    Ay, carumba, Ay carumba! Records are a nice momento, but holy shit what an experience you lived! I am excited just hearing your yarn! I'm jealously basking in the glory of your Sun Ra encounter. Love when you shine down on us, Teddy - great session. Mike.

    Wow man, your Sun Ra stories are absolutely amazing, and I can't believe some of those records that you actually bought the way they were meant to be bought: From the band, at the show. I didn't get heavily into Sun Ra until long after he returned to his home planet, and I wait as patiently as I can for reissues of some of that stuff--particularly since those late 70s ones are some of the hardest ones to find! Incredible, I'm blown away.

    • @eatsleepvinyl
      @eatsleepvinyl  6 років тому

      Hey man, yeah that was some crazy shit. At the time as it all unfolded, it seemed like it was supposed to happen as it was. Now I can hardly believe it all went down the way it did...insane. I forgot to mention that when Sun Ra was being driven to the 'In-Store' and pulling up in someone's Caddy, he was in the passenger's seat dry shaving with a Bic disposable razor!!!! As you've come to learn, Sun Ra should be classified as a 'Schedule-1 Narcotic.' That dude is as addictive as anything out there. Thanks for hangin' and dropping a line - Teddy

    Mic Drop. Wow. That was something. What a treat to watch Teddy. Thank you for sharing. Even more special because of the incredible stories and personal connection to the of course very special records. Experiences like that are worth more than any record. Great photo you got. So cool that you can say you took it.
    Thank you so much for sharing. And great to see you again as always. Hope you are well.

      Hey Kieran!! Thanks man. As far as the 2-weeks Sun Ra was around, file it under 'Pinch Me'...sometimes it feels like a dream. I'll tell you, luck, karma, whatever, paid me a visit and put in the right place at the right time, and I'm VERY happy to have these artifacts as a reminder of how freaking cool it really was and that I'm still around to share with folks like yourself who will understand!! First of a big thanx for doing this. So enjoyable for so many people. As I said before, it’s like Christmas every time you videos pop up! I do agree with you about value but sitting down and residing in what way to go with the “question” I did desire that I wanted to see records that you do not see every day and my hope for the contest (like always in life) was to get hooked to new music that I never heard of. By asking for “rare and valuable” records I think that I will lure out the things that you don’t see every day. And seeing the videos up to now, my listening list has increased a lot. That Love Supreme is just a piece of art. Should be in a museum and tales and movies should be made about that prestige copy! Just fantastic. I guess that the sun Ra is hard to get in that condition. The silver album covers is always beat on records. That story... Amazing. Just wow! And they just keep coming.... Jaw dropped. Thanx a bunch for doing this Teddy. Mission is also accomplished. I acutely get vibes from “back in the VC hay-day” when the responses are coming in. Strange kind of nostalgic trip =)

      Hey Linda, Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed! The price issue bothers me quite a bit as capitalism has dug it's dirty claws into the tender emotions and psyche of another collector's genre. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but it sucks none the less. I hope all is well with you. Thanks for hanging out a bit - Teddy

    Throughout the course of this video my jaw dropped slowly lower and lower, around the point of Lanquiditiy I noticed this and pushed my jaw back up. It immediately dropped to the bottom with the stuff showed after that. Absolutely amazing, I am about to start digging into Sun Ra's catalogue properly and investigating with a bit of purpose, I recently picked up a handful of reissues and have seemingly caught the Sun Ra bug, I have a video filmed already in the can which I may put up in the coming days documenting my initial forays and thoughts, I am well aware there's a lot ahead of me to dig into.

    Amazing Sun Ra stories, Teddy! I loved what you said about being taught to respect books. I'm in total agreement to respect the things you have and show them appreciation.You can definitely see the care and appreciation you have and show with your collection and the enjoyment it has brought you. It is one of the main reason why I think you and your channel are the cream of the crop in regards to record collecting. I'm a Sun Ra novice but seeing your collection and hearing your stories is opening the door for me. Thanks for that. I'm sure you have a closet full more of stories from when you worked in that record store you mentioned and all of your other experiences over the years. Maybe you'll share more of them in future videos. Great contest entry!

    • @eatsleepvinyl
      @eatsleepvinyl  6 років тому

      Thanks a ton for your thoughtful comment!!! My parents were pretty cool in that regard and one of many life lessons they imparted along the way. Another thing they were big on was the idea of sharing....and that sits at the core of these video's (not just me, but others as well) Sun Ra's output is so vast and varied that's improbable to wrap your arms around the entirety. But just dive in and you'll find your way around organically. Have a good one - Teddy

    Good gracious... I knew when I saw your video on my feed that it was going to be good, but man, the RA stories are pure magic. I am always happy to watch your videos and see the great music you share. But what had me hit subscribe way back when is your ability to tell a good story, you're gifted in that area. And this video is no exception. I mean you got to hobnob with Sun Ra, now THAT is cool! I know Bruce (Fear No Arts) is going to dig this if he hasn't seen it already, he's a massive fan of Sun Ra. I don't purposefully seek out much these days, but that was one (still sealed) i was not going to denied if it existed...and it did!!!. Thanks for sharing the fun stories Teddy--the physical records are just souvenirs we pick up along the way.... I suggest taking a transcript of this video, printing it out, and keeping it with the Sun Ra records so that the next generation of "vinyl protectors" get an equally impressive back story to go with. (And I agree, "value" is extremely relative and subjective. And we must all remember that "rarity" does not equate to "value.")

      I spent a lot of time (and $$) in Pennylane so that's probably it! Also Milton's, Grand Emporium and London's while it was open. Too much time in The Hurricane when the Bon Ton band ruled Westport. Good times, miss em. Peace!

    With the high prices of Sun Ra albums, I've resorted to (gasp!) downloading. Far from ideal, but it's all about the music anyway right? I did recently find one grail: Bud Shank and Three Trombones on 10 inch Pacific Jazz.

      Hey Eddie, Indeed it's ALL about the music. It's quite discouraging at times the way vinyl pricing has unfolded. I dig Pacific Jazz and have been getting back into some early pianoless Gerry Mulligan groups. That Bud Shank sounds really cool. I'm going to look into that one. Congrats on your score!!! - Teddy

    I have a number of rare and valuable records but I've only just uploaded an intro video to the VC so am not sure I should enter the contest, but am enjoying the videos....

      Hi David, I did get it and responded to you twice. You don’t get notified when PM’s come through. You have to go to your channel...then go to ‘Creator Studio’ (blue button upper right/ish...then hit ‘Community’ (on the left side panel) ....then opens ‘Messages’ and they should be sitting there
