The video is good. But two things I now notice (I have watched this video before). One; you didn't fully clean the cover before fitting the gasket. Two; you didn't use oil resistant sealant. I realized this after a couple of months later when I found oil getting to my spark plugs! But you had the right idea, I appreciate the video!
Thanks for the video bro, I watched it because I’m working on my 2011 lancer gts. The difference I saw was the your valve cover has 18 bolts and mine has 16 but I followed the same pattern and I will drive it tomorrow so the sealant dries and let you know if the leaks came back 👍
2008 Lancer, Canada. A mechanic found a "dead bird" under the hood of my friend Lancer. The car was losing power, up and down speeds, but not stalling as much. Once the dead bird removed, the second day of driving around was much better, but the not the first day after. Anyways, i cleaned the "PCV valve" and the EGR valve. on the second. The car runs like new.
Only put rtv where they tell you to put. In my 1.6 4a92 it is just where the front cover meet the engine. It is to fill the small seam that the black gasket can't reach. It doesn't need to be right around the cover and for a gasket maker to do a job it suppose to be hand tighten which is mostly by not using a power handle and just using wrist handle until start oozes out. Wait for hour for it to take shape then torque it down. Also using a wire brush to clean the surface is a bad idea most of time the gasket would stain the surface. Just use contact cleaner on a microfiber cloth and wipe clean
Great Video. I contemplated recording my replacement. I did not have the manufacturer torque values but wish I did (although my new gasket hasn't shown signs of leaking so I think I'm fine). I've had rough idling on the 2008 Lancer which was cause by a dirty throttle body (Carb cleaner and sea foam). However, I have been trying to find the service manual for this car without any luck. Could you share your service manual? I believe I have a head gasket issue now (183,000 miles) and am looking into resources for that. I would be recording and sharing this replacement project.
Really hope u see this message. Possibly help me out. Have the same car u have in video. Don’t have a leak. The video didn’t go enough in too Valves I have a valve knocking it’s not bad but it’s there and needs to be fixed
In case someone is newbie and don't know much, pay attention that torque spec is in inch pounds and not ft pounds. I did not pay attention and set my wrench to 27 ft pound and snapped the bolt like an idiot... Now I need a new bolt before finishing this otherwise simple job
Thanks for this. Gives me some confidence to try it on my own now. Just 2 questions: 1. Looking back, did you really need to remove the PCV valve from the valve cover? Doesn't seem so to me as it will just come off with the cover. 2. Did you apply RTV to only the head surface, or to the valve cover as well (meaning did only 1 side or both sides of the gasket had RTV)? Thanks again.
PCV valve yea probably didn't need too come off but it was my first time doing it and was just being thorough. and RTV was only to one side, dont think you need that much. thanks
You need to buy Three Bond 1217G/H sealant. This sealant is the proper sealant for the job. Also you just seat the gasket on grooves on the edge of the Valve Cover no need to seal any of that. You put a dab of sealant between the Timing Chain Case Assembly and the Cylinder Head Assembly. A dab on each edge (2 locations) from which they meet together
I work as a mechanic and I have a 2011 model Lancer GLS and those MIVEC engines are strong little monsters but the reason why your valve cover casket is leaking is probably because you might of raced the car or launch the car really hard. Remember your car was designed to be a family car. It’s not an EVO. The problem with hammering your car is that you are pushing parts far beyond what they were designed to do
Also I would use a Three Bond Sealant 1217 series and not Permatex. Also you didn't show HOW you put the Valve Cover Gasket on the Valve Cover. Also you didn't mention how oil can get into the Spark Plug Well Holes over time if you do not change your Valve Cover Gasket over time (this happened to my lancer)

These lancer only need a blob where the front timing chain cover meet the engine no where else.
For real thanks man, I don't know much about cars but this really helps.
Thank you Daniel. Easy to follow video. Gonna finish mine today.
Hey thanks for this video. I am from the Philippines and I drive the same car with the same engine. Gonna check for leaks around the top cover now. :)
Excelent job man! Thanks for all the explaining

Thank you so much. There's so few vids about the Lancer, however, they're more popular in Asia.
Thanks for the post man. Big help.
no problem bro just trying to help.

just in time because I have to change it also, 2009 2.0 engine. thanks bro.
Mazin Jabarin no problem !
What’s up man. Sorry to bother u
I have this lancer too.
Have a lifter know knocking there’s no videos how to tune it
Thanks for uploading this
Great post just what I needed 👍👍
You are using Permatex RTV which is why it is causing your leak to happen over time. Use Three Bond 1217G/H. Get it at the Subaru dealership.

p00patrat0r check out alldatadiy website. They have an online manual for the Lancer. Gotta pay though

mmc-manuals.ru/manuals/lancer_x/maintenance/Lancer_X_2007_Service_Manual/GR00003200-11B.pdf
whyd you disconnect the positive instead of the negative tho.
Top video mate 👊

great video my lancer got zero leaks now and if anyone knows where the solenoid purge valve location is on 08 lancer please let me know thanks

It doesn't hurt to replace the PCV Valve with a 200k vechicle on it. It is only a few dollars at NAPA.
Great video, could you share the mantenance manual with us?
I noticed you have some type of program that's gives you detailed instructions. How can I get the program myself?
I payed for the Manual myself on eBay.
Good stuff, thanks!
Good job
I have a 2017, same engine though. THX
no problem
Thank you!!
Thanks Boss
🙏🏻
You didn't need to take the pcv valve off
It's a good idea to replace it. I took it off and it looked pretty bad, it straight up had a hole
The PCV Valve Hose DOES need to be removed to get to the Hard Plastic Valve Cover

Are mivec engines usually loud?
You are right which is why my Spark Plug Oil Wells have oil in it from years or pushing it a little to hard xD
MIVEC Engine are really good and easy to tune for Timing. Alot of it is electronically and computer controlled. Much like the Honda VTEC Engines.
@@AzraelPercussionNEO when you say easy to tune for timing what do you mean? I have a 09 lancer that might be having a no start due to timing.
There’s no video of this car and value tune up
Big help thx

Hi, do you know where is the EGR located? Thanks
ua-cam.com/video/J3TeXuBqWJI/v-deo.html
Where did you get the specs/mechanics manual from?
I got mine from piratesbay
Buy it on eBay. It is around $20 bucks.
Does timing chain come off?
No. You can leave the Timing Chain and its Assembly alone.
Hey bro what are the torque specs for the spark plugs?
18
260 foot pounds of torque (impact em till they boutta snap)
@@michaelregalia2539 cool try it first on ur car then let me know how it goes. 😉
@@chrisr.986 Increased compression ratio, runnin on that 12.5:1
how many mileage ?
at the time it had 200,000
If the Valve Cover Gasket on the Valve Cover is hard and brittle it is time to replace!!!
Did you drain the oil and coolant before starting ?
You don't need to do that.
A lifter is knocking it’s not bad yet
What does the lifter noise mean? I've got that ticking sound
@@oof578 same

Bro your location?
