I would love to see a video on the Inter-War period (1918-1939), because its pretty much the Prelude to WWII, and its a period not many people know about. Theres many things we can learn, such as the rise of the Third Reich, the conflicts in eastern Europe, the Roaring 20s, the Great Depression, the growth of the Japanese Empire, and so much things. As for this video, I loved it! I learned more things that I didnt know before, and to have it on Veterans Day makes it better! Thanks for the great content, Ruddy, keep up the good work!
Not to forget the tremendous failure of French politics... Even after their ungodly sanctions against Germany in the treaty of versaille; they genuinely couldn't get their shit together and nazi Germany walked through them in the second world war!
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields." In Flanders Fields By Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae (November 30, 1872 - January 28, 1918)
"Politicians who took us to war should have been given the guns and told to settle their differences themselves, instead of organizing nothing better than legalized mass murder." - Harry Patch
Really nice overview, my only complaint being that the eastern front was barely mentioned, feels a bit too British focused to be about the world war as a whole as the title suggests. Cheers from Sweden! Ps. The description (as of writing this comment) talks about “when America went to war with itself”, seems like it belongs to another video, fyi.
For my opinion, Germany should not be held solely responsible for everything even paying for the damages after WWI. There were also other countries involved [in the war] but the victorious countries insisted to put the blame on the Germans which created a chain reaction later on to create WWII many years after.
Yeah, in fact, the one who should have gotten most of the blame should be Austria-Hungary for overreacting to invading Serbia, Because the Serbian government had no part in the assassination. And even if they did, they should have made a case to the other world powers that their government is just carrying out justice for the murder of their prince, And maybe, the other powers would have understood and maybe back Austria-Hungary in defeating the Serbian government, because think about it?, Imagine if it was the Royal family of the UK or the Tsar of Russia who was assassinated instead of the prince of Austria-Hungary, would you stay silent?
nice vid, but it really bothers me that at 4:08 the frenchies have what looks like ww2 french uniforms, and the germans have blue uniforms, which were used by the french
Happy veterans day everyone. I have a story to share: My father and I took my Vietnam War veteran grandfather to Washington D.C. a few years ago for the first time for him to see the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. He got drafted in the late 1960s and he got injured by shrapnel from a land mine (in addition to getting shot), so he got sent home and received a Purple Heart. However, 6 of his buddies didn't make it back home, so before the trip he made a list of all of their names and where they were located on the wall. As he found each on the wall, he got very emotional knowing that he managed to come home (though injured), get married, have 3 sons, and live another 50 years, but 6 of his friends didn't.
Fun fact about the pandemic: American Samoa is the only inhabited place on earth with no deaths from the 1918 Spanish flu. They closed their borders around when the disease reached New Zealand and didn’t reopen them until 1920
@@JohnDRuddyMannyMan Understood also ( sayings this with respect ) you might also mention how the popular media boosted the war effort and( an the allied side ) made heroes of those Generals in the post war years

You forgot to mention the Chinese labor force in WW1. Also since you mentioned Japan, you should’ve mentioned how the Treaty of Versailles allow Japan to take Tsingtao, which lead to the May 4th Movement, which also gave birth & rise to the Chinese communist party in the long run.
9:03 Actually it turns out that the ship was transporting war materials to Britain and was thus a legitimate target so the attack didn't violate the laws of war.
I think these videos (at least for 16:9 presentation) would have been better off with black pillarboxes instead of white ones at the sides. As is, the thin black bars at the top and bottom of the frame are quite prominent.
Unfortunately this was a formatting issue with limited hardware at the moment. I’m working in a very limited space studio and my workplace screen is tiny, and frustratingly I missed the sliver of black along the edge.

Same here, I don’t know enough about it as much as I do for ww1 and ww2. It feels long over due.
Weirdly enough the Sino-Japanese War 2 happen on Interwar period despite being part of the theater of WW2
Time ghosts between 2 wars series is a good recommendation for this.

Hey John, Your drawing is amazing.
Thanks for coming to my school today!
Best animated ww1 history by John. D Ruddy with better detail.
Superbly done. The conclusion was very touching
This is a very educational video,

yeah and in the end it as a austrian man or men who caused both WW1 and ww2 yet germany gets all the blame
It’s sad that this guys is so heartwarming and caring yet really bad people still calm him stupid. I’ve seen it before. Keep going!
good timing man
I have a ww1 history test tomorrow so this should be helpful!

Hey Ruddy, can you cover the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71? It's a fascinating subject
I thought it started when some guy named Archie Duke shot an ostrich because he was hungry
Happy Armistice Day and Veterans Day let the sacrifices of those who fought may never be forgot.
Learning about wars makes me incredibly sad. I just had a whole session where I cried for 3 minutes. War is the worst thing humanity as ever created.
