to watch the game on Christmas Day to support Baker (Baker's family wasn't there, including his wife). Riley is HC @USC now w/3rd QB Heisman winner. He & McVay talked in the locker room (they are so much alike)! 👏🏈What a game!!! 😄

Skip is spot on - Baker and McVay have similar natures and are opposite sides of the same coin - a dynasty is in the works if they keep him as the starter next year, and move Stafford to backup, which is wisest given he's at the end of his career and injury prone, but still able to lead a team in the postseason if Baker got injured.
Having McVay and Stafford coaching him will take Mayfield to the next level, which I think opens doors for Stafford to become a coach down the road.

I will say this.....Baker Mayfield's time with the Rams has probably saved his career. We already have Stafford, so he won't be our QB1, but he sure has made the case for why he should be SOMEONE'S QB1. He's really been fun to watch in a season that hasn't been very enjoyable at all for us Rams fans.
Defense was not going to win for Wilson. They do not want Wilson there, so they decided not to play.
I don't understand this opinion for many levels.
Firstly is that almost every single NFL player is insanely competitive, you have to be to be at their level, thinking they would willingly lose is silly.
Secondly Wilson has a guaranteed contract and with how he has played this season nobody is going to be willing to pick it up so the Broncos are stuck with him, the players know this
Finally you really think people whos livelihood depends on their performance would willingly get embarrassed like that on prime-time Christmas day? A lot of defenders value went down thanks to that game.

Benching russell's the last thing the team needs:
He's got the tools - he can move, which he showed yesterday. He has the big arm.
What Russ needs is more time with this receiver corps - so sitting russ for some meaningless games the next few weeks isn't going to help (unless you have his replacement ready to go... and you are not replacing $45 m to $50 million per year).
You should want Russ to get MORE reps - get more comfortable with this offense and these players so you can end the year on a positive note and build for next year.
Shannon is understandably frustrated - but Russ has also led wins this year vs. the Niners (that Niner team that people are acting like is an elite all time defense.).... Yes THAT Niner team with Nick Bosa who Russ juked out of his socks and made plays on to win that game.

Sean Payton may be perfect.. Get in an ESTABLISHED coach who knows what to do with a shorter Hall of Fame talent (Drew Brees)....
Russ has been to more Super Bowls than Drew Brees. And Russ outplayed Brady in that 2014 SUper Bowl for most of that game (1 iNT vs. 2 ints for Brady).
This similar to what happened after Russ took his first big contract in Seattle.. the team was terrible.. now he’s older and has an even bigger contract and it’s even worse 😳🥸
As a non Baker fan, I’ll give him his props. He played his best game of his season. He made some great throws and was efficient and slinging it. This is the Baker that y’all want. I think it is however more of an indictment on the Broncos as a whole than a positive for Baker. Ironic the highest and lowest QBR’s of the week were from the same game. Russ has to come back strong next year or he’s finished as a starter
Mcvay and Baker are a good match. Baker would be wise to stay with the Rams. Hopefully Mcvay stays too.

the game was the epitome of how playcalling and offensive coaching really affects quarterback play. hackett still hasn't found a gameplan to overcome russ's problems in post snap reads leading to you seeing him being indecisive in the pocket in most plays, while mcvay put in simple short reads and no huddle plays to start baker's first game, and deliberately schemed for TE plays in this one facing the denver secondary. the carolina mention was also on point; wilks now putting darnold in a position to best feature his strengths and limit the difficult things he needs to do.

Yeah, this is about that coaching staff and Russ, cause I cannot with a sane mind believe that Russ is actually this bad and he was “hidden” in Seattle no, he’s been doing things this year that are so dumb it’s like he’s never played football. Against the Chiefs he was actually playing like The Russell Wilson we know and of course he got a concussion. I swear if he looks like this next year too then they have to move him if they want properly rebuild. Baker played really well tho so I like that, with that o-line playing better and the running game working, he looked good. That’s 2 outta the 3 games where he looked 1000 times better then with the panthers.
I’ve never liked the Broncos, but this was a painful embarrassment to the whole team and staff!

Cause Geno was looked at as a scrub before this year. Russ was really a product of the system.
A system that had a running game and receivers that didn’t have the ball bounce off their face masks. Russ has been horrible but all Denver had when he got there was a defense and a kicking game. No team would take anyone off of that offense for an upgrade. Throw in a coach who has no business in the nfl it’s a recipe for disaster
